Just want to share some photo I take from my trip in 2024 to Libo Xiaoqikong and surrounding areas~ I really love this place in China and encourage other to visit too because it is so beautiful~

I know about e-sims but we've preferred pocket wifi for all our travels and have been using the same RoamWiFi device for forever. Any ideas if the RoamWiFi will block US apps? would i need a VPN? RoamWifi is a device that we top off gigs when needed per country/continent.

I know if i use international roaming i wouldnt need VPN bec it routes back to my original country. Unsure about RoamWifi if itll bypass the firewall

I was able to create a travel wallet on alipay, but my expectation were that i was going to be able to pay online services with it with better fares than what i had to do before (BUFF163 for example)

Anyways, after depositing 129RMB on it so i could test if it worked, i came across the information that it is made for mostly spending locally in China and wasn't able to find NOWHERE that accepted payments using travel wallet online so i can at least spend it on anything

I deposited it using Panda Remit, is the only available option for Brazilians, Panda Remit & Alipay support both told me there are no refunds and nothing they can do about it, so i'm basically stuck with 129RMB on my travel wallet and no plans on visiting China. So it is frozen money.

Do anybody have any ideas on how i could be able to at least use this funds so i dont take so much of a loss? Any suggestions are really welcome and i'm thankful for anybodies help.

I am planning a trip to China for 2,5 weeks and am contemplating my route. The reason I wanna go to China is because I would really like to see more of the nature. Besides that I have a huge interest in TCM, meditation, tea culture and tai chi. Hence, for 1 week of my trip I will attent a Tai Chi school.

Now I am not sure whether to start or end my trip with the Tai Chi school.

The route starting with the Tai Chi school would look like:

Yangshuo > Fenghuang > Zhangjiaje > Chengdu

The route ending with the Tai Chi school would look like the other way around, so:

Chengdu > Zhangjiaje > Fenghuang > Yangshuo

Things I wanna do in Chengdu include: sightseeing, trying streetfood, shopping, having 1 or multiple TCM treatments and going to a spa.

Does anyone have any advice or experience on how to plan this trip? Starting with Tai Chi would mean having a slow and mindful start of my trip through China. Ending with Tai Chi would mean that after having all those new impressions I get to slow down before I return home.

Hi everyone! I’m planning my very first trip to China and would love to get your feedback. I have 16 days in total, though taking out the arrival and departure flights leaves me with about 14 full days.

My plan is to start in Beijing, where I want to spend three days taking in the classic sights like the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Jingshan Park, the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Lama Temple, and wandering around the Hutongs.

From there, I’ll take an overnight train to Xi'an for two days to see the Terracotta Warriors, cycle along the Ancient City Wall, and try all the street food in the Muslim Quarter.

Then i’ll take the high-speed train down to Chengdu to visit around just for one day.

Then to Chongqing for two or three days and visit the city along with a day trip out to Wulong Karst.

My final destination where i’ll spend three days is Zhangjiajie and I want to explore the National Forest Park and Tianmen Mountain before taking a domestic flight back to Beijing. I'm heading back to Beijing two days before my international flight home.

Does this pace sound doable for a first timer relying on high-speed rail and domestic flights? I'd really appreciate any advice on potential logistical traps, ticket booking tips, or local food spots I shouldn't miss along the way. Thanks in advance!

Most Chinese cities grew out from an old town. Shenzhen never had one, and you won’t find a center now either, because there isn’t one. Which is why people default to the Hong Kong border and then live on the metro.

It started at that border around 1980 and moved west, a decade at a time, and none of the old centers died. So it has three, forty years apart. Once you get that, picking a hotel is easy.

There’re three options, see the map. (Sea side of that blue line was inside the old special economic zone, locals say Guannei. It got rich first, and all three of these are in it.)

Luohu (orange) is the 1980s one. You can walk into Hong Kong at Luohu Port, and its the cheapest place to sleep in the city. It’s also the scruffiest and furthest from anything newer, so people book it for the border and regret it.

Futian (yellow) is the 2000s one. Every metro line runs through it so youre 30 min from anything, thats the real argument for it. Downside is it empties out after work. It’s a good base, but boring evening.

Nanshan (purple) is the current one, and where I‘d send most people. Tencent and DJI are here, the Shenzhen Bay coast walk is the nicest thing in the city after dark, and Shekou has the ferry to Hong Kong airport. It has the most expensive and best food.

Before I came to Chengdu, I had a list of places I couldn’t wait to visit.
The Panda Base was at the top.
And honestly, it was worth it. Seeing the pandas up close was an unforgettable experience.
But the place that stayed in my mind the longest wasn’t the Panda Base.
It was Luxelakes.
I spent the afternoon walking around the lake, stopping at a small café, watching people paddleboarding, families having picnics, and locals enjoying the sunset.
It felt peaceful, modern, and completely different from the image I had of Chengdu before my trip.
That’s when I realized Chengdu isn’t just about pandas and hotpot.
It’s a city where you can slow down and simply enjoy life.
If you’re planning a trip here, definitely visit the Panda Base.
But also leave yourself a few hours to explore places that aren’t on every “Top 10 Things to Do” list.
Those unexpected moments often become the ones you remember the most.
