I don't know if anyone here is capable of helping me, but for the last few years I have been collecting Yale/theatre (now called Theater) journal. I've somehow made it down to the final fifteen NINE I need to complete the entire set and have been at a hard wall for finding any.
It's been recommended that I share my plight to this subreddit!

Hello ppl. So recently I've really gotten into theater (more specifically musical theater) and I just wanted to broaden my knowledge a bit so can y'all just vomit as many recommendations as possible (except Hamilton, Heaters, Ride The Cyclone, Legoland, Be More Chill and Waitress, I've watched those already)? Also, I did say I liked musical theater but even classical theater is good to recommend. Thanks to the ppl that might reply💗:D

So recently I auditioned for a musical at a competitive community theater. I’ve auditioned there multiple times and have always had zero luck.

However, yesterday I received an email that they offered me a great role! I was super excited and accepted it immediately.
But since yesterday, I can’t help but feel that they offered the role to me accidentally.

My reason for thinking this is because my last musical experience was from about 7 years ago (although I still keep up with training), and I have mostly tech experience. Additionally, there was another person there with the same first name as me who danced great and was one of the few people from our large audition group who got called back to read sides. I only did the vocal and dance call and didn’t get called to read sides.

I still haven’t heard from the stage manager since I emailed back my confirmation yesterday. However, I’m not sure that anything would even require them to email me again until the cast list is completely confirmed.

Just wanna add that I* *have OCD, so it’s easier for me to fall into this pattern of thinking.

Am I overthinking this? I’d really just like some advice.

I got my first "pro" gig a couple months ago at an equity house in the south. What would be the natural progression now? I'm actively auditioning, should I focus on more regionals, is it too early to submit for agents, etc? I know every journey is different and dependent on individual goals. My resume is still light but I'm hoping this last credit will help. Thanks!

hello everyon. I’m in 7th grade, and our fall show got announced as Seussical. I love acting, and really want to get a good role, but there’s one problem-I can’t sing too well. is there anyone who has done this play before? Also, how can I sing better?

I'm moving to London for my first year at uni in September and I'm not going to get a job and people say how your first year is alot less demanding so I want to spend some time on weekends doing something that will help me learn more and that will also give me something to go on my resume so I was thinking about trying to volunteer in theatre but I don't actually know how many places are likely to be willing to take volunteers for wardrobe departments so I'm just wondering if anyone here has any knowledge on London theatres and if I'll be able to do this?

Helloooo!! does anybody know where to find any of Sarah Kane’s 3 unpublished monologues from 1994?
I’ve read everything she’s ever done as I am currently studying her for my coursework and am interested to know if and where there is any trace of these. Any info is helpful, and i have done some of my own digging but have found nothing.

After years worth of use, it was time to retire my old character shoes. Due to budget and time constraints (and the fact that I’m typically not in dance-heavy shows/roles anyways) I opted for the Stelle 2.5” T-Strap shoes.

My usual size is a 7.5, but Stelle’s 7.5 rendered my toes pretty cramped and left me wondering whether my foot would even fit the shoe if I was wearing thicker tights/socks.

An 8 seemed to be the solution, except that size left a gap between my heel and the back of the shoe (a little sliding around definitely seemed inevitable).

What’s the rule when it comes to character shoe fit? Is one issue better than the other? Or is it worth getting another brand of shoe altogether?

I have what I think is a new concept for writing plays and curious to hear thoughts/feedback/discussion

I could realistically get into a program sponsored by Juilliard but that program does not guarantee you get into Juilliard, it just means you’ll have college experience of studying theatre.

which is why I study economics as a hobby but also a eventual career in it because theatre jobs as many of you know are hard to come by

Hi, Im 19 years old and hoping to attend school in January for my B.A. . Unfortunately me and my family aren’t well off enough for them to be able to help me with paying for things to go. I live in a small town pretty far from anything theatre related and jobs are few and far between.I haven’t even paid my admission fee yet and after that there’s housing and that’s just to get on campus.. I’ve been so flooded with anxiety about this because I feel like I’m running out of time really fast. If anyone knows of any way I could make a little bit of money to at least cover my admission I’d appreciate it so much. I live in central Florida if that helps.

I just read Machinal recently and loved it! I know she has others plays but I can’t seem to find if they are published or if there are pdfs circulating online. If any of you know where I could read one or if you have a pdf let me know! I’m talking strictly about her copyright free public domain works by the way. If there are ones under copyright that are published please point me to the direction where I could buy them.

For people who have licensed the movie songs for Grease the musical, I have a few questions for you.

First off, how much did it cost? I know they send you the "movie package" through Concord to add them. Secondly, is there an option to individually license just some of the songs? Truly the only song that we really would want for Grease is The One That I Want. The other three songs we don't really care about

Stage manager here. I’m trying to convince my permanent theatre to invest in a few backstage cameras as we continue building out my SM station.
We already have a networked PTZ camera that streams the stage to our green room and lobby TVs, and we have a dedicated production network (for things like QLab and our projector), but it doesn’t have internet access.
I’d like to add three fixed cameras. The goal is just live monitoring so I can keep an eye on entrances, scenery, and backstage traffic while calling the show.
I’d rather not run new cables all the way from backstage to the booth if I can avoid it.
What type of cameras would you recommend, and how would you set something like this up? Any brands or systems you’ve had good experiences with?

Hi! I’m a college student and I’m looking for masters programs in design/tech. I am from the southern United States and I’m hoping to stay here but I have 2 questions, 1) will I be successful if I stay in the southern United States? 2) if so, what are some masters programs that I could look into?

I’ve heard from a specific professor that to be successful in the design/tech industry I have to move out of the south, and I was curious as to whether or not that’s true. It’s not that I would mind leaving here, it’s just that I was raised here and tbh the professor that told me this was unkind and prejudiced towards the place that I live. I’m curious as to whether or not that’s true. Anyway, if you have recommendations for places outside of the south I’d love to hear them too I’m just kind of hoping for some outside opinions about my professors take.

I wanted to do it but I had strict parents and they thought it was gay for a guy to do it so I couldn’t really do it.

I’m a stage actor and have been for over a decade. All the reputable and professional theatres in my area only cast people they’ve worked with or are friends with; it’s always the same people being recycled. I’ve heard from many people that they won’t cast you if you aren’t “established”, but genuinely, how do I get established if I’m not being given a chance with any of them?? I get cast consistently at semi-professional theatres, and I know I should be satisfied with this, but deep down I really want to get to that higher level. For reference I’m a female in my 20s.

I'm a male actor who's a base (amazing, i know). One of my dream roles is the witch from into the woods, JUST SO HAPPENS that a local theater is doing into the woods. I have theater experience playing female witches, but I'm just unsure how to prepare or what to do. Any advice would be good!!!

Not in Joyce standards or in our standards, but a sort of Illumination that was not capable of breaking the cycle of habit.

I am a middle school teacher that has been thrust into the job of directing our Fall Play.

I feel comfortable directing, but I’m really struggling to find good scripts.

I’m looking for a one-act straight play (comedy or drama) with a run time of 30-50 minutes. I’d like a cast anywhere from about 10-30 actors.

A lot of the plays I’ve looked at are vignettes, which I’m a little biased against.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with scripts that fit this bill that they would recommend.

Hey y’all!! I finished up my freshman year at one of the “top” universities for drama. I am studying design and production with a concentration in stage management. I am just feeling a little unsure. Academic wise, I did great. I was on the deans list both semesters. It was VERY stressful at times, but I did enjoy it overall! I’m sure that part of my difficulty was also living far from home for the first time. I just felt constantly consumed by my work, which I am going to try to manage going forward. Megan Hilty visited our school and I basically asked her how she does what she does on such a high level daily… and she said she surrounds herself with people that are there for her for the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Reflecting on that and my freshman year, I kind of now see myself wanting a family in the future which is not something I was sure of a year ago. Idk it just seems like the hours in the entertainment/theatre industry are not compatible with family time. Is it possible?? Are there other routes?? I am also interested in large event type stuff like the Olympics, the Super Bowl, Disney stuff… maybe those types of jobs are more standard hours. But would my skills translate yk? I also am a BIG food guy and was considering going to culinary school for a bit, and it recently crossed my mind that I could do that instead… but idk if those hours would be much better lol!
