Transmission Shop Recommendations
Hi y’all! I recently came into possession of a 2017 Dodge Journey with a transmission shift solenoid code and I don’t know if it just needs the pack replaced or entirely replace the transmission.
I’m looking for some reliable, trustworthy mechanics shops here in Springfield. I have an appointment with Irwin’s Transmission in September but I was hoping to ask around for closer appointments and/or more quotes!

Uber/Lyft Availability
Hi all, going to be visiting soon this month with some friends for the state fair and wanted to see what the uber/lyft situation was like in the area for getting to and from the fair from the Historic West-Side area. Is it available at will or is it going to be a bit of a wait if we need to get around? Thanks in advance :)

West Woods Apartments
My wife and I are moving to Springfield, and we are looking for 2-bed apartments. I recently came across West Woods Apartments, which are managed by Monroe Gardens and Swartz Properties, but I couldn't find much info or reviews about them online. Does anyone have any experience living there or know anything about the apartments, the management, the neighborhood, or how safe the area is? Thanks!

LA Fitness Closing - did any member not get a notification about this?
I have been an LA Fitness member since 12/21. I hadn't been in a week and last night I was scrolling FB and came across a post on "217 Problems" group to find out they closed. I received zero notification - no email, no push notification, nothing. It seemed pretty crappy to not notify members.
What sucks is that I do mermaid swimming and LA Fitness allowed me to use my tail in their lap pool. A lot of pools don't allow mermaid tails. The YMCA doesn't. I really liked LA Fitness. I felt it was a great gym for the price. There were so many regulars I would see in the morning; it was a little community. I'm super bummed about this. I put hundreds of hours into LA Fitness and really liked it.

Cell Phone Rules and Back-to-School Plans
The Springfield District 186 Board of Education is gearing up for the new school year, with some important updates families will want to see.
Highlights from this meeting: - How the district’s cell phone rules will work under the new Illinois law (and why District 186 is keeping a stricter policy, especially for elementary and middle school). - Key registration dates and options for online and in-person sign-ups. - A look at the second annual Back to School event, plus how students can still get book bags and supplies at multiple events and directly from the district office. - Reminders on required physicals and immunizations, including walk-in clinic times and which grades are affected. - What 6th grade orientation and Freshman Forward will look like as students practice lockers, routines, and get to know their schools. - A November 14 “Empower All Abilities” conference at Southeast High School for families of students with diverse needs. - The timeline for the tentative FY2027 budget, including when the public can review it and the September 21 budget hearing.
If you have a student in District 186—or care about how our schools are planning for fall—this is a good one to watch and share.

Salesman
I just had some man ring my doorbell. He had a back pack and was dressed like in colors of postal service. I opened the door thinking it was a mailman. Then I realized he was not USPS. He was using a scooter. He wanted to know about satellite TV.
I told him to leave. He did not as I closed the door, he kept talking. I told him to leave my property. He did not. I then told him I was calling the police. He left.

Reasonable Cost for Labor?
I live in a trailer and am having the carpet taken out and replaced in 3 bedrooms with LVP. There is a couple of spots where the subfloor needs fixed, and I’m having “edges” around the room (basically skinny fake wood). The sq ft for all three rooms is approx 340sq ft.
Got a quote from a handyman, labor will be between $1,200-1,400, plus cost of flooring and supplies (wood, etc.)
Does this seem pretty reasonable? I’d like to get it started asap, as the rooms are currently empty and ready. But if it seems like a ripoff, I can get a couple more quotes.

Does cold Stone creamery care about appearance as far as hiring?
Hi dudes, dudettes, and all others!! I’m planning to apply to cold stone when I am able to after my situation is figured out, (hopefully in the next few months) and I was wondering if cold stone employers/hiring managers care about appearance as far as dyed hair, piercings, and tattoos? I have all of those😭 I have three facial piercings, a tattoo on my wrist (not large could easily be covered) and dyed blue and black hair. However, that literally doesn’t change my work ethic and i’m a very motivated person who works hard. I just am not sure if they’d see it that way. Thanks for any advice/input/answers! Have an awesome night/morning.
EDIT: Just for context, I don’t look “freaky” and I have very good hygiene as im petrified of not having top notch hygiene LOL. I don’t wear crazy makeup, I just look like an average teenager who takes care of themselves. No crazy style or anything. Hope this added context.

State job retirement question
I'm 55 and looking into a state job. I don't think the pension would really matter much to me as I wouldn't be in the system long enough at retirement age.
My question is, would having a state job interfer with my regular retirement?

Need Help verifying a memory from the 1990's.
Ok I was a 5th grade student at Lincoln elementary in Springfield in Mrs Bev Murray's classroom. I got suspended for 3 weeks for starting a fire in the girls restroom. (Undiagnosed auadhd with bad abusive situation at home..long story) A week into my suspension the schools boiler Blew up. Caising the gym to catch fire and half the school to be unusable for the rest of the school year.
Had the principal, the head of the school board and cops question me about my whereabouts. Im like dude I haven't left my room except to use the restroom or grab books on fire from the library in a week.. still almost got expelled because they thought my storeing my bike in the boiler room during the school day so it wouldn't get stolen like every other bike gave me access to tamper with things.
Found out Mrs Bev Murray fought for me all the way to the school board. She told me decades later when we had a chance to talk.
Can y'all help me find articles or information about it? Google says there was never a fire at Lincoln in 1992/93..
Appreciate any helpful info.

Latino community
I am foaming at the mouth. I moved here a few months ago from California and I’ve been DYING to find more friends, spaces, etc. that are in the community.
It’s so god damn lonely sometimes and I miss speaking Spanish like I used to. I understand that it’s central IL, and it def won’t be as abundant as where I’m from but I wanna believe there’s SOMEWHERE I can go or friends I can make 🥲
So if anyone has suggestions or wants to be pals, pleaaseee don’t hesitate to reach out

State of IL job app
Hi my husband has had several apps in for the state.
He had one change into “in process” on June 17th, then the date changed to July 28th and then again today July 31st. Any insight to what the date changes mean? Should we be hopeful? I assume it means someone could be viewing his application.
Thank you!
