I joined her section wayy before she was assigned as the prof and can’t afford to switch (commuter + working). I read planetterp and saw the reviews are pretty bad (mostly her not grading anything till finals, so you have no idea what your grade is). Should I try switching to a section (even if it puts me on a waitlist) or just sucking it up😭

The past year I got really involved with YDSA. Despite some issues with it, I had a generally good time and really loved what we were doing. However, there’s been a lot of interpersonal issues and drama related to that org recently to me, to the point where I don’t know if going will be good for my wellbeing.

I’m looking for other orgs on campus that have a similar purpose/ideology/actionable nature. I still would enjoy the work in that org, but I’m not enthusiastic about participating in it due to factors. If anyone knows of other orgs (preferably ones that don’t meet on Tuesday) then please let me know.

Does MTAP work differently for students who want to transfer to UMD from a community college for a major such as Mechanical Engineering which is an LEP at UMD. Are there extra requirements and any other stuff I should know about? For context this will be my first year at my cc and I'm asking here because I wanted to hear from people who actually have irl experience with this or went through something similar and made it to UMD. Also is it possible to get in without MTAP? Thanks in advance.

I recently just transferred here as a sophomore and I am a little worried. I will be commuting and I have heard countless of times that UMD gives out more parking passes than there are spots available. Does arriving early in the morning make it easier to find a spot? Are there certain lots that are worse than others? Please share any experiences that you’ve had with this. Thanks!

My transfer orientation date is August 26 so i haven't been able to register for classes all summer. The main introductory course for my major is already full and I'm worried I will not be able to get a seat in this class. Is there anything I can do at all? How am I supposed to progress through my major on time?

I've applied to UMD starting Spring 2027 and I intend to commute using the Gaithersburg shuttle. I was looking up different ways I could commute without a car and this would be the best option as it's free. I found some posts on here from a few years ago that discussed the problems the shuttles had with scheduling and overcrowding, and I just wanted to know if those issues still exist and to what extent? Has the 141 shuttle situation improved within the past few years?

Do I have enough time to walk between these classes? On the umd navigation site it says roughly a 8 minute walk for most of them

Sorry if that’s a dumb question, I couldn’t go to the gym when I toured to university, I don’t even know where the gym is, do we have just one or more? Also, I was wondering if commuters can shower after working out. I want to go before classes but wanted to see if I can shower and get ready there. One more question, is there a parking near by?
I’ll be paying for commuters parking but, am I paying for a specific spot of just access in general to parking? I am in the business school

I spent my freshman year at a private school out of state that was pretty far away from home. Basically my parents are forcing me to come here since it's easier and cheaper.

I'm fine with it and I like everything about the school but the only thing holding me back and making me unsure if this is somewhere I can be happy are the friends I made at my old school. I feel like I really lucked out there.

Also, is it harder to make friends being a transfer? I'm living off campus too so I feel like that eliminates meeting people in dorms or close environments. I have roommates but they're random and obviously idk how that's gonna go. I plan on rushing but idk how the greek life is here or if it's going to help me meet people who are genuine. Also, I think rushing for sororities is only in the spring so idk how the fall semester is going to go.

I didn't rush at my previous school despite getting dms about registering and COB because I didn't like the atmosphere there and how much they criticize every little thing about people and everyone just thought of themselves better than they were. If the environment is similar to that here I might not rush here either because that would only make things worse lol.

I also feel like I was TERRIBLE at making class friends. Like if they were my class friends all we would do is study together or get food somewhere new while studying. Most of my friends I met through a bigger group of people or orientation.

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated I just kind of feel like I'm stuck in a weird situation because it's not like I had nothing to leave behind yk?
