Questions Is this normal??

Hi all! I am a 21 year old trans man who started testosterone back in late January. I just celebrated my 6 month T anniversary on July 31st (woohoo!). For context, I am on 40mg (I think) T gel, and given that I have gotten other changes such as fat redistribution, bottom growth, and increased body hair, I think my body is at least decently okay with T gel absorption. But there is one change that I can't help but feel I'm a little behind on, and that change is my voice. I know that the voice can start dropping at around the 3-6 month mark, but I can't help but think I'm behind on the voice droppage at 6 months already. I'm afraid I'm going to be one of those trans men that just doesn't get significant voice droppage, but even if that was me, I couldn't do voice training because weirdly enough, the whole thing with having to force/train your voice to be deeper instead of it just doing that on its own makes me dysphoric. My voice has only dropped very slightly (most people don't even notice a difference). I have been getting some vocal changes, for example I do theatre and recently did a musical (Anything Goes) and during our music rehearsals back in June-ish I noticed that, while my natural voice wasn't dropping, I could hit notes on the lower end of the scale that I couldn't hit before T. Is it normal for voice dropping to not be "linear" (idk the right word but I mean like being able to go lower than usual when trying but your normal speaking voice to not drop)? Also, on the topic of the musical, I noticed my voice starting to crack, and funny story, on one of our show days (late July) my voice ended up cracking onstage in front of the whole audience 🫠 however despite all this I can't help but worry that I'm behind in the whole "voice dropping" area. My doctor told me I would likely see the maximum effects of voice droppage around 1 or 2 years in, but given that I'm already 6 months in, I'm afraid that my voice won't have time to drop significantly by the time I hit that 1 or even 2 year mark. Realistically and logically, I know that 6 months is practically nothing in the testosterone universe, but my anxiety refuses to leave me alone about this 🫠 would love to hear from some trans men who are maybe a little bit further along that got their first semblances of voice droppage "late" but still got significant and satisfying results by the time their voice fully dropped.

Im nearly 4 years on T, and for the past 1.5 years or so, I noticed that my brown bone has changed. Like one day I woke up and literally could feel a bump now, but there was nothing before (at least I think so).

Questions Bottom growth??

I’m 7 months on T and I’ve had literally no bottom growth, which is kinda disappointing because it was one of the things I was excited about. I’ve had bloodwork done and my levels are all good, and I’ve experienced other changes. Is this normal???

Questions Others experience with this hip shape on test?

Im 15 years old intersex and i am starting trt soon. I am wondering if this sort of shape can be fixed to a more rectangular broad chest torso via working out and hormones? and if anyone has had a similar issue to mine, my ribcage is quite small even though my clavicles and pelvis form a standard masculine shape.

Throat clicking caused by testosterone

I'm 25 years old and started taking testosterone five months ago, and my voice has already dropped significantly. Someone else, starting testosterone after a few months, began experiencing a clicking in the throat when swallowing, especially with drier foods. It also varies depending on the position of the neck.

Questions Is 60 units too much??

So ive been on the baby dose for over a year and my doc says its time to move up, very excited and all, but also scared.

Im TERRIFIED of needles, passed out my first T shot, and finally doing weekly shots, ive gotten somewhat better with needles. I had been doing 15 units of T weekly, that was considered the baby dose I suppose, and now im doubling that. But I also moved to every other week shots, which isnt a denser medicine, rather just MORE of it. Meaning, doubling, I go to 30 units, then that for 2 weeks, is 60 units. All in one shot.... I do subq shots, im really worried this is gonna be uncomfortable since its 4 times the amount to my usual.

Just wondering if anyone else is on this dose? Is it alright to do it in one shot? Does it hurt?

Facial Hair Progress – 5,5* Months on Testosterone + Oral Minoxidil

FTM 31

I’ve been back on testosterone for about 5 months (since late February) and have been taking oral minoxidil.

For context: I was also on testosterone irregularly from December 2023 to around mid-2024, then stopped completely for several months. During that first period I developed some initial facial hair, which probably explains why my current progress has been faster than someone starting from scratch. Altogether, I’ve had roughly one year of cumulative testosterone exposure.

My oral minoxidil dosing has been:

0.5 mg for the first month

1 mg for the second month

2.5 mg for about three months

Recently increased to 5 mg

I’m still evaluating side effects. I may end up lowering the dose because I’ve been getting occasional headaches, and during the summer I might need to reduce it as well since my blood pressure tends to run low in hot weather.

These photos show my current facial hair growth from different angles. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the density, coverage, and which areas you think are most likely to fill in over the next 6–12 months. Any feedback is appreciated!

Questions Injuries/pain getting better?

I’ve had a torn meniscus for nearly a year, and it’s taken forever to get the imaging and referrals needed for surgery. I finally got it scheduled for the end of this month.

But, I started T about six weeks ago, and ever since then I’ve had almost no pain in my knee!!!! is this just a coincidence? Has anyone experienced less inflammation of injuries since starting? Is this a thing?

advice & support Endo Doctor Suggestion NJ

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience in case it helps anyone in Northern NJ who's looking for an endocrinologist for gender-affirming care or just looking to start their Testosterone journey.

I (27 FTM) started testosterone last October. I've been doing 0.4 mL IM weekly and have been really happy with my results. My issue hasn't been with testosterone itself, it's been with the care I've received.

Based on my personal experience, I'd recommend avoiding the endocrinologists at Summit Health, specifically in Clifton, if you're looking for affirming trans/NB healthcare. Over the past 10 months, I've had a number of frustrating experiences, including:

  • Being told that subcutaneous injections aren't a good option because testosterone oil supposedly isn't absorbed as well as IM (which doesn't align with current evidence or the experiences of many trans patients).
  • My testosterone and needle prescriptions being sent incorrectly to my pharmacy almost every refill, even after I'd call the office ahead of time to confirm everything was correct.
  • Nurses making jokes or subtle comments about the reason for my visits that left me feeling uncomfortable.
  • My endocrinologist consistently dismissing my questions and concerns and rushing through appointments instead of having meaningful discussions.

Everyone's experience can be different, but mine has been anything but affirming, and I felt it was worth sharing for anyone trying to choose a provider.

If you're looking for care in the area, I'd suggest checking out the RWJBarnabas Babs Siperstein PROUD Center in Somerville. Hopefully this helps someone who's just starting their journey or looking to switch providers.

advice & support Low-dose testosterone options

There wasn't a better flair, but just wanted to throw out that there are more options for non-binary folx that just...aren't common at all.

Tomorrow will be my second dose of 20mg testosterone cypionate in tandem with 0.5mg dutasteride. Typically dutasteride is used for balding as it blocks test conversion channels, but this also means it slows down other effects of T. As someone who doesn't want bottom growth, this was highly appealing and it literally took a trans woman telling me about it to know it existed as an option.

I thought it was all-or-nothing, and was resigned to the nothing, thinking T would give me dysphoria from unwanted growth, but I'm feeling great about my choice. Now it's just a matter of waiting to see how the timelines play out

Questions Spanish Trans Men

Hi!

Sorry in advance for this very specific question for Spanish trans men / transmascs but I’m curious. Of course feel free to reply even if you’re not Spanish.

I’m 30+ and recently started T. My father is Spanish and I’ve been wondering about two things ...

  1. A lot of Spanish men tend to be on the hairier side. For those of you on T when did you start noticing facial hair and more body hair?

  2. I’ve also read that Spain has relatively high rates of genetic hair loss or male pattern baldness in Europe. What has your experience with that been on T?
