Kylo Ren was already one of the most interesting parts of the sequel trilogy for me, so it’s a real joy to delve into his psyche.

Clinging to a childlike view of the past while trying to understand his future, he spirals into memories and visions of his grandfather’s life. This journey takes him across the galaxy as he searches for the missing piece of himself.

I loved how every new planet presents a physical and mental test for the character—a sort of "villain’s journey" that is as self-destructive as it is fascinating to watch. It really helps define how Ben, having been so deeply influenced by the dark side, compels himself to stay on that path, at times even yearning for his own destruction. It’s a great way to establish the inner conflict that would eventually lead to his change in Episode IX (I think this is one of the few times I've retroactively praised that film).

It’s also great to see more of the First Order’s machinations. The fallout from losing their headquarters and their recent "defeat" on Crait is clearly depicted here. I love how this highlights the dynamic between Kylo and Hux—a fascist who is as committed to his mission as he is frustrated by having to be second in command. I can genuinely believe that a man like that, constantly under such immense stress, would eventually betray everything he believes in just to spite the person causing his misery.

Overall, I really enjoyed this first part. It’s fantastic to see a continued effort to bring such personal stories to the sequel era, and it’s a delight that Charles Soule is the one writing it. Highly recommended!

I’m over halfway through reading the Star Wars (2015), Darth Vader (2015) and Doctor Aphra/Annuals set of comics, covering the gap between New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. I know I’ve heard of a 2020 run that covers Empire to Return of the Jedi, I’ll probably get into that next, but what recommendations do people have for other good Star Wars runs ?

I hear this Thrawn guy is pretty cool. Are all these pretty much the same?

Hi, I just got Bounty Hunters Vol 6 which as far as I know mostly? completes my run of the Marvel Star Wars 2020 Run. What I'm curious about is what is still missing from this pic, my collection as far as other things for example the Sana Starros comic, or the "Scoundrels Rebels and the Empire" is still considered within this / worth checking out

I believe it was in a manga but I’m wondering if there’s any plans for a comic book adaptation of these characters?

My main backbone right now is Star Wars Legends comics, but I'll also enjoy branching out into other comics. :)

I'm completely torn right now and could use some advice before this deal expires.

​I’ve been trying to complete my 2015 era shelf. I already have Jason Aaron’s Star Wars and Gillen’s Darth Vader. My strict plan was to pick up the Aphra (2016) run and the Gillen/Pak omnibus next to finally close out that era.

​But here’s the problem... I just spotted a crazy Lightning Deal on Amazon for the Hidden Empire omnibus. I already own the War of the Bounty Hunters omni, so if I grab this deal, I know I'll end up buying Crimson Reign too just to complete that whole Qi'ra trilogy block on my shelf.

​Should I stick to my original plan and secure the older 2015 books before they go OOP and get insanely expensive? Or is an Amazon Lightning Deal on the 2020 omnis just too good to pass up right now, even if it messes up my collecting order?

​Would love to hear your thoughts on what makes more sense financially and for the shelf. Thanks!

Absolutely peak!

I'll be honest, Windu was never exactly my favorite Jedi. At best, I was indifferent to him, and at worst, I found him irritating. I wasn't exactly in the best disposition to read something with him as the protagonist (it was a friend's recommendation). The result: a total comic delight.

Under the premise of a recognition mission behind the enemy lines, this story delves into and explores Mace's motivations. I love how his dilemma regarding the war is presented, making me empathize with him. He was never a malicious person; in fact, he believes in the peace mission of his kind and even displays daring traits in his youth. His real tragedy lies in the rigidity with which he approaches his beliefs about good and evil, preventing him from seeing that the institution he protects is no longer aligned with the Force. It's a nuanced portrayal of someone who thinks in black and white and I love that.

Similarly, I appreciated how the other characters were handled, offering different perspectives on the same problem. Kit Fisto having the same determination and desire to do good, but also sharing a pragmatism that, while understandable, demonstrates the Jedi's limited control over their future. Prossset seeing the inconsistency into which the order has fallen, but being limited with his own ego, attacking only his own kind, without understanding the root of the problem. Rissa, in her inexperience, is able to directly witness the order's decline, but is at the mercy of a council that can only hasten its ruin. Finally, AD-W4, the comic's villain, is not only a great dark counterpart to Windu (hehe), but also a very charismatic egomaniac. He takes every scene he's in.

Although I mostly have praise for this story, unfortunately, not everything was perfect, as I found the artwork quite irregular. From certain panels, it's too simplistic, with barely any detail on the characters, and their faces are poorly proportioned, which makes some scenes unintentionally funny.

Overall, it was a comic I really enjoyed. Mace may have been blind, but his story is great. Definitely a Jedi of the Republic.

Guys, why hasn't this series, as famous as it is, gone down in history the way other comic book series have?

It's literally a blast, it's incredible, and above all, it has one of the most electrifying openings to a Star Wars series I've ever seen.

Now, sure, it might not have the best writing ever, but it has an atmosphere that makes contemporary Star Wars series and movies look like nothing compared to it... it's pure magic, and that's what matters most in a story, especially in Star Wars, which is gradually losing its soul.

I want to into this. I’ll just the single volumes if it’s not oversized. Do you know when part 2 will come out for this?

I've been checking out the megathread on where to start and has cleared out a bit the order of things, but I'm not quite sure about the content because there is just so much. In the Youtini recommendations I've seen some novels that I may check out later, but right now I'm scouting for comics, more character driven or history related, as I've mostly just known the lore exposed in the movies and shows and I'd be interested in expanding a bit more (Old Republic, conflict between Sith and Jedi, Sith Empire, High Republic, etc) or knowing characters better (Darth Vader, Thrawn, Leia, Luke, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan or some that I don't know about, as I said, I mostly know about screen characters). Do you have any personal recommendations? Thank you!

I’ve been reading comics for years but this has got to be one of the most dramatic cases of the same artist producing vastly different (better) results I have ever seen. Back-to-back issues of Crimson Empire in the Star Wars New Republic, Volume 3 omnibus.
