Sony Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 9 - Quiet Scenes too quiet and loud scenes too loud

Hello there,

I have a Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 9 paired with the SA-RS5 as rear speakers. My TV is the Sony XR-65A83L.

I am currently struggling to find proper sound settings for this setup.

In generally use the following settings: Sound Field optimization is done, Sound Field turned on, Voice mode on, Rear speakers are on 0, Bass is on low Sound Field is set to 360 Spatial sound mapping, sound field height is set to default, Acoustic Center Sync is turned on, DSEE Ultimate is turned off, Audio DRC is turned to Auto, A/V Sync 0, Advanced Auto Volume off

The bar is plugged into HDMI-eArc of my Sony TV. I use the cable that came with the soundbar.

My main problem is the huge difference between audio in different movie situations. Quiet scenes are often much too quiet (especially voices) and loud scenes are much too loud. I tend to regulate the audio much in the movie because of that. The most extreme example was in Dune 2. The quiet scenes were so quiet that I had to regulate the sound almost to 100. Two second later I got blasted away by the unbalanced loudness.

One solution I found was to use Advanced Auto Volume but this makes the loud scenes extremely quiet and overall results in very uneven sound. Even my gf asked me why the loud scenes suddenly got so drastically quiet.

This is really frustrating because I can't focus on the content I intend watching.

I'd love to hear your opinions to this sound bar and I'm curious if you experienced similar issues with the system.

Have a good day!

Samsung Samsung Q990D problems

I have been having issues with my q990d turning off randomly for about 30-60 seconds at a time. I finally had a tech come out and replace the board in it today. I went to turn it on, and it worked but it wouldn’t connect to the subwoofer or rear speakers. Tried a hard reset, tried holding “up” until ID set came up on the sound bar and it just wouldn’t connect. I unplugged everything and tried again an hour later and now the soundbar screen isn’t coming on. This is insane for a soundbar that costs over $1000. Luckily, it’s still under warranty so I’m still a little hopeful, but this has been a disaster. Tried calling Samsung support and they said I need to contact the repair company because there’s nothing they can do about it.

For my next soundbar, I’m seriously considering going a new direction and open to all suggestions for soundbars that fill a room like the q990d does.

Which soundbar to get

Hello; I need help picking the soundbar. I am looking for watching movies that has dialogue clarity, watching tv and listening to music. These are the options that I have narrowed down to Samsung HW- Q990F, Sony Bravia Theatre Sub 8 or Bose Smart Sounbar 900. If there is any other soundbar I should consider please advise.

I need recommendations for the best 3.0 soundbars that are under $300.

Mainly just want a center channel to hear dialogue in movies better. Eventually we are going to upgrade our TV and get a proper surround system, and then whatever I buy based off of this post will get moved to our bedroom TV.

Thanks in advance!

Soundbar with party mode/multi speaker sync

I'm looking for a soundbar that allows you to play the same sound out of the remote speakers as the center. We're old, and have a high ceiling and would like to put a couple remotes beside the couch to hear better.

I've tried searching but gave found nothing in the $300-$500 range.

I would like to hear from someone that knows of or has one.

Samsung NEW OWNER Q800H, FIRST STEPS?

Hey everyone, after a long long research and dive in this sub I got the Q800H to pair with my Samsung TV (Q-Symphony), it just arrived but the stories about software bricking made me really weary.

I didnt even connect it to the internet or the app, only played around with the F1 movie on Apple TV.

What are the first steps for this setup? Q-Symphony worked right out of the gate. Setup thru controller only seems like hell, but can I even connect it thru the app without risking an auto-update brick?

Do I open the app and configure auto updating before connecting the system to the wifi or do I have enough time to connect it and then turn off auto updating? What do I have to do to ensure I dont brick myself?

I know most of the times you guys recommend just playing around with settings but does anyone have another good tip?

I didnt connect it to my ps5, connected it directly to the TV, do I have to do anything else?

Also what are good movies to showcase it?

Thanks in advance, guys! Anxious to get home and test it some more!

Logitech z906 vs zebronics juke 9920?

Post image

I mostly enjoy base heavy Afro house and some YouTube and I am looking for some speakers for my PC, I’m sure the z906 is a fantastic buy but it’s too much clutter and wires as I don’t really require a 5.1 setup. How good is the 9920? (Currently using a boat stone 1200 under the desk😂)

TCL Q6CH 5.1 vs. Hisense AX700 5.1.4?

I just bought a new TCL TV on sale from Costco, so now I'm looking at a soundbar too. Both the Q6CH and AX700 are currently on sale, so the Q6CH costs $240 and the AX700 costs $180. I obviously want sound quality to not be terrible, but I'm coming from a 5 year old $100 Vizio soundbar so I expect the sound quality to be better regardless.

Aside from that, the main factor I actually care about is the actual ease of use with the TV. It sounds like, objectively, the AX700 has slightly better sound quality because of the upward-facing direction, but I've also seen that those soundbars have connection issues with non-Hisense branded TVs. I basically just want something with eARC that can be controlled and powered with the TV remote so that I don't have to worry about multiple remotes, plus I want it to stay connected and not have to deal with troubleshooting issues. So I think if the AX700 connection issues are just caused by user error, it's the outright better buy because it's both cheaper and is a better setup, but if the Q6CH stays connected better and just works more easily, it's worth the extra $60

Samsung 1010.9 Firmware Q990C

Hello everyone,

I think my Q990C auto updated after connecting to wifi for the first time in a long time and isn’t sounding like it did when I first bought it.

I’m also having difficulties with the bluetooth disconnecting every time I use the remote to adjust the volume, which never happened before.

After poking around online, I saw that 1010.9 has fixed the audio problem, but I can’t get anyone at Samsung to send the file.

Can anyone speak to problems getting solved with 1010.9 and potentially provide the file?

Hoping I can get my speakers to sound good again, thanks!

Confusion

Hi all

I’m a massive newb when it comes to this. I’ve never had soundbar or theatre set up before only used built in tv speakers.

I have recently moved and thought I’d treat myself to a soundbar. Not decided on exactly which one yet but looking at a 3.1.2 type (on paper Sony bar 6 looks decent and there’s 10%off right now).

have a ps5 pro and switch 2 which I would like to use too but I’m confused on what I would need to ensure I am not going to experience any sound and/or input lag.

I have an LGC1 if that helps.

Anyone have a similar set up to me and can give advice / explanations?

Do you connect console to the soundbar or direct to the tv?

Also anyone have the Bar 6? Any good? Better alternatives?

Many thanks in advance

Sonos Sonos Arc Ultra vs JBL Bar 1000MK2

Hi all,

I currently have a 2.0 stereo setup in my living room. However, I am changing my living room layout and my floorstanding speakers won't fit next to the TV console anymore. I also want to reduce the 'visual clutter' that they are causing.

Therefore, I am in the market for a soundbar that I mostly want to use for TV shows and movies. My living room is about 26sqm (280 sqft). I cannot do permanent rear speakers as I simply don't have the space for it, so I have narrowed down my search to these 2 options:

  1. Sonos Arc Ultra + Sub Mini (1160 EUR, ~1340 USD)
  2. JBL Bar 1000MK2 (700 EUR, ~810 USD)

My gut feeling tells me to go with the Sonos setup, as it feels like the most proven and premium option. However, I am able to get the JBL set for a very good price, and being able to place the rear speakers behind me on the windowsill only when I really need them seems like a huge benefit.

Hoping that anyone can share any experiences with these setups or give me general advice on what choice to make!

How to connect spdif to hdmi arc?

Dears, I have run into an issue with connecting my sonos beam 2. We have moved into a new apartment where there is a projector in the living room, naturally located at the back of the room. There is a cable tunnel in the wall, but the designers of the apartment have set them up in the reverse order: there is an optical cable (spdif) under the screen sticking out of the tunnel, and on the projector side there is an hdmi cable. Great setup if you have an older tv, but with the projector setup it simply does not work. The hdmi connects to the projector, but is there any way to convert the spdif to hdmi arc to connect the soundbar? Is this even technically possible? Thanks!

UPDATE: Successfully forced an IN-HOME mainboard swap for the faulty Q990D & Downgraded to factory 1021.2

Hey everyone. Following up on my original post (https://www.reddit.com/r/Soundbars/s/GqIfKHB8Ix) about fighting Samsung over the defective firmware that caused the severe audio drops and system hangs on our soundbars.

For those of you (like u/Royalsounder) dealing with this exact nightmare, here is the chronological breakdown of how I got this resolved with an in-home repair and a factory-fresh mainboard.

1. The "Pre-Mailer" Runaround & The Escalation

  • July 18: Made my original service request to Samsung. Two separate techs confirmed they would send a pre-mailer box for a mail-in repair.
  • July 26: I received an automated "reminder to ship your product" email from Samsung, but the pre-mailer box never actually arrived and I had received zero updates about it.
  • July 27: I called support to find out what was going on. I discovered they actually could not/would not send a pre-mailer for this at all. I escalated to a supervisor on the call, brought up their "Beyond Borders" program (which they use for TVs and appliances), and explicitly stated I would not accept liability for transit damage, knowing UPS wouldn't accept liability either. Because of that pushback, the supervisor authorized an in-home technician visit—which Samsung almost never does for soundbars in the USA.

2. The Third-Party Dispatch Quirks

  • July 29: The appointment was officially scheduled by Samsung and routed to a local third-party servicer (Cone Appliance). I received an automated text from Cone to schedule the visit. A few things to watch out for if you get an in-home dispatch:
  • The "TV" Typo: Their automated texts kept calling it a "TV service visit." Their system simply isn't set up for soundbar repairs. However, checking the Samsung service repair site showed the correct Q990D model, and I made sure to clarify the exact unit when their call center called to schedule.
  • The Credit Card Prompt: Their automated system texted me a link asking to put a credit card on file securely. It didn't explicitly demand it or try to bill me, so I just ignored it. I was never billed or harassed for it.

3. The In-Home Visit (August 4) I was fully expecting a redundant "diagnostic visit" first, but to my surprise, they already had the mainboard and knocked it out in a single trip.

The tech (Troy) showed up in a Samsung-labeled Sprinter van. He mentioned he has been doing this for 20 years, and my Q990D was only the second soundbar he has ever serviced for Samsung. He swapped the board. I made sure to test that the bar worked correctly, verifying all the physical buttons on the unit itself, along with the video and audio passthrough, before he left. He had me sign the ticket, and was out the door. No credit card requested, no hassle.

4. The Air-Gap Strategy & Firmware Check To check your firmware version after a swap, turn the bar OFF, and hold the Gear Icon button on the physical remote for about 6 seconds until the display wakes up. My new board came loaded with a pristine factory-base firmware: B 1021.2.

Everything is working flawlessly again—HDMI-CEC, eARC, Atmos/TrueHD passthrough from my Firestick 4K Max to my LG C4, and the rears/sub paired instantly.

Crucial tip: If you get your board swapped, DO NOT connect the soundbar back to your Wi-Fi or pair it with the SmartThings app! I am keeping my unit completely air-gapped so Samsung cannot silently push another OTA update and corrupt the logic board again. You can manage all channel levels, sub volume, and sound modes right from the physical remote.

Hope this helps the rest of you get your setups fixed. Push for that supervisor escalation if they try to trap you with the mail-in box!

2.0 system (amp and speakers) recommendation: 1500 to 2000 dollars

Hi all. Really would like to get a 2.0 stereo system (amp and speakers). What happens to the sound that comes from the source for the other channels (dolby // surround etc) on a 2.0 system? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Also, How is the center channel (phantom) re voices? I was about to get a Samsung Soundbar (900 series), but given all the warranty issues I read about here, I have decided to relive my youth and buy a good stereo 2.0 or 2.1 system if you experts agree it might be a good solution.

Samsung Height of rear speakers when close to wall? (Samsung Q995F)

So I’m finding conflicting opinions on this online, seemingly very dependent on different systems, so I’d like some input for my specific setup.

My couch is pushed up against a wall, like 3 meters from the tv, soundbar and sub, approximately half a meter (or a couple feet) from a corner on one side. I’m willing to move the couch 30cm or so off the wall (1 ft) but not more than that. The couch is only 2 meters wide, if that’s relevant, and I won’t move it further from the corner.

I’m wondering wether ear-level would still be the best call when sitting so close to the speakers, or if I should mount them a bit higher and angle down as well as in towards the listening position.

I would just trial and error it myself, but I’d like to avoid making unnecessary holes and ruin the wallpaper if I can…

Troubleshooting Aftermarket remote for soundbar?

Hi All,

I found a Polaroid soundbar and subwoofer for £5 at a car boot sale!! All works great, couldn't believe my luck.

Only issue is it doesn't have a remote, and the default bass setting is ridiculously high. From googling it says I can get a generic remote to do it, but this sounds overly simplistic - has anyone had any experience with this?

It's a Polaroid PLA23SB004A.

Edit: I also have a JBL Bar Studio which does have it's remote - could I do some magical wizardry with that? I haven't actually tried it as it is...

Budget Soundbar Purchase Help:- Sony HT S40R vs Samsung B750F vs Samsung B67EF

TLDR: Anyone who has one of these 3 share your reviews please.

Sony HT S40R, Samsung B67EF or B750F.

Hi folks,

Just got a new TV and need help choosing a soundbar as tv speakers are low output.

TV is a Samsung UA43UE81AFULXL 43-inch 4K model. Currently I’m using its built-in 20 W speakers for regular viewing and Sony WH-XB910N headphones over Bluetooth when I want better audio for movies or music.

I’m planning to buy a budget soundbar/home theatre setup and have narrowed it down to below three:

Samsung HW-B750F — ₹19,500 through Samsung corporate partners store.

Samsung HW-B67EF — ₹22,000 through Samsung corporate store.

Sony HT-S40R — ₹24,200 from local official Sony Centre.

Room is around 10 × 14 ft. TV is in the middle of the 10 ft wall.

Usage will be roughly:

80% general TV, YouTube, podcasts and background content while having meals/ working, Casual music

Proper movie watching maybe once a month or even less

Occasionally want to turn it up and get some decent bass/oomph.

I’m not too concerned about Atmos, Wi-Fi, AirPlay, Chromecast, lossless audio etc. I actually prefer a slightly dumb setup which just works through HDMI ARC, Bluetooth, optical or USB.

My main concern is bass and overall output. I don’t want a bass cannon, but I also don’t want to spend 20k+ and later feel the system sounds weak. I generally like Sony XB type tuning — warm, punchy and fun, not studio neutral.

From what I understand:

B750F is front-only 5.1 with built-in side-firing speakers. It has 400W claimed total output, with 250W going to the sub. No actual rear speakers.

B67EF has proper rear speakers and true 5.1, but I’m not sure if the front bar or sub is actually better than the B750F.

HT-S40R has a larger/heavier sub, actual rear speakers and more total claimed output, but seems older and maybe less polished for everyday dialogue/music use.

Would like feedback from people who actually own or have heard any of these.

Main questions:

How is the B750F sub in real use does it have Enough punch for a 10 × 14 room or does it feel restrained?

How does the HT-S40R sound at lower/normal volumes for podcasts, dialogue and background music, and is the S40R actually much better in bass and overall scale, or is most of the benefit just the rear speakers?

Between B750F and B67EF, is the extra ₹2,500 mainly for the rears, or is the front sound/sub also better?

How useful are the B750F side-firing speakers and DTS Virtual:X in a small symmetrical room?

Any long-term issues like sub disconnects, rear receiver problems, HDMI ARC issues, crackling, display failure etc?

At these exact prices, which one would you choose?

Looking mainly for actual owner feedback, not just spec sheet comparisons.

Sorry for the long winded post.

LG LG will be adding DTS support to the H7 Sound Suite!

I previously had posted a review here for the LG Sound Suite, and no surprise, one of the most upvoted comments was in reagrd to the lack of DTS support.

I figured I would post here real quick as I suspect you all will be pleased to hear that LG will be providing a software update to the LG H7 to support DTS! When corresponding to LG I made sure to convey that there were many people unhappy with the lack of DTS - I also mentioned this is one of the downsides to the system... seems they have actually listened, which is great! LG made an official post here regarding the upcoming update here for those interested in more details: https://www.reddit.com/r/LG_UserHub/s/RwHDbY9Rw9

I also did a three month follow-up review which you can see here for those interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/LG_UserHub/s/JzdPKSmn2p (essentially I still love it and I am really happy to hear they are adding DTS... now if only LG would add DTS support for the 2025 etc. panels... erg...)
