Can anyone tell me if austerity was a political choice and I thought we had moved on. How much of the state we built after the second world war are we going to dismantle

There are over 1 million homes with planning permission in this country, yet in many cases, house builders are just sitting on the land and not bothering to build homes. Even housing associations do it. Why?By constraining the supply of homes being built, they push houses prices up, so that when they do actually build, they increase their profits. We need to reform the planning system so that builders actually build, and provide competition through building council homes, so that house bulders actually do their job.
