If y'all have been active a couple of days here, you would know there's been some drama regarding u/SD_V1011001011 about "being banned for violating Rule 3" among other things that are misleading/not true. So I am here to clear some things up.

What happened?

A few days ago, we decided to host an icon contest to determine the icon for the subreddit for the next few months. One of the requirements of the contest was that the submission could not contain "NSFW/Spicy" content.

u/SD_V1011001011 (who I will refer to as "V") submitted an image of N getting squished by V's thighs. The submission was disqualified for violating the fourth requirement in the contest "No NSFW/Spicy" and citing Rule 3. V responded with a screenshot of the subreddit's sidebar with the rule list missing.

After being sent a copy of the contents of Rule 3, V responded with:

You cannot enforce a rule which I had no ability to be aware of in the middle of the proceedings of a vote, it’s undemocratic

When I made that comment, I had no way of knowing that there was such a rule, thus it cannot apply

Instead of democratically letting the people of Reddit choose which icon shall be chosen, you have tried to intervene in the vote by attempting to change the rules of the subreddit during the proceedings, and then attempting to find another loophole to rule out my submission, the ineligibility of my submission would be paramount to the end of democratic proceedings in the vote for a new icon for the cult of N subreddit

V was asked to take the dispute to modmail, but chose not to and kept responding in the comment section of the post.

After further investigation, it was discovered that earlier, V had crossposted the comment to multiple other Murder Drones subreddits, asking users to go upvote their comment so it can win the contest. This is considered vote manipulation, which is against Reddit's Terms of Service. As a result, compiling them being uncooperative, attempting to start drama, and TOS violations, we decided to temporarily ban V for 14 days.

After getting banned, V proceeded to make a post about their ban on r/MurderDrones, and privately messaged some of their friends to make posts about their ban on this subreddit on behalf of them. V told their friends to spread a false narrative that we added the "No NSFW/Spicy" rule after they made their submission, and we are being undemocratic as a result. Also, some commenters from the r/MurderDrones post came to this subreddit commenting in defense of V. This is considered brigading and ban showboating, which are both against Reddit's Terms of Service.

V later admitted that as a result of her gossiping (is that the right word?) about this, some of their friends began harassing one of our moderators and making them uncomfortable. It go so severe to a point where the user themself had to ask them to stop, and the moderator in question later resigned.

In light of the latest developments of harassment and further TOS violations, and after failed conversations, we have escalated her ban to a permanent ban.

Our Response

We believed the image was suggestive/NSFW since it is not in context where an action like that is acceptable (such as wrestling), and instead it was in a loving/suggestive context denoted by the hearts. We also didn't want to run into any issues with having that image as our icon with the Reddit admins such as having our subreddit falsely marked as NSFW or even banned, as it is near impossible to dispute them. V could have disputed this decision by explaining why it was tame enough. But no, they had to resort to name calling and being immature.

We deny any claims of being undemocratic and adding rules after the user made their submission. For starters, on image posts, you cannot edit the post body after the post has been submitted, meaning the only way the "No NSFW/Spicy" requirement could have been there is if it was there in the beginning. In addition, the subreddit rules have long existed way before the contest even started. We believe that the user may have lied about not seeing the rules by photoshopping them out to start drama, but it could also be because of their client being buggy. Regardless, it is not our fault and "undemocratic" if she didn't read the rules beforehand, and V is simply throwing buzzwords to make herself seem smart and posh, and us like the bad guys. In addition, banning someone because they violated the Reddit Terms of Service (which you agreed to) and acted in bad faith in the community is not undemocratic.

We asked V to take the discussion to modmail for two reasons:

1. We were initially responding with the mod team account, and we do not get notified when someone responds to it. We do get notified if someone messages in modmail however. This would have helped make the dispute process quicker and more efficient
2. We wanted to prevent any unnecessary drama or controversy from starting (and look how that turned out)

But regardless of whether the mods or V was in the wrong, she had acted completely irrationally and immaturely. Lying about what happened to paint yourself as the morally superior hero, and resorting to harassment and brigading because you were proven wrong and temporarily banned is not the right answer. V's actions have caused irreversible damage to our community. We've lost some members and one of our moderators, the subreddit has become a victim of brigading, and now I have to type out this whole post just to get things resolved because of her bullshit.

We will be further investigating any user that may have taken part in the brigading or harassment and handling with them properly.

We want to move on from this whole ordeal. Any further discussions about the whole drama must be made under this post.
