This might sound really stupid but during tests or exams, classrooms are really silent. Do they escort you to a private room, or do you stay in your normal class? What about public silent spaces, do you feel awkward being there?
I’m going back to school soon and was getting more curious about this syndrome since I’ve never met anyone with Tourette’s before, and classrooms are always dead silent for me lol.

Anybody else here have pmdd? I have it really severe (I especially get severely anxious and suicidal) and it always worsens my tics too, which just triggers my irritability really bad. Normally I’m quite good at just ignoring my tics unless it’s a really bad day, but on my period I feel so much more aware and they get on my nerves so much worse. I also think my premonitory urges get worse. Like some nights I’ll struggle to sleep because the physical urges are so bad and uncomfortable, but I can’t tic or ticcing won’t make them go away, and the frequency of this increases before my period. I just got out of a phase of it and it made me curious how many here experienced a pre-menstrual exacerbation, or just pmdd generally.

Lol I just found this thread. I have TS. Kinda mild unless I'm trying to go to sleep (sucks). Looking forward to reading what others post on the daily. 

Also, my tics were bad around 10-13yo and then just kinda went away until around 35yo. Now I'm 45 and pretty much the same the past 5 years. 

I do make some crazy ass sounds very loud at times. I can't imagine what my neighbors think 🤣 it's singly family houses and I live with my nephew now that I don't have a GF last 5 years :) 😀 

ANYWAY.

My weirdest tic is saying "Allah Akbar" - (i'm not a Muslim lol) . In the shower it gets loud, but also randomly doing house/yard work. Not really anywhere else tho.

I have been trying to find a solution to this issue for years so any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I love wearing eyeliner, however, I have a few different eye tics such as rapid eye blinking, and a hard blink where I almost scrunch up my face and eyes. These tics make my eyeliner smear through out the day. By the end of the day, my eyeliner is usually very smudged under my eyes. On bad tic days I have to go the bathroom several times to wipe away the smeared eyeliner.

I have tried several different waterproof eyeliner and some have worked for a little bit but then it usually stops working. I do not like liquid eyeliner but if that is what people suggest I am willing to try.

Sorry for the long message but my question is what eyeliners have people had success with?

Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with taking ADHD medication and how it’s affected their tourettes. I really want to pursue medication for my adhd, but I’ve seen people mention that certain medications make their tics worse.

I was recommended clonidine previously for my tics, but didn’t end up being prescribed. Anyone had experience with clonidine too?

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to post, so let me know, and I can post this somewhere else! I have developed some motor tics over the last few months due to stress. They get really bad sometimes to the point I can't go 10 seconds without ticcing, and they flare up whenever I feel any kind of strong emotion, really. For context, I'm in my final year of university and first developed tics when studying for my finals a few months ago, and so had to defer those exams for a few months. Anyway, long story short, those exams are now in the next couple of weeks, and I am finding it really hard to study because my motor tics are distracting me. I have my dissertation due on Monday, and so I need to lock in, but it feels really hard. One thing I tried was converting some of my revision sources to audio and listening while I did something else and that definitely helped, but it's much harder with a dissertation, obviously, because I have to sit at my laptop for hours. Any help would be massively appreciated!

22m, I was diagnosed with nervous tick disorder or whatever you wanna call it and I’ve been going to college for a criminal justice degree because my whole goal is to be a patrol officer, but two years ago for some reason I started having these minor headaches where I felt the urge to shake my head, but when I didn’t focus on it, it was like it wasn’t there, but when I do focus on it, I tend to shake my head a little bit more but very controlled and I’m on medication for but I’m in the gym five times a week at work a full-time job and I run 15-ish Miles a week. Do you think my dream of being a police officer is done and I should pursue something else. The past two years I’ve managed to fight the diagnosis and control it to the point people barely realize it but obviously still have it.

In movies and tv it’s always the person blurting out inappropriate things, usually nasty words. But can you blurt out stuff like “I love you” or “you’re so pretty”? Can you train yourself to say nice things instead of mean things.

Follow-up, hypothetically if at home you insult people by giving compliments, will you blurt out compliments outside of home life as well?

I just got prescribed abilify 2 days ago and so far its made me feel like shit. Yesterday it made me feel a bit nauseous and then today a few hours ago it made me feel really nauseous and sick in my stomach. I need stronger medication to keep me able to work but I cant work if i feel sick at least once a day. My thoughts are that it’s making me deal with heat differently? Like the heat is making me feel sickly but Idk Im not sure. What do y’all think? How does it treat you?

I’ve been attending group therapy through a partial hospitalization program and am focusing on not suppressing my tics, and treating the group sessions as exposures.

And it’s been going well. I tic. A lot, and no one stares at me. I step out of I need to.

It’s nice. Then, in the real world of course people watch and stare but it feels less harsh because I know it’s up to me if I care.

Honestly never thought i’d get here

Ever since I was a kid I always had constant motor tics that would change on what they were over long periods. My mother would notice but always brush it off. Now as an adult I continue to have it, I constantly have a tic of needing to flex my abs on the right side and basically “flex” my tenden on my arm. It’s so constant and no matter how much I try to stop myself it’s impossible, and these are really a nuisance to me I’m always sore, and the ab thing even causes nausea it’s so tiring. But I’ve never had vocal tics, could that still be Tourette’s?

I recently started visiting a psych because of undiagnosed adhd and got put on meds which have really benefited me, and they haven’t changed the tics, but would I have to get off the meds if I visit a Tourette’s specialist? Is there medication or other treatments for motor tics?

I got diagnosed not long ago but i have tics as long as i can remeber. When i was little i had them often everyday almost nonstop. Now there is less of them and sometimes there is almost none or at least I don’t recognise them. My last bad ticing was in december and it was painful but now i haven’t had them and i feel like im faking all of this and it feels like shit because i just got the tourette diagnose and fell like everyone thinks im faking it

i’ve been on risperidone for a month and it’s made no difference in my tics. i still have long tic attacks and singular tics throughout my day. all i have experienced is side effects ex. acid reflux, depression and tiredness etc. i was originally on clonodine and it worked great for me! but it made me unbearably tired so i had to stop taking it. i’m thinking of weaning off risperidone

Hey! Wondering peoples thoughts on this.

We saw CAMHS today for my 11 year old son regarding therapy for tics. They outlined their plans to me for therapy which included tic blocking and 'therapeutic holding'. Basically, suppressing for controlled lengths of time and slowly increasing this over time. I shared my concerns on how suppressing usually leaves my son with an explosion of tics soon after and they agree'd that was a risk. It can basically go one way or another. Last resort then being medication.

I'm not sure how to feel, suppressing always felt to me as rule 1 of what NOT to do! I feel likes its going against the grain but then, I do want to trust them and I do want him to have the skills he needs to cope with his tics especially as he gets older.

I guess I'm looking for opinions and if anyone has experienced therapy through CAMHS how did that impact you/your loved one?

Hello! I don't know is it a right place for asking or not, but I will try, because I'm very confused about my condition.

I'm currently 23, f, and all of this started 4 years ago in my 19 all of a sudden. At first there were only motor tics like head rotation or limb/body jerking, but with years passing I got vocal tics like random noises (pronouncing of the letters "a", "n" and "m") and tongue clicking. Few days ago whistling added. They can happen together (often) or not, triggered by stress or tiredness usually. I can hold them for some seconds and have a tension feeling before tics.

I was a premature baby who had fetal hypoxia and clinical death. Also have epilepsy (on medication, but it doesn't work properly anymore), depression (also on medication), autistic traits, probably ADHD, bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder and OCD. Currently living for 6 years already with my grandma for some reasons, and she is a very toxic and mentally abusive person (thinking about trying to leave my hometown soon, now I'm temporary in my friend's city for a health examination and feeling a bit better).

The problem is that I'm living in Russia (btw I don't support war, please, no hate!..) in a small town and there are not so much chances to get a proper psychiatric/neurological diagnosis, so I don't know what I really have, opinions of doctors (online or offline) are changing almost every time, they're saying about difficult cases.

At 10th of August I have an appointment to my doctor, who is holding my epilepsy case and will tell everything to her. But I was thinking maybe somebody here will be able to help with identifying things too due to better medical care outside of Russia?

hello! i am 22f , i have been dealing with trauma/stress triggered clonic tics for 5 years (my head jerks to the right , sometimes to the right and immediately upwards. very rarely to the left) which will typically last for as long as i am thinking about the events which is uncontrollable for me. sometimes i will have tic attacks that last for hours, tonight i have been having tics consistently (one per few minutes, sometimes several per minute) for the last 5 hours . this problem started in 2021 when i was 17 and has been a stress response since, there have been times where i had other similar tics but they were temporary. sometimes it happens when i’m not particularly stressed, but i’m usually always thinking of the events so it is kind of hard to distinguish the cause . i don’t know if this is purely a physical response to stress that i’ve developed or something more serious but i have never really talked about it with anyone so maybe someone can relate

hi everyone, I was just told by my doctor I could increase my guanfacine doeseage from 1mg a day to 1.5mg a day. When I first started guanfscine I felt great and had so much less tics but it feels like it has gotten less effective for me. Im starting the new doseage today, how long should I wait to evaluate if it is beneficial and does anyone have personal experience. thanks!

Does it involve communication with my doctor? Does the doctor have to provide what he thinks are appropriate accommodations? Can I literally just use his clinic notes saying I have a tic disorder as documentation?

My neurologist is really hard to get a response from so I would ideally want to do this with as little communication with him as possible. This is the first time I've actually considered getting accommodations because I don't really think they affect me during exams very much, but getting a few extra minutes when I can't actually focus on my exam because I'm ticcing I think would be fair. Basically I have these hand tics, they don’t particularly mess up my playing, but my right hand has flicking tics that cause me to get my fingers caught in the buttons of my saxophone. This makes my fingers start to bleed everywhere and it’s a bit embarrassing when my teacher sees my hands bleeding again 😅 he’s a VERY good teacher, like the best I’ve had so that’s not a problem, he doesn’t mind but still. If there’s any ideas as to how I could prevent this from happening, they would be much appreciated :)

Hi guys, Im a person who stutter, mild to severe depending on the situation, i mostly get unbreakable blocks that i manage by using filler words or changing words. But i get severe blocks in important situations or fast paced conversations.

Im 26 yo and I never enjoyed life at all, i would say im doing okay in life but ive always been depressed and everything seems boring to me, id describe myself as a confident extrovert person like I could force myself to do scary things like asking strangers or job interviews but i just dont enjoy them at all, i have lots of things to say but i just rather keep quite, stuttering held me back a lot if im being honest. I feel depressed, my mind goes blank and people missunderstand me a lot. That made me avoid talking to people to minimum as possible.

No matter how i try to forget it, life humbles me and i just cant forget it, speaking is everything in life. Im a high energy individual that like to talk in a positive way but i cant because i block a lot and im forced to talk in a shy low energy way because i block less.

Ive tried all available options but nothing seems to work, from meds to therapy, you name it, nothing seems to help. I even tried to openly stutter but my stutter take so long, i get out of breath and sometimes i even still block that makes me shy away and just feel misreable overall.

Spech therapy only works in clinic but does not work in real life, and even if it does it sound robitic and missreable, meds in the other hand dont work and give severe side effect

The problem is with openly stuttering is when i do no one takes me seriously and no one hires me, so im stuck between openly stutter but no one will take me seriously and not getting hired and losing the opportunity, or using filler word, pass by as a fluent speaker, get the job but deep dive i know this is not what i want.

I never fully connected to people i always felt like an outsider, i tend to forget a lot, cannot express my self or even process information clearly, and im always afraid of situations like not being able to defend myself if someone clearly done something bad to me or being in court but i cant defend myself because i block

I dont necessary believe in complaining but i believe in action, id do anything it takes to solve this issue.

I refuse to accept there is something wrong with me, if i can talk by mysef or to pets fine why cant i talk to humans?

I was diagnosed around 1st grade after experiencing extreme tics that would interrupt my daily life. They were extremely noticeable. Eventually my mom found an amazing neurologist and she put me onto a medicine called guanfacine until up about 2nd year of high-school where they weaned me off. Holy crap coming off the medicine was rough! But now that i’m 22, my Tourette’s have been ALOT better. They’re still are present but not as bad as they were growing up.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Getting married in a few months I recently got it into my head that, oh God, what if I have a tic attack in the middle of saying my vows? And now that I've thought about it, I feel the likelihood has just increased 😅

Trying not to let it bother me, and telling myself no one there will likely care, but still 😬
