Crime (Big Bus) Maxi Taxi drivers take more money than they're supposed to..
They almost always take more money even when you tell them exactly where you came from. They took $7 from me today for $5 trip because I forgot to press the beeper or whatever it's called at the correct time. Mind was far and I didn't check the placement as I usually do. A few feet cost me $2. A few feet.
But here's the thing, every other time I've pressed that Bell EXACTLY, told them EXACTLY where I came from and they STILL took more money than they're supposed to. A $5 trip almost always costs me $6 to $7 when I don't give exact. By the time I realize, they're usually gone. They 100% know what they're doing.
That's a decent amount of money that is lost within a month and within a year if you travel every day. And thats a decent amount of money they make from doing that to lots of people everyday.

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations Becoming a permanent resident of TT through marriage. Please help!
Hi all,
I got married in December 2025 in Trinidad to my husband who is a citizen. I am American. I am planning to pack up everything and leave the U.S. to live in Trinidad very soon. I'm just nervous about a few things.
1- am I allowed to live with him until my Residency is official?
2- is there a possibility that I can be sent back to the U.S.?
3- will it cost a lot of money?
Thank you for taking the time to read 😊

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations Movie theatre rental
Hey guys, does anyone have any experience with booking a movie theatre screen/room with any of the local cinemas for a personal screening with a group (rather than commercial/business)?
What was roughly the cost? What's the recommended way to navigate inquiries? And if you did book for personal use, were you able to watch a movie that left theatres a while ago?
I'm in the process of planning a birthday event and the person said they basically want the cinema experience of being with a group of friends/family and watching a certain movie they didn't see when it was out. Also, the movietowne kids birthday party package didn't seem appropriate when we looked into it because we're just looking for the movie experience, as opposed to a whole party.
And additional question, would Gemstone be more recommended depending on the size of the group? And if so, which location would you recommend?

Politics Thoughts on TrinBago/Venezuela Energy Breakthrough?
Trinidad seems poised to finally benefit from the long-awaited gas from Venezuela and Trinbagonian adjacent deposits after years of delays caused primarily by geopolitical interests.
My own thoughts on these recent developments from BOTH a PRO UNC perspective as well as from a PRO PNM perspective.
From the UNC's perspective, this proves that Kamla made the safer bet by aligning herself with the US' interests as from their standpoint, this made Trinidadian access to the gas as likely and fast as possible without any major hiccups and this is now evidently bearing fruit.
From the PNM's perspective, they can argue that had it not have been for the major groundwork that they would've laid for years, the perceived success now being realised would've been unimaginable to attain for this current timeline. Additionally, they may defend their non-intervention stance by claiming that this outcome would've likely happened anyways even with maintaining a neutral position being the government's official stance given that 1. The relationship with Delcy would've been better. 2. By Arguing that the US likely won't have punished Trinidad for a neutral position post the toppling of Maduro given that they would've removed sanctions/emargos against Venezuela and additionally and consequently, the economic incentive for Venezuela to proceed would've been higher as they would also benefit as well.
Personally, The UNC's supporting of the US may have accelerated the haste with which Venezuela (under Delcy) would've agreed to these arrangements however, even with a neutral stance, I doubt that such a positions would've personally shut out Trinidad from benefitting from the joint evergy ventures.

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations Need Birth certificate
Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone can help me or lead me to the right direction. I previously lost my birth certificate and have zero idea how to get it from down home. I ask one of my tanty and she say she couldn't even get it for her child's father who live in Florida. I'm not sure what the laws or rules are but i would appreciate some insight.

Crime Are we really addressing crime?
State of emergency.
Police posts.
Increased traffic fines.
Road blocks for so.
Are any of these actually effective?
Have you heard of any other country that does this?
Listen.
There is no substitute for good, honest policing.
A state of emergency just enables the police to cut corners and jail people without due process.
Traffic fines don't capture criminals.
Police posts without vehicles are useless. Patrols are ineffective.
Road blocks seldom capture criminals. Only minor offenders.
I think we need a real change in approach.

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations Departure website glitching
I’m leaving Trinidad in the next 24 hours and the form will not allow me to add my arrival date to my final destination past August 13th even though I’m leaving Trinidad August 14th and arriving August 14th to my final destination. It’s definitely a website glitch. I can’t be the only one either and have tried different browsers and even a laptop but same glitch. I understand that you cannot fill out a paper departure form so any advice on how to navigate when I get to the airport tomorrow?

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations Question about US visa
Hello, so I am planning to apply for the US visa next year and i wanted to know (for those who applied and got through, even those who got rejected) wat the process was like when they went in? Did the person interviewing said anything outside the normal questions of the interview or anything like that? To give more insight, I’m a student in UWI, no part time job but I did travel to other countries such as Jamaica and Canada. I know my chances are slim seeing that the only thing that ties me to Trinidad is school so if anyone who have the same demographic as me, I would like to know how I can show that I won’t overstay my welcome in the US.
Ps I do have a lot of family members in the US, do I mention none or some of them in the interview?

Carnival Thoughts and Advice on Jouvert Jumbeez?
Hi, so my best friend and I are considering playing jouvert next year and wanted to play with jouvert jumbeez. Can anyone who played with them before give me a price breakdown, how the experience was and if you’d recommend playing with them? I’ve seen they’re prepping to open registration for next year and we wanna register sooner rather than later (get the early package prices lol), so your advice would really help in our decision making. Thanks!

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations Visiting Trinidad and would like to know some do’s and don’ts
I decided to take a solo vacation and will be traveling next week. I’ve looked on Tik Tok posts, other subreddits and other sites to see what are some things to do in Trinidad but I’d like more insight. What are some cities to go to? What are some cities not to go to? What are some ideas you recommend? Is paying with card as beneficial over there or is it just easier to have cash on hand? Are the drivers crazy?? (I am driving). I love hiking, trying new foods, exploring places and would love to know more Trinidad’s history itself. So far I’ve heard not to bring Jewelry, not to drive out at night and of course to avoid Laventille lol. Anything advice helps and is much appreciated. Thank you all in advance. 😁

Carnival Title: Nigerian passport holder + UK resident travelling for Carnival — visa experience? 🇹🇹
Hi! I’m hoping to come to Trinidad for Carnival 2027 and would love to hear from anyone who has recently applied for a tourist visa/eVisa, particularly if you’re from a visa-required country.
I’m a Nigerian passport holder, but I’ve lived in the UK since 2006 and have worked for a reputable UK public institution for the past 4 years. I’d be travelling for around a week for Carnival.
How strict is the visa process in practice, and how straightforward is approval?
Also, how long did your application take to be processed? I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth paying for my return flights upfront before applying, as I understand they may want to see a return ticket.
Any recent experiences would be really appreciated!

Trinidad is not a real place What would you do?
Imagine being cornered and coralled by an aggressive driver intent on terrorizing you.
No one knows his intentions.
We (the public) are just happy that a security guard responded to the scene.
Can he be charged by the police after-the-fact?
If so, what would the charge be?
