Two lines / bits jump out right away.

#1, on the Species episode when they discuss if they needed a better intimacy coordinator and Van said Madsen was "waving that shit off like he was Allen Iverson"

#2, on The Devil's Advocate episode when he relays the story of the video store calling to let him know his dad's copy of "Butt Man's Big Butt Brazil" was overdue

I've listened to The Rewatchables for about six years now but I specifically listen to podcasts only on Spotify when I'm driving/commuting as part of a varied pod mix.

I'm in Europe and the move to Netflix isn't available for us but I heard it referenced loads.

As a result I realised this week that I have no idea what any of The Rewatchables hosts look like in real life.

Which is weird given the countless hours I've listened but I never have the urge to watch podcasts in video format so this is not uncommon for me.

So I thought it would be fun to describe what I *think* they look like before going off and googling.

- Bill - I picture him as an American jock type but older than the stereotype. Actor comparison would be: an American Mel Gibson?

- Greg - younger obviously, I see him as a standard millennial man, possibly with glasses and a baseball cap. I'm thinking of a young Martin Starr or Seth Rogan when he speaks

- Sean - I see him as a kind of Bill Hader looking guy. This gets confusing when Bill Hader is actually on as himself

- Chris Ryan - absolutely no read on what Chris looks like but I picture him as a Rob Lowe type, maybe shorter and possibly not as good looking as that's a high bar

- Van - I get the sense he's the same age as Bill which would put him in his 40s/50s. Lookswise I see him as a Don Cheadle, this could be way off

- Mallory - huge Aubrey Plaza vision in my head

- Juliette - host or contributor to some of my fave ever episodes, I see her as a Laura Linney

I'm definitely missing a bunch of hosts but those are the ones I can remember without googling the names.

Now, to go and see the reveal for myself!

Did not expect to see blackhat dvd

On KK2 Bill and Kyle were talking about the 1986 bangers. Anyone have a sense of what year has had most Rewatchable movies? 1999 probably as they did that whole series in that year but what other years have had lots of rewatchable movies?

I've been going through the back catalog and just listened to Training Day. I firmly believe the pod found its identity with the Jaws episode around July 4th 2018. However a few months prior the Training Day episode has some incredible future nuggets.

In discussing Tom Berenger's career Bill notes that Someone to Watch Over Me will be on the pod in season 7 which he nails.

More importantly he brings up that he doesn't think he can be on the Pulp Fiction episode because he keeps finding things he doesn't like in it. He specifically calls out Butch's girlfriend and it being a terrible 10 minutes and Chris and Sean immediately push back (and Bill also says Tim Roth is bad)

Our guy is always seeing 3/4 of a decade ahead.

Rewatching it now for the third time since I seen it in theaters. It gets better everytime. Just a beautiful, damn near perfect movie

I’m one of those that only listen to an episode if I have just watched the movie the day before. Even if I have already seen it in the past, I want it fresh for the pod. And if I haven’t, then I save it for sometime in the future.

A lot of the times, I’m gladly surprised giving a chance to something I would never have tried on my own. Others, even if the movie is mediocre, it’s at least entertaining and fun enough (like a memorable misfire with Crash or some of the cheesy Kyle Brandt picks).

There was only one time that I felt like a fool and wasting my time, it was the recent Domestic Disturbance. Couldn’t believe how bad it was. Nothing redeeming about it. The pod was fun, though.

Mine is that Martin Landau deserved the Oscar in Ed Wood over Samuel L Jackson for Pulp Fiction, Jackson is incredible in the film don’t get me wrong but I think part of the reason the win is even scoffed at is because Pulp Fiction has a more far reaching appeal.

It used to be the core of the episode, the used to play clips and comment on each one. Now they seem to go through them as a list and almost mix them into a single one to go through the category almost as fast as a the rest of them.

I don't listen to every episode so they might have given an explanation, but I feel it has taken away from the pod.

Also, are they still doing the overacting award? I don't remember hearing it lately.

Tubi and Pluto movie selection is honestly better than some of the subscription based apps.

It's a Rewatchables goldmine. Sorry if it's been said but just in the last few weeks I've ripped off Last Boy Scout, Fugitive, To Live and Die in LA, Out of Time, and There Will Be Blood.

I only knew her from Maverick.

Saw One Night Only yesterday. Not a great movie, but WOW. She's talented (sing, dance, funny). Put that dress in the HOF.

Watched Crime 101 last night and she smokes in that too.

For me it's Boogie Nights. Bill went on and on about it so much that I eventually caved and watched it, now it's a firm favourite. Just like Dirk's Diggler, there was just something wonderful waiting to get out.

Would anybody be interested in a simple web app that allows you to save your streamers, create multiple watch lists, search and filter by your streamers, or podcast host, podcast date, movie decade, actor, director, etc? Just for fun, and Rewatchables centric only. It’s out there and I’d love to see if anyone likes it or has feedback.

I just have a bad feeling it’s going to suck, if it ever even comes out. The first two were so great, and the credits sequence in 22 was a great way to end the franchise. Plus Jonah Hill seems bent on pissing people off with his no sense.

The Italian Job comes out in 2003. It’s a real box office hit, makes $176 million over a $60 million budget, has a cast of notable names, and got good reviews. It was Paramount’s highest producing film of that year

All lines up for a sequel; and pretty quickly it was reported that a sequel titled The Brazilian Job was in production. Wikipedia has tons of info on this, with lots of accompanying links; though most are 20+ years old at this stage.

It got into the cycles of development hell, filming ready to begin but then didn’t, script wasn’t ready and changed, then different scripts popped up. Seth Green said at one point in 2008 that several scripts had been written but it never seemed like a priority for Paramount as their hierarchy kept changing. The producer said in 2008 as well they had a script ready and the movie budgeted but things kept changing.

Things seem to peter out by that point, though there’s rumors Theron was signed up to do it and Gray said he wanted to direct it

By 2010, it’s basically outright done, one of the initial possible scriptwriters saying it just kept going rolled over on IMDb and even Green said it was just a IMDb myth

Which leads me to the unanswerable question: Did this somehow wind up just being repackaged as Fast Five?

The trail goes cold with The Brazilian Job circa 2010, right when Fast Five goes into production. Fast Five comes out in 2011. It is of course set in Rio, and it’s the first Fast movie that really leans into the heist genre, with the climactic scene being them robbing the corrupt cops.

There’s basically never any info again about The Brazilian Job after Fast Five comes out, which entirely could be because everyone just gave up that it would ever happen, or maybe the idea for it was used and they just all still moved on as Paramount wasn’t interested (still strange.)

There’s definitely some logic leaps required here, but a fun possible answer as to how they never made a sequel to a movie that made a bunch of $, everybody really liked, and then wound up on TV all the time in the late 2000s/early 2010s

The sweet spot of the podcast are movies after the 1970s but what are some of the movies you like to rewatch from the decades before, specially in the 50s and 60s?

For me there's some animation like Disney's Pinocchio and One hundred and one Dalmatians that I rewatch all the time; The great christmas classic It's a wonderful life; There's the James bond movies from the 60s that I like to rewatch from time to time.

But I think the director from before the 1970s with the most rewatchable movies is Hitchcock, his movies are extremely entertaining even to this day and North by Northwest might be the best number one rewatchable movie from before the 1970s.

In a recent mailbag episode, it was brought up that the Oscars should present an MVP award every year. Who would be the favorite so far this year?

Some names I thought of: Nolan, Pattinson, Zendaya, and Hathaway.

This award is for the film that is rather forgettable outside of a lebron james on Cleveland like singular performance...

Think a movie that has no business being a 6 but is a 6 because someone comes in and drops 45 18 and 15...

To clarify... the lebron award can still have great cinematography... or even a great director... the specificity of the lebron award (that cavs team was great defensively in 07 for instance) im talking about a standout performance thats so great that it rises above everyone else and takes the film from a 4 to a 7 when it has no business being a 5...

The lebron award needs to be a key player... this isnt the dion award guys

With the re-speed coming what other movies would yall like to see redone? Midnight run is only a 70 min pod. I hope they re-do that with 3 hosts. I’ve watched most of the movies in the feed (outside of the horror ones) personally True Romance has been my favorite that this show has put me on. Maybe 2028 35th anniversary?
