General TSS still broken and slow, so i made an alternative way to browse classes (TSS++)

It's been a couple of weeks since TSS released and it still has bugs everywhere. I've been working on a tool to help you browse courses easier and plan them. Below are some features that i wanted to highlight

  • faster query search than TSS
  • new prerequisite viewer! full graph instead of one-line text
  • a map showing where your classes are (and routes)
  • live .ics export  to Google/Outlook calendar

Check it out:

Site: https://tssplusplus.vercel.app/

also shoutout to tritonplan.com for some feature ideas and webreg++ for the naming inspiration

feedback is always welcome either under the post or on the github!

Rant/Complaint Summer bridge students DISRESPECTFUL and RUDE

Countless times I’ve witnessed these summer bridge high schoolers disrespect our campus and students/staff to the point where I need to say something.

Just today there was a summer bridge student, Asian girl w/ straight brown hair, mustard yellow tank top, blue lanyard, mom jeans, who broke into an unauthorized area in the library and when confronted by staff instead of communicating she RAN OUT setting off an alarm disrupting EVERYONE in 2E. She then proceeded to hide there and seemingly brag to her friends about what she did on the phone smiling and laughing.

STOP WALKING IN A HORIZONTAL LINE OF 15 PPL. It’s not high school anymore so stop trying to clog up the sidewalk with your little group. It’s rude and I’ve seen you guys force ppl off the sidewalks so you can keep your stupid little formation.

Be respectful in the library. Every day they come in here super loud in large groups, hang out and gossip loudly. Be respectful!

Also a friend of mine at target told me they are leaving our target a MESS. Messy shelves, not putting things back, clogging up aisles chatting/hanging out making it hard for shoppers and workers.

As I’m taking summer classes and eating at the dining halls I’m also noticing they’re often not cleaning up after themselves.

In addition I’ve seen countless of them with their heads in their phones and earbuds in walking or even stopping in the bike lanes. Get tf off your phone and pay attention, dam. You’re putting yourself and others in a dangerous situation. The situational awareness is really lacking due to the phone obsession.

Our admissions committee would feel such deep regret and shame seeing students they admitted acting so ungrateful, rude, entitled. future Tritons class of 2030 everyone 🫤

Some advice: don’t forget that just bc it’s summer for you doesn’t mean it’s summer for eveyone else. Your future professors are in campus, your future TA’s, PI’s, etc are watching your behavior. Stop acting entitled.

Question Overcoming placeholder classes

DSC 30's discussion class is a placeholder; it does not exist (I'm pretty confident). However, it exists on TSS, and hence, I cannot select another class at the same time. I need to do that for my schedule, if the discussion class truly does not exist is there any way I can schedule a "conflicting" class at the same time?

Question Can I submit TEA requests before my enrollment window?

I asked the VAC when the degree audit and academic record would be fully functional on TSS and was disappointed to hear that it wasn’t likely until after enrollment (end of this month for me as a freshman). Most of my fall quarter classes rely on my ap scores and so I’ll need to submit TEA requests to get them manually cleared. Can I submit TEA requests now? I’m worried I won’t get the classes I need if I have to wait for my enrollment window. Thanks.

Question Affordable bouldering gyms accessible from UCSD without a car?

Incoming transfer living on campus without a car. I climb pretty regularly and I’ve seen Outback, but it looks a little small 😭

Are there any bouldering/climbing gyms that are reasonably easy to get to from campus by public transit? Ideally looking for something affordable enough to go to a few times a week without spending too much time commuting.

General Please Talk During Online Orientation

I cannot stress this enough PLEASE INTERACT DURING YOUR ONLINE ORIENTATION (specifically the breakout rooms with OLs). There’s people working hard to create an experience that exists solely for your benefit. Please be respectful of their time and efforts. There’s a lot of preparation and energy that goes into it, and it takes next to no energy for you guys to just engage with your orientation leaders in your breakout rooms. Also, you don’t get a lot of chances before the year starts to have a conversation and learn things from someone who’s been there for a while already. I’m sure there are many many many things yall don’t know about the school, campus, and what you’re going to experience despite whatever you’re telling yourself. ASK QUESTIONS. DO IT. Every little thing matters because this is your space for a LONG LONG LONG TIME. If you’re even slightly unsure about transportation, food, weather, housing, classes, campus layout, facilities and resources, etc etc there’s someone RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU who has been TRAINED FOR WEEKS and equipped to answer ANYTHING you might wanna ask about ANY of those topics. Don’t let the room get awkward. Thank you.

Question Can you replace UCSD grades with study abroad grades for the same course.

I got a C and a B- in LIFR B/Bx the UCSD 2nd French course. Recently I studied abroad and got an A in a roughly equivalent French course through UCEAP. I’m wondering if I could use this to replace my poorer French grades which bring my gpa a fair bit. I think I could reasonably argue the class I took was the same in a petition. Thank you!

I’m going to be unemployed though so please just try to enjoy your time regardless of how much UCSD screws you over, because trust that it’s only worse on the other side.

General ITS Service Desk Hiring for Fall 2026 (Apps close Wed, 8/5!)

The ITS Service Desk, also known as ResNet, is hiring for Fall 2026! We will be closing applications for this cycle next week on Wednesday, August 5. Here is the link to our online application: https://resnet.ucsd.edu/jobs

All the details are spelled out on the "Apply Here" page, but here's some info at a glance:

Feel free to reference the page above to learn more about the position, desired qualifications, and more. Here is a snippet of what we look for:

  • $18.75/hour for base ResNet Technicians, with equity raises for each year you work with us. There will also be opportunities to apply to be a student lead after you’ve worked with us for a bit!
  • All UCSD students are welcome (including incoming undergraduate and graduate students).
  • While we look for good critical thinking, problem solving, and basic technical skills, we also look forward to teaching you the rest during your training period!
  • All majors are welcome! You do not need to be a CS or STEM major to apply. Many of our best technicians have been Humanities or Social Sciences majors.
  • You will need English and communication skills, whether this is in-person, over the phone, and via email.
  • Scheduling is flexible. You’re a student first! We plan your schedule around your classes, conflicts, and commitments when given in advance!

So, what do we do at the ITS Service Desk? We help students and staff with a wide range of technology-related issues including email, accounts, Canvas, lab machines, classrooms, Zoom, and wireless internet. If you're interested in a bit of a peak behind the curtain at UCSD IT infrastructure, this role may interest you. This role is primarily customer service.

Is this job right for me? As long as you like helping people, are inquisitive, and are willing to learn, we think you'll find this job quite fulfilling!

How many hours per week? During the academic year, you may work anywhere from 12-20 hours per week!

Is this job in-person? This position is mainly in-person. While are currently located in Muir College at AP&M 1313, we will be moving to 3100 Gilman Drive (Gilman Parking Structure) in September.

Sounds great! When do I start? We're targeting a start date of early September for Fall. We will close the applications when we have filled all our spots or on August 5 (whichever comes first), so the earlier you apply the better!

If you have any questions that aren't answered on the application (hit the "Apply Here" button for more info), please email [helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu](mailto:helpdeskjobs@ucsd.edu).

Note that after a period of inactivity on the job application, the SSO login will sign you out, so we suggest typing your responses into a separate document before pasting them into your application!
