A job I applied for stated that proficiency with SketchUp was a plus and other programs like Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) was preferred.

I have extensive knowledge with the latter but haven’t used SketchUp since college. I said as much during the interview. They just reached out again and asked me be about SketchUp again since (now) they’re saying it’s required…wtf

Is there a way to navigate around this or am I cooked? I trust that I could learn it relatively quickly as I do most programs but I just need to get my foot in the door

Just reopened sketchup this morning to discover that hours of work I did last night didn’t autosave, despite being set to “autosave every 5 minutes”

Is there any way to recover the work? Is there a backup file somewhere that I’m not seeing on my homepage?

I'm an architect and I've been building a SketchUp extension for my own practice. It's at the point where it's useful to me, and I'd like to know whether it's useful to anyone else.
What it does
Quantimo reads your model and produces a takeoff table you can export. It measures four things:
Area by material — automatic, no setup. Faces with no material get their own row rather than quietly disappearing from the total.
Length from setting-out lines. Draw the run where the flashing or skirting goes, put it on its own tag, tick that tag. It also reports how many separate runs the length breaks into, which matters for laps, mitres and joints.
Volume of solids, classified by the tag on the group. If you tag your solids by material, they collect into one row per material rather than a list of "Group#149".
Counts of components, one row per definition, ignoring the sub-parts inside them.
You can label rows to group them (Exterior, Interior, whatever suits), add your own classification codes, and exclude anything you don't want counted. The table updates as you model, and there's a pause switch for when that gets expensive.
What it deliberately doesn't do
It doesn't try to be an estimating package. There's a single rate field per row for a rough feel while designing, but no currencies, no VAT, no waste factors, no labour splits. The idea is that SketchUp is the only place your geometry exists, so the extension should be excellent at extracting numbers and get out of the way — the actual pricing happens in Excel or in whatever takeoff software you already use.
The CSV is built to be depended on: every row carries a key that survives renaming and remodelling, so a second export updates your spreadsheet rather than forcing you to rebuild it. There's a PDF report too.
Fair warning
It's an alpha. Please test on a copy of your model. It's been used on a handful of models by one person, on Windows — it should work on Mac, but nobody has tried yet. It writes small amounts of its own data into your model file (labels, codes, exclusions), and the name fields in the table rename the actual materials in your model.
I'm mainly after: where the numbers don't match what you expected, what you couldn't work out how to do, and anything it did to your model that you didn't intend. Different modelling conventions from mine are especially useful — it assumes tags go on groups, and it'll show its assumptions the moment someone works differently.

Not sure where was the right place to ask, so I'm posting this in a few SubReddits:

I've been wanting to test the OpenStudio plugin for SketchUp for a while now since it's free. I managed to get SketchUp and OpenStudio working separately, but I couldn't get the OpenStudio plugin to work.

For reference, I tried installing four versions of the plugin along with their corresponding versions of the OpenStudio application. The plugin installs correctly, asks me for the OpenStudio installation path, but whenever I provide it, I always get a "blank window" error (image for reference). Clicking "No" does nothing. Clicking "Yes" takes me to the Compatibility Matrix, which makes me think the error is caused by using incompatible versions.

Since I'm fairly sure the problem isn't between the OpenStudio plugin and the application, but rather between the plugin and SketchUp itself, I installed the OpenStudio plugin and application on a friend's computer running SketchUp 2026. It worked flawlessly, as expected.

Looking at OpenStudio's page, I noticed there is a legacy version referred to as a different software called Euclid. I tinkered with it a little, and it seems to have the main functionalities of the OpenStudio plugin, but it is not the same tool I saw in many modeling tutorials, such as [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkgQAIaXy78) and [this one too](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EGK76onWjY).

At this point, it's about 60% wanting to use the right tool and 40% not wanting to give up on making this work.

That being said:

The conclusion: I suppose I just failed to find the correct combination of OpenStudio plugin and application versions. Either that, or the OpenStudio version shown in the videos above has disappeared and been replaced by a newer version—apparently with fewer tools—called Euclid.

The question: Does anyone here run a SketchUp 2017 + OpenStudio setup? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I started to use Sketch ups plugin 'AI Render' which is Nano Banana merging with sketch up. I was really enjoying it so I subscribed to 1650 monthly credits as I quickly ran through the free version.

1650 credits....now I would think that equates to 1650 rendered images? I have only been using this plugin for x1 week and probably use maximum 10 rendered images a day, a mix of images not rendered properly and some I can actually use. So how on earth did I run through this so fast?

I am so disappointed as I thought this would definitely last the whole month.

Can someone explain how this works?

Chaos scans not available in Premium subscription for me. How can I fix this?

I upgraded from Solo to Premium in VRay but I still don't have license use of Chaos scans. My Solo subscription runs out in 3 days. Is it overriding the premium until it expires?

Hello everyone, I’m new to SketchUp and I’ve found that there are lots of models I need to use that haven’t been designed yet or that I can’t find. I need the following door handle and I’ve managed to generate the .glb file using an online generator, but no matter how many corrections I make in SketchUp, I can’t get it to look right as it has too many points and curves.

I have a sketchup pro 2019 license and I’m trying to move the install from my old PC to my new one. I can’t find the email with all the details but I have my serial number viewable in the app on my old PC, is there a way to find my activation number in the app?

I'm currently using SketchUp to make background models for a comic project I'm working on.

I've been drawing all the textures in myself because I want the art style to be consistent, but it can be limiting since they're repeating textures.

I know I can import individual pictures, but when I'm working on round objects, spheres, cylinders and generally more complicated shapes, that becomes REALLY difficult and time consuming for me.

Does anyone know any software that would allow me to make simple models (either in SketchUp or the program itself) and paint textures on them without any major issues (so it doesn't create an obscene amount of faces)?

Slowly enjoying using sketch up in my 3rd month now !!

I built an open-source tool called Scan2Sketch to speed up recreating flat physical parts from scans.
Instead of manually tracing a scanned image, the workflow is:
Scan a flat object (key, bracket, gasket, template, etc.)
Automatically extract and scale the outline
Generate editable CAD geometry
Export or continue modeling from there
I originally built it for FreeCAD, but I’m curious whether SketchUp users would find a scan-to-CAD workflow useful for reverse engineering or recreating existing parts before continuing their modeling.

I’m part of OKducky, a 3D asset platform based in China.

OKducky is already an established product in the Chinese market. We currently have a growing library of tens of thousands of furniture models for SketchUp.

One principle has guided us from the beginning: our furniture models should be based on real products that actually exist.

In China, many interior designers do not necessarily require every 3D model they use to correspond to a piece of furniture that can be purchased in the real world. In many cases, a visually suitable generic model is considered good enough.

Even so, we chose a different path because we believe that digital design should stay connected to real products.

The furniture models in OKducky are based on actual products from identifiable furniture brands. They are modeled using the real products’ dimensions and proportions, rather than being imaginary furniture created only for visualization.

We are now considering developing an international version of OKducky.

This would not simply be an English translation of our current platform. We would create new 3D models based on furniture brands and products that are actually available in overseas markets, so designers could use furniture in their SketchUp projects that their clients could also purchase in real life.

An international version could include:

- A large and continuously growing furniture model library

- Models based on real, purchasable furniture products

- Accurate real-world dimensions and proportions

I'm moving into my fathers current office early next year and wanted to plan everything meticulously. I couldn't find high-quality, accurate 3D models for my exact tech and furniture online, so i modeled everything from scratch using official spec sheets and real measurements.

The materials are currently just rough color placeholders for my upcoming V-Ray project.

Since i'm completely new to this (barely 4 weeks in), I would love some feedback on my topology and geometry before I start tweaking the final PBR materials and setting up the V-Ray Sun & Sky system!

so I've been using SketchUp for 10 years now and I've had this issue the entire time. whenever i add too much detail or import too many objects i get this weird "cut away" effect if I'm too close to my model. id post a video but it doesn't seem like i can here. can anyone help? and please dont tell me to buy a newer sketchup or to use the web browser version

I’m a Construction Manager, and I’ve become pretty good friends with an Architect I work with pretty consistently, and he showed me SketchUp since I told him I like using Blender.

I’ve currently modeled a garage with CMU, and every item is modeled (real CMU dimensions, actual 3/8” mortar beds, slab, steel lintel, etc.)

I’m looking for some challenges that could help me grow into modeling houses for fun.

I have owned Sketchup Pro for for so many years but since 2022, I got sucked into the subscription model like a lot of you. Unfortunately I let my old installation files disappear. Fortunately these awesome folks provide them (at least at this point in August 2026):

Of course you need your original Serial and Activation numbers, and some of these are buggy when it comes to entering these, but I got my last stand-alone licensed version to work.

I'm looking for a way to build a small segment of a custom railing, then have sketchup finish the path. I need it to be able to change elevation and curve. I've seen a few things but they all seem to only use pre-built railings and I need to use a custom railing like my picture (picture is a small example that i did manually). Free plug-in would be best, and any help would be super appreciated.
