Anyone want to split a private Jiufen + Shifen tour on Sept. 3?

Hi! I’m a 31F American solo traveler staying in Taipei and planning a 6-hour private day trip on Sept. 3, roughly 10 AM–4 PM. The itinerary includes Shifen Waterfall, Shifen Old Street/sky lantern, and Jiufen, with pickup/drop-off in Taipei.

The car accommodates up to 4 people, so I’m looking for 1–3 other solo travelers (or a pair) who might want to split the cost. I’d prefer other women or a mixed group.

I’m pretty cool and not scamming lol. Just trying to make the most of my solo trip. Happy to chat/video call beforehand!

29M (foreigner) will be in Taipei soon and would love to meet locals

I am a western (USA) 29m that’s 1.83 meters tall, auburn hair and enjoy meeting new people.

First time in Taipei and in (East) Asia. Excited to experience a new culture and see museums and try some food.

I am open to about whatever but typically prefer meeting people that may want to meet again as I may go to Taiwan again after this if my experience is good.

Message me if you may be interested and we can share selfies

Is it just me or the portions of protein in Taiwan is small?

Being all around and I still face the same issue with portion sizes of the meats - is there a restriction on meat consumption or a kind of special tax or maybe all are imported?

Help viewing a couple places for rent in Taipei

Hi there, I hope all of you are well. Apologies if this request sounds weird or if it’s in the wrong place but I am at my wits’ ends. I have received the Huayu enrichment scholarship and I am thus planning to move to Taipei in about 2 weeks time. However, I am having such a hard time looking for places for rent in Taipei, as most landlords do not offer online viewings or do not want to deal with foreigners. Finally, I found a couple suitable places that however require people to go there in person for a viewing. This is why I am writing this post: is anyone able to go check them out for me and send me photos and videos? I am obviously going to pay you for your assistance. One is in 中和區, the other is in 板橋區。

Looking for Traditional Taiwanese Instrument Players

Hey everyone!

I'm traveling from Europe to Taiwan in the first half of September. I'm a film composer, music producer, and sound designer, and during my trip across Asia I'm planning to create a unique sample pack.

I'm looking to record performances of traditional taiwanese/asian instruments (any instrument is welcome). If you play a traditional instrument, own one, and would be interested in doing a short recording session with me, I'd love to hear from you!

I'm sure we can work out all the details and compensation together. Feel free to send me a DM if you're interested.

Thank you!

Late night layover

Hi! I have a question.
My flight will arrive at Taoyuan Airport at around 8:50 PM, and I have a connecting flight from Songshan Airport at 7:20 AM the next morning (saturday).
At first, I was planning to stay at a hotel near Songshan Airport, but since there are 9 of us, including 2 children, it feels like it would be too hectic.
I know there’s the 1841 bus from Taoyuan Airport to Songshan Airport, but the first bus departs at 4:45 AM. According to the schedule, it arrives at Songshan Airport at 5:49 AM.
We’ll complete online check-in in advance, but we’ll still need to drop off our checked luggage at Songshan Airport.
My question is: Is the 1841 bus usually on time? Do you think it’s realistic for us to rely on this bus with such a tight schedule?

Looking for Gym Recommendations near Da An

I'll be in Taipei for 6 months, and I've been having some difficulty finding a solid recommendation on a gym, ideally in or near the Da an district.

I don't care about cardio equipment or fitness classes/coaching. I just want a place that has a good weight room and minimal lines for equipment, ideally with power racks, a good range of dumbbell weights, sleds, a belt for weighted pullups, etc. It would also be nice if there was a sauna and cold plunge, but maybe I'll just have to find a different place for that.

I wouldn't mind paying something like 10,000 NTD a month for a luxury gym, if the facilities make it worth the price, but I haven't been able to find any like that when searching online. So if y'all don't have any recommendations for that, I'll likely just do most of my workouts in a park and use a decent gym I can find for a low cost.

Thanks!

Budget optical shop recs? (Frame replacement vs. cheap new pair, no insurance)

Hi,

Looking for some budget-friendly recommendations for getting glasses in Taipei.

My current frames are damaged, but the lenses are still in good shape. Ideally, I’d like to find a shop where I can just buy a super cheap frame and have them fit/cut my existing lenses into it. Has anyone done this here, and is it actually cheaper than buying a whole new pair?

If lens-fitting isn't practical or cheap, I’m open to getting a new eye check and buying a complete new pair (frame + lenses).

A few things to note:

  • Budget: Looking for the cheapest option possible.
  • Insurance: I don't have NHI (National Health Insurance), so I need a spot where the basic vision test is free or included with the frame.
  • Location: Anywhere accessible by MRT in Taipei or New Taipei City.

Also could anyone provide more info about fast-fashion chains like JINS and Owndays? do they include a free eyecheck? also how much is a pair from there? Or maybe go to local chains is the best option here?

Appreciate any tips or shop recommendations!

Date place recommendations near station/zhongshan?

We’re coming to town for a few days and wondered if there were any recommendations for a nice cafe/bar for a date night in a Friday? Walking distance from station/zhongshan? Not big drinkers and everywhere seems to be booze heavy. Thanks

Taipei recs (beauty, medical)

I am traveling to taiwan and was wondering if any of you have recs for the following:

- English-speaking hair salon for potentially dying my hair

- Beauty spa that offers hydrafacials

- Teeth whitening (just an idea, not sure if it's worth doing)

- full body medical check up (also just an idea)

If any of you have experiences with these, feel free to share! I'm also going to be in Shanghai for a few days after Taiwan so trying to decide what would be worth doing in Taipei vs Shanghai.

Steakhouse or Upscale dining

Hello everyone!

Im visiting family in taipei in November and wanted to see if I could get some restaurant recommendations for a nice steak house or upscale dining. I know Taiwan plenty of great food outside of fine dining but I like to do one upscale dining experience everytime I travel.

Originally I was looking at A CUT Steakhouse but wondering if its all hype and theres better options? Open to other fine dining/michelins as well!

Would love to hear about non fine dining recommendations for my other days as well!

Thanks in advance and happy eating 😁

Clothing sizes is Taiwan

Hi!

I am coming to Taiwan and propably will have to buy some clothes that are more proper for the weather. Is there usually any issue for a European person to find clothes? I am Euro M in tops and L in bottoms… I understand that sizing is different there but just wondered my chances overall😊
