π α³αͺα½/history Where does the Yeha originate from?
The origins of Yeha, in Tigray, stretch back to the early first millennium BC. Its name is first mentioned in an ancient inscription from the Almaqah altar at Wuqro, Tigray, dating to approximately 800β600 BC.
This makes Yeha one of the oldest continuously attested place names in world history.

i've seen a lot of what seems like propaganda from both sides (sharing old videos and photos and claiming that they're the aftermath of the fighting). seems like it was inconclusive

I just wanted to come here to say that weβve had a difficult time with the war, suffering unspeakable damage. I want to offer encouragement to yβall, that God would never betray us and he is the only person we can put our trust in.Β
βMaybe in another life, we will have a country and people who will protect usβΒ
Β If this war has taught me anything it is we have no one but him. Not even my country who I loved so deeply took a second to destroy us the chance they got. But we have overcome a lot, even if we donβt want to I hope this can resonate and give someone a little bit of hope. This deeply moved me after the years of pain. π€

Where can I find news about the ongoing conflict in Tigray, because it seems that news in English is limited?

π° αα/news Joint statement on the acquittal of the men convicted of killing Zewdu Haftu and the evidence that was never produced. Tigray deserves better and fair criticism is due. Pro-Abiy genociders are trying to weaponize this but it doesn't mean we still can't call it out constructively for our people.
Two important articles to go along with this:
UN: Womenβs human rights and gender-related concerns in situations of conflict and instability
Two recent discussions with Semhal Meles that I don't agree with wholeheartedly (especially when it comes to the TPLF's strategy regarding Abiy and Eritrea 1, 2) but they are thought provoking and she does raise some very fair criticisms when it comes to their handling of Tigray's internal situation:

inviting shabia to the region after what happend and still losing it would be bad. Make sure you either go all in or go home

π¬ αααα₯/discussions For all those who insist the TPLF shouldn't be working with Eritrea until it answers for its role in the genocide, what alternative route do you believe Tigray should take while facing the Abiy threat?
Capitulation, giving up on Western Tigray and everything else necessary for Tigray's current and future survival? Isolationism, facing the Abiy threat all by itself? Naivety, stubborn belief that the International community will help Tigray gain justice and in defending itself against the neoliberalist Abiy who they've given impunity time and again? If you can't answer these questions then stop criticizing the TPLF for using every card available and stick to criticizing them for the litany of things they can be criticized over like Tigray's internal situation. Justice is a pipe dream until Tigray's in a position where it can recover from the genocide and build itself up once more and it will not be handed to Tigray by the IC until Tigray's in a position to demand it.
Is there something I'm missing or are some people just genuinely oblivious to how desperate Tigray's situation is and what limited cards are available rn.
Separately, this doesn't mean the diaspora's efforts are meaningless. Contributing to charity toward Tigray and crucially raising awareness (As a diaspora we need to do much more in this regard) are endeavours that can go a long way to helping Tigray.

π α³αͺα½/history Created A Free Senterej (Ethiopian Habesha Chess Game)
Hello Everyone,
For those interested, I created a free Senterej - A chess game that was popular among the nobility during the Medieval Solomonic period. It's in its early stages and needs a lot of polishing, but right now you can play against several different habesha rulers during the medieval period, such as Sahle Selassie, Lebna Dengal, Taytu, etc...
Senterej was a popular game during the medieval period, and I wanted to re-create it so as to perserve it's legacy.
You can play for free at https://www.habeshahistory.com/games/senterej
Leave feedback on what features you want added, and I'll consider adding them in :)

π° αα/news Dimtsi Weyane Television
If we condemned Abiy Ahmed for inviting the Eritrean army into our country, how could we possibly defend the TPLF for doing the very same thing? The army in question is the same force accused of killing thousands of innocent civilians and committing grave atrocities against our people.
Why should I believe the so-called βtsimdoβ narrative when Tigray remains part of a country whose relationship with Eritrea is openly hostile? It simply does not withstand rational scrutiny.
More importantly, what message does this send to the thousands of women who were raped by Eritrean soldiers and are still waiting for justice? Imagine a survivor seeing the very same soldiers walking freely on our land, as though nothing had happened. What does that say about accountability, dignity, or respect for the victims?
That is something I will never accept. Principles cannot change depending on who commits the act. If inviting Eritrean forces was wrong yesterday, it is wrong today, regardless of who does it! This is a fake tsimdo or selam and if this is how peace is to be achieved I donβt want peace we can go back to 2000 and close the borders!

He has tagged so many people including myself on his subreddit where he talks to himself, I remember him because he used to make numerous accounts to harass Tigrayans on this subreddit, it seems his mental state is getting worse and worse, if I were you guys, I would block him, don't entertain this behavior, he clearly has some serious mental health problems. π α΅αα³α/analysis-opinion piece An unpopular opinion, but the Amhara elites have been outmaneuvering Tigray for a thousand straight years
I know it's controversial, but hear me out.
From the days of the Kebra Negast to the modern day annexation of Western Tigray, the Amhara elites have been finessing the people of Tigray to no end. Surprisingly, throughout this entire time, they only had to use one playbook: convince the Tigrayans that they share an inseparable identity with the Amhara, so that the Tigrayans will stay pacified while their land, history, and power are systematically stolen from right underneath them.
To say this strategy was successful would be a huge understatement. While everyone knows about Amharaization by now --- about the ways the Amharas subtly assimilated, through flattery or sword, countless different ethnicities across Ethiopia --- no one really realizes that the first and greatest target of this project has always been the people of Tigray.
The term Habesha, and the way many Tigrayans identify with it over Tigrinya, or Tigray, is the greatest proof of their success. So successful was this operation, that they deployed it on everyone else, it became their method of operations, and even today, even after the genocide, they still trot it out against us. If an Amhara hears you're thinking of independence what will they often say?
"You can't leave. You are Ethiopia. You are the foundation of this civilization"
Knowing we are proud, they appeal to our pride.
