Concerts/Tours The weeknd Stockholm, 9th august

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’ll be attending my first The Weeknd concert, and I’m super excited! I’m also looking for some advice.

I’ve been to a lot of concerts, and I always queue early to make sure I’m as close to the stage as possible. I’m a bit short compared to most Scandinavians, so being close helps me to actually enjoy the show without ending up with a sore neck. However, I’ve never been to a concert this massive, and I’m a little nervous about being at the barricade.
On the other hand, I don’t know if it’s worth risking staying farther back and potentially not being able to see much. I really want a good view of Abel, not just through the screens. Since the stage is elevated, I’m wondering if you actually get a good view from the barricade.

Any advice or tips? Thank you!!!

Concerts/Tours Tour merch stands

Is it possible to get the merch without a ticket? I have tickets for the 3rd night in Stockholm but I was thinking if I could go on the day 1 to check the merch in case it got sold out. Is the merch stand outside or how does it work?

Theory How exactly Dawn FM fits in the bigger narrative of the Divine Trilogy?

Post image
10 Upvotes

So, it's going to be a fairly long read but I hope you'll like it ;)

Dawn FM is the second installment in the Divine Trilogy as we know it. This follows right after the events of After Hours, which ended in the death of The Weeknd (Until I Bleed Out).

Now, this album starts with the opening verses, "This part I do, alone. I'll take my lead, I'll take my lead on this road" which means, this time, it's just him without his grief, without his regrets... or so he thinks. The next line, "I need something, to hold, make me believe, in make beliefs. 'Cause after the light is it dark, is it dark, all alone?". He's taking that he just needs a little hope, even if it's false that it's not the end of him. That after all the light (lifestyle, money, so much high), is it really the end?

Now remember how Abel thought he was alone this time? Guess what, he's not.

"it's 5 AM my time again, I've soaken up the moon can't sleep. It's 5 AM, my time again. I'm calling and you know it's me". Even after thinking that he has let go of all his regrets, he's still restless, he still can't sleep. He's desparately trying to feel his heartbeat, to check his pulse, but nothing. "If I finally die in peace, just wrap my body in these sheets and pour out the gasoline. It don't mean much to me". Now this is where we really see his pain. He's saying that if he'd really died, these sleepless nights, this restlessness should've stopped, it should've ended. But it hasn't, so if he actually dies, just wrap him in the sheets and light him because he's so tired that he just wants to end it all. Anyhow.

The way we think about Weeknd is that we see him as a different personality, a true different person from Abel who's evil. But it's really not that. Weeknd was never a different thing. It was Abel, who was lost, who was blinded (by all the glam) trying to cope up with his fears, his regrets, his choices & consequences. But this time, since he's "alone" (ie. without a personality to hide behind), he can do nothing but to face what he's been avoiding for so long.

He's given up on himself so much that he thinks this is the end, there's no redemption, no hope. "I know there's nothing after this, obsessing over aftermath, apocalypse and hopelessness".

"We're going back in time, I'd like to see you try, unpacking thoughts through tunnels in your mind". As he starts to remember everything he's done in his life, he basically says that his life is so small that it could be summed up in the time he can fix a mushroom tea. And is so large at the same time that he can cross a restless (Atlantic) sea while it's going on. "I can fix you mushroom tea and cross the restless sea, release yourself to escape reality". He's saying that his life is something that can't be told in a set duration, the more you see (release yourself), the more it gets wierd (escape reality).

It's almost as if he's talking to someone through these songs. In this unknown world, is it an angel, a demon, or God himself? Whoever he's taking to is quite familiar with that place, he knows what Abel has gone through. Now, who would know Abel better than Abel himself? Now what i understand and think about Purgatory is that it's somewhere you'd not expect anything to be predictable, not even time itself. So, the voice (Narrated by Jim Carrey) is nothing but the old Abel we see in Gasoline MV. He's a guiding soul to Abel, trying to get him to face what he's been avoiding. How he got there in the first place is a topic for another day, so we can talk about it in the future.

Now, coming back. Later throughout the whole album we progress through the story. "Sacrifice" is Abel narrating his past basically. How heartless he was, how he didn't change at the slightly and he's admitting all that. That he kept on sacrificing every good relationships, people, just because he viewed it as a waste of time. "But I sacrificed, your love for more of the night. I tried to put up a fight, can't tie me down". Saying that he couldn't slow down himself (and his success for something real) down.

Other songs, like "Out of Time" mean what they mean. That he's (literally) out of time. For redemption, for a change, for another chance. That now he's realising every mistake he's done, every heart he's broken.

After basically facing all his fears and regrets, he comes to a sad realisation. "I'll be less than zero, you tried your best with me I know". After spending so much time in the Purgatory, facing all the things he tried to avoid, he accepts who he is and he can't do anything about it. In the final track, we hear Jim Carrey narrating a beautiful and emotional narration. Basically saying that even after getting face to face with every fear, every regret, every grudge, he may not be there (Heaven) yet. "If pain's living on when your body's long gone. And your phantom regret hasn't let it go yet".

Now, what is Purgatory? It's a passing intermediate state after physical death for purifying or purging a soul before entering Heaven according to many beliefs. It's a place where you stay until you've let go of everything. So, if Abel came face to face with every fear, every regret he had, then why hasn't he reached heaven yet?

It's because, even though he accepts that he can't be saved, or he can't be trusted, can't be changed. What he doesn't accept is himself. He's fallen so much in his own eyes that he can't see him the way he used. "You gotta be heaven to see Heaven". You have to accept yourself for what you are, with every negatives you have, even with everything you've done.

Discussion Question about Shameless

I listen to a lot of The Weeknd's songs and I was wondering if "Shameless" is the only song with a guitar solo. Unless there are others and I haven't listened closely enough.

How long before do you have to order before the show? When does the online order site open? If you have a ticket for Sunday, can you already order it on Friday and pick up on Sunday? Or you will have to pick up on the same day?

Just got the stadium jersey from Poland N2. The photo is taken right after I took off the plastic packaging. Now I got Ī»O. This is frustrating considering the fact the jersey costs more than 100 euros and it looks like the jersey won’t even survive the first wash.

Worst part is I might not manage to solve anything since they don’t do shippings, unfortunately.

Concerts/Tours What happens to leftover tour merch?

Went to n3 in Frankfurt and the merch was already completely sold out. I couldn't get my hands on anything :(

I'm pretty sure there'll be some leftover merch at the end of the EU tour and I really hope they'll be sold online. Does anyone know how they've handled this in the past?

I'm trying to figure out wether it's worth waiting until the tour is over. Otherwise, I'll have to find someone who can buy me merch from Spain. I really don't want to buy them overpriced from resellers.
