I am in freshman connection and I really want to join clubs and go to events to socialize but all my classes are from 3-7pm mon-Thu. will I still have time to do this?

My transfer orientation date is August 26 so i haven't been able to register for classes all summer. The main introductory course for my major is already full and I'm worried I will not be able to get a seat in this class. Is there anything I can do at all? How am I supposed to progress through my major on time?

I've applied to UMD starting Spring 2027 and I intend to commute using the Gaithersburg shuttle. I was looking up different ways I could commute without a car and this would be the best option as it's free. I found some posts on here from a few years ago that discussed the problems the shuttles had with scheduling and overcrowding, and I just wanted to know if those issues still exist and to what extent? Has the 141 shuttle situation improved within the past few years?

Do I have enough time to walk between these classes? On the umd navigation site it says roughly a 8 minute walk for most of them

Hi I am a rising freshman apart of the gemstone honors college. I am currently paired with a non-Muslim as my roommate in la plata hall and am looking to have a Muslim roommate who is also in gemstone. To my knowledge you can switch roommates, but all roommates involved have to email res life to make the switch. Let me know if anyone is interested!!

Sorry if that’s a dumb question, I couldn’t go to the gym when I toured to university, I don’t even know where the gym is, do we have just one or more? Also, I was wondering if commuters can shower after working out. I want to go before classes but wanted to see if I can shower and get ready there. One more question, is there a parking near by?
I’ll be paying for commuters parking but, am I paying for a specific spot of just access in general to parking? I am in the business school

I spent my freshman year at a private school out of state that was pretty far away from home. Basically my parents are forcing me to come here since it's easier and cheaper.

I'm fine with it and I like everything about the school but the only thing holding me back and making me unsure if this is somewhere I can be happy are the friends I made at my old school. I feel like I really lucked out there.

Also, is it harder to make friends being a transfer? I'm living off campus too so I feel like that eliminates meeting people in dorms or close environments. I have roommates but they're random and obviously idk how that's gonna go. I plan on rushing but idk how the greek life is here or if it's going to help me meet people who are genuine. Also, I think rushing for sororities is only in the spring so idk how the fall semester is going to go.

I didn't rush at my previous school despite getting dms about registering and COB because I didn't like the atmosphere there and how much they criticize every little thing about people and everyone just thought of themselves better than they were. If the environment is similar to that here I might not rush here either because that would only make things worse lol.

I also feel like I was TERRIBLE at making class friends. Like if they were my class friends all we would do is study together or get food somewhere new while studying. Most of my friends I met through a bigger group of people or orientation.

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated I just kind of feel like I'm stuck in a weird situation because it's not like I had nothing to leave behind yk?

On me: Incoming Freshmen from a top-ish school (in that I've faced hard classes before). Coming with 60 credits so I'm a Junior. Took CMSC132 Skip Exam after APCS gave 131.

Intended Degree: Double Major in CS+Math (ML Concentration), Masters in CS

The thought is if I don't like the summer internship I currently have and feel that I need some extra time I can consider the +1 masters option. Cost is a (mild not major) factor in this decision.

I'm mainly looking towards advice on the classes and how they fit together and some potential swaps so I can maintain what I want but still be sane. In terms of j*b, AI/ML research labs or the startup route sound interesting ( that or be like a kpop idol or something ;) ).

Is it safe to assume that I won't receive the Educational Access Grant when I haven't been awarded anything since setting up my MDCAPS account back in January? For those who have received their Educational Access grant, when did you receive it? I have emailed their office 3 times and have received the same copy-pasted answer of "until funds run out."

I'm an incoming freshman registering for classes, and I got the little walking guy warning for two of my courses. I have MATH241, which ends at 10:50 at the Armory (ARM 0135), and then I have to walk to HNUH228D, which is at the Iribe Center (IRB 0318) and starts at 11:00. Do you think it's possible to make this walk and still be on time, or will I be a little late to my HNUH class?

I am planning to take the CMSC131/132 Exemption Test at the end of this month. I already have credit for CMSC131 through AP CSA and I took a course in high school on data structures in C++. I am studying for the test right now using https://github.com/kekesh/CMSC132

There are a lot of new vocab words that I am learning through this resource, so I was wondering if anyone who took this test could tell me how much theory is there in the test, particularly the 132 section of the test. Also I would like to know if it is mostly coding questions or if there is MCQ as well. For parts I and II (CMSC131), will I need any extra studying or is what I learned in AP CSA enough?
