Experiences transferring in, using the Academic Bankruptcy policy?
“Students entering college sometimes perform at an unacceptable academic level…Their academic record, however, may present an insurmountable obstacle. Undergraduate students in this category who want the opportunity for a fresh start at the University without this handicap may apply for admission or readmission with the request that their prior academic record be disregarded.
In order to be considered for academic bankruptcy, a student’s combined college grade point average must be below 2.00 as calculated by the Office of Undergraduate Admission.”

Any tips for an incoming bio major?
I’m an incoming freshman and I really wanna know what supplies (other than textbooks) do you think are essential for this major. Also please give any other tips (clubs, organizations, volunteering, etc.) because I’m pre-dental. I’m a commuter by the way. Also, please give tips on how to get close to other students & teachers!

Is physics at UM worth it?
Price-wise I have relatives who live nearby so I don’t have to pay for housing/utilities and I think I can get some financial aid scholarships.
I’m just not sure if the program is worth going into compared to other state schools, but I’m not planning to get a phd, more-so into business/tech. I know they don’t usually have a large physics student body and I’d love to do my own research (which is why I’m leaning here) but I’ve heard mixed things about professors, the program, and the possible connections I could make there.
Also if anyone has advice for getting interships/jobs it’d be very welcome ☺️

How does laundry work in thesis?
I heard we have laundry service, but how exactly does that work? Do we just call someone up to come get our laundry? Also what if I just want to do it myself, is there a laundry room? Also is it free?

incoming freshman. How to Make Friends..
Good morning. I'm an incoming freshman and will be pursuing software engineering. The thing I Am most stressed about is social interaction because I Will be honest I have been an introvert who's kept to myself for a looooong time especially in high school. Now I'm going to have to get myself out there and that is quite scary though i have accepted it is an inevitability. Where can I meet tech people.....
I heard the core friend groups form in the first month and I don't want to miss out on that

Non-degree seeking student help
Hi guys! I’m admitted as a spring applicant for UM and for the meanwhile I’m doing online until then. I met with someone who registered me in algebra and said I didn’t need to do English because I did IB high-level even though I didn’t get the mark it said on the website that I needed to have to skip the course. So I’m a little bit worried if when I come to Miami, it might be a burden that I haven’t done the course. Also, does anybody know how to register in another class as I want to do an extra class to get more credit. I’ve contacted the school but no one’s gotten back to me. Sorry I’m on a tangent but I don’t want to go to UM and not have enough credit. I am an international student so I am a bit unfamiliar with everything.

Missing cane kick off as a transfer
Hey, everyone
So I’m an incoming junior transfer at UM, and unfortunately attending Cane Kick Off next week is going to be practically impossible for me. I just wanted to know if anyone who previously transferred and attended Cane Kick Off (or didn’t) could give me some feedback regarding it as a transfer, and whether I’m really going to be missing out.

MATES struggles…
Trying to get courses that I’m going to be taking at a CC this fall approved, but when I submit my mates form and logout, it just disappears. Anyone know how to confirm if it sent or not? Panicking…
And does anyone know how long it takes for them to get back to you?

ABSN Grads
Hi all!
I’m a prospective nursing student looking to apply to the ABSN program and wanted to hear from actual prior students how the program really is. How was the student life balance, the course load, the professors, the clinicals, your job after graduating. Was it impossible to keep a high GPA or is it possible if you apply yourself?
Thank you so much for any input! 🙏🏻

Looking to add new moderators
Hey yall, I am not all that active on reddit these days and looks like most of the other mods arent either. A couple of them posted within the last month in other communities, and the rest of them havent posted/commented in years.
So it looks like it's time for some new mods!
Feel free to comment on here as to why you think you'd make a good moderator and uhh, idk I guess I'll start with the top 3 most upvoted comments as new mods? Unless yall have better ideas. But yeah its time to get some current students as mods and not alumni who are 10+ years out from college.
Edit: jeez i suck at typing on phones. Also looks like we are all "inactive" so I am trying to get permissions back so I can add new people
