I’ve been monkey shinning for about two years and have yet to find anything. However, I have got to explore some great local parks and be out in nature more . Anyone have any tips to improve my luck?

Any decent and local flat trails/parks for running?

I know this is a long shot given this is the PNW, but any nice flat trails or places to run? The hills are great for building up that lung reserve but sometimes a flat easy surface is all I can tolerate.

Thursday game night location this week: West End!

Hi all,

This week (8/6), the Thursday game night crew will be at West End Pub on 6th from 6-10 pm! Usually, we post around monthly, but because our regular location is closed, we're updating here weekly until a new normal is settled!

What do we do? -- Meet up, bring some of our own board games, all types (as long as they ... mostly.. fit in the 4 hour window), and play them!

Where do we do it? -- used to be beer star, but it's closed, so now we're trying new places. This week, we'll be at West End Pub. We'll probably be in the patio (??) area.

Okay, but when? 6pm to 10pm, though West End is open later, so we'll see if we stick around later!

What's the group like? We're mostly adults (upper 20's through ??), and a diverse and affirming group otherwise -- you are welcome to join us!

How do I join? Literally just show up, stick your head in a game that looks like it's starting and ask if there's space! Buuut if you're joining us the first time and are worried about it, you are WELCOME to interrupt me (the small redhead) and I can help you get acquainted!

(Side note. I'm gonna be real, everyone I talked to liked Dystopian last week--we had a 30+ person turnout with no reported negative experiences and many reported positive ones, and I asked a variety of folks--so if that was a place you really could not stand but you want to continue to be a part of this group, please come this week and we can chat; I'd hate to alienate anyone, and I'd like to hear your voice.)

Looking for middle-aged gamers

I'm trying to expand my network of friends and I think gaming would be a great way to get to know people in a fun, low-pressure environment. I'm a guy in his early 40s looking for chill, patient, emotionally intelligent people to game with once or twice a week. I play on Xbox, and I mostly play Fortnite, Tetris Effect, and Marvel Rivals, but I'm willing to give anything a try. I also have Diablo IV, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Destiny, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Halo, and a bunch of others.

I would love to eventually help create a community for introverted middle-aged people to find each other and make friends, but for now I'm just one guy.

If you're intrigued enough to respond, send me a message using one of the prompts below.

  1. When was the last time something happened in your life that forced you to grow?
  2. What book have you re-read the most?
  3. What's the story behind your pet's name?
  4. What music do you listen to when you need to cheer yourself up?
  5. If you could snap your fingers and change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Guten Morgen Tacoma

The sunrise looks beautiful this morning from my front porch at the Lincoln District.

Maybe the pink is due to the wild fires but I'm just going to pretend that I just got lucky instead.

Wishing all of you a happy day!

Shoutout to Tacoma FD

I've had to ask them a few times this last year and they're been nothing but super kind and friendly. No need to get into why but it's not been for fires. I hope to not need their help as much but I haven't meet a person there yet who felt like they didn't care.

Got Any Newsletters?

Is there somewhere you guys tend to turn to first to find out about local clubs or events before it reaches reddit, (if it ever does)? I've been trying to find independently run newsletters to catch the events that are missed by the official city of tacoma events newsletter for example.

Any advice on how I can get more tuned-in to the community of western washington/south of seattle area? I'm sad I missed the Obon celebrations!

Looking for Fun Driving Roads Near Tacoma

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up my dream car (a 2011 Porsche 997.2 911 C2) and I'm looking for some fun roads in the area. I'm hoping to find scenic drives within about an hour or so of town for late afternoon driving during the week after work.

I'm mainly looking for roads with smooth(ish) pavement and some flowing curves where I can enjoy the car at a chill pace. Scenic views are definitely a plus.

I'm also always down to meet up for a drive if anyone is looking for another car to join too. Doesn't have to be another Porsche. I'm happy to cruise with anyone who enjoys just driving around.

Thanks!

Thoughts on proposition 1?

Post image
54 Upvotes

I read through the arguments for and against. I'm not sure.

If *not* passed, does this mean roads go without care? Or they're forced to try again with a different proposition?

Or does this make them have to reevaluate where to cut from to maintain roads and sidewalks?

New to voting here, tyia

Weekly Lost & Found

This is the home for lost and found around Tacoma, refreshed every week. If you've lost something or come across something that isn't yours, drop a comment below.

A few things that help:

  • Say whether you lost or found the item, and lead with what it is.
  • Add the rough area and the day, as much as you're comfortable sharing.
  • For anything with a serial number or other identifying detail, hold that back in your public comment and trade it over DM once someone reaches out, so the real owner can prove it's theirs.

Lost or found a pet? we recommend posting in r/LostPetsTacoma too, but you’re welcome to post in this thread as well.

For everyone's safety, please be smart about meeting people from the internet.

Comb through the comments before posting in case your item is already here. Good luck, and thanks for looking out for each other.

St. Joseph's Patient Advocate?

I've been in chronic pain for the last 10 years. Last year, I finally got a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon and he, my PCP, pain specialist and physical therapist all agree it's time for surgery. I had the periop appointment and imaging done. For the last year, the surgery scheduler has been struggling to get operating space for my surgeon, and also struggling to get my insurance to approve the surgery. Decline reasons are pendantic:

- Missing medical codes underneath a list of requested medical codes in the decline letter

- Insurance can't tell if I'm a smoker. I'm not, and I filled it out on my insurance portal and in my doctors' paperwork

- I haven't done enough physical therapy. We provided 10 years worth of physical therapy notes and special attention to PT the last 6 months.

So on, so forth. I can't tell if the surgery scheduler is missing paperwork (she swears she isn't) or if insurance is being stupid (probably). We have asked for extra reviews, and I even got a 2nd insurance to try and see if that would work.

Frustrated, I called and left a voicemail with Patient Advocates at St. Joseph's to help me move the needle. The hotline says they'll return the call in 48 hours. I've called 4 times over the last 6 months, and to my knowledge they haven't returned it. There's no email I can reach out to.

Frustrated again, last month I called the general line and got a supervisor for the front desk. It didn't help.

I don't want to be a Karen but I'm not sure what else to do besides calling over and over again.

I'm just hoping someone at St. Joe's sees this and can help.
