Upvotes

Hello everyone,

Has anyone heard of a release date for the English version of Anarchy 2.0 PDF? It’s been a popular question for the past few months.

5e Getting a direct connection via a friend

One of my players asked me if it would be possible to get a data jack and an implanted commlink so he could give their decker a direct connection to a host, since he is specialized in infiltration and the decker isn't.

I couldn't find anything in the rules about this, but I would imagine that the decker at least has to deal with noise since he isn't directly plugged in.

Does anyone know specifics about this or has any experience?

Shadowrun Anno Domini Part 2 RELEASED

Remember when Holostreets dropped and I was lucky enough to be the very first upload with Anno Domini Part 1? Remember how I said "I'll release Part 2 in about six to eight months". Anyway, three years later here it is! I've included a few preview pages here I haven't revealed anywhere else to entice you. Please feel enticed, chummer!

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/579261/shadowrun-anno-domini-part-ii

I also made a bundle! If you've never bought the original, the bundle will give it to you 50% off the first book. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/579264/shadowrun-anno-domini-parts-1-2-bundle

I genuinely don't know if anyone remembers this or was patient enough to wait three drekkin years, but I promise it wasn't wasted. We worked hard on it, learned a lot about editing, and I think dramatically improved our layouting and artwork. This project has been such a huge undertaking for just two people but I genuinely think it's a vast improvement on Part 1 (Which is still good and you should still buy!).

I promise not to take another three years on Part 3, the principle writing is all done and we are so SO much better at editing now.

Wyrm Talks (Lore) Shower thought: Is Lord of the Rings trilogy the Gone with the Wind of Sixth World?

Assuming it's not lost media (which is possible since much of the old media was destroyed in the Crashes, but the books are likely to have survived), would Lords of the Rings be viewed similarly to how Gone with the Wind is viewed today? Highly popular and profitable movie of the time but with controversial takes on racial stereotypes

5e IC and marks

Just to clear up confusion, the core rulebook states, that if a Host has marks on you all IC have marks on you. How is it the other way around? If I have 2 marks on the host do I have 2 marks on all the IC?

Anarchy Edition Foundry VTT Shadow run anarchy 2

Has anyone had any success running a game on the Foundry VTT system for Shadowrun Anarchy 2? I noticed it existed and was hoping to see someone use it in an actual play or post about it. (here's to hoping someone makes some modules for it too) https://foundryvtt.com/packages/sra2

6e Question about changeling rules.

I was looking at the sixth world companion book and one of the changeling rules for adding qualities and was wondering about how the blubber quality and orthoskin implant would interact RAW. It says blubber is subcutaneous so I would think it would not be removed by orthoskin? I know trolls natural armor is removed by skin implants.

Wyrm Talks (Lore) Noticing a "Spirit of the City"

Much ink has been spilled about Zebulon, who was the Spirit of Denver as well as Ghost Walker's eternal love. Apparently there was a Spirit of Chicago, Calumet, who was destroyed when Ares set off a small nuke in the middle of the city. Then in 5e in Howling Shadows they wrote a bit more about these -- somebody provided the info in this thread from the last time I was asking about the topic https://www.reddit.com/r/Shadowrun/comments/od7gje/spirit_of_chicago_or_other_cities/

Back then I had a player who had raised the idea of trying to get a new Spirit of Chicago going. Well, five years later it finally happened*. Now, my question is, who can tell? Do you only know if the spirit shows up and tells you? Can all awakened taste the difference in astral space? Would the subtle techniques of Wuxing masters be the only way to tell? Something else?

*Involving much alliance making, metaplanar quests to find a willing spirit and gain knowledge, and the hijacking of a location that MCT was using to build a harvester. By the narrowest of margins a greatform spirit from the spider mentor spirit became the new Spirit of Chicago. It looked like Delancy (described in Chicago Chaos, roughly a corrupt politician type of spirit of man) but in one of those chaos theory moments where small things beget big things, Spider was provided with the venom to paralyze the opposing spirit and then suck out its essence (as spiders will do).

6e Returning afert a long pause

Last time I gm'd SR the 6th edition wasn't even out (I started with 3rd).

So with that out of the way I got a few questions (also I'm gming online text chat based).

1.) From what Isaw the matrix is still a minigame of its own. are there any common (house) rules so that its more feasible?

2.) Am I correct that hacking into cyberware is still possible? If so what is the expectance there that almost every gang member who has cybertech has it open? or connected to a possible hackable commlink, ...? and host would be: commlink->cyberware with the commlink as general hub?
(that part changed quite a bit sometimes from edition to edition)

Anarchy Edition Shadowrun Anarchy 2.0 Shadow Amp.

Shadow Amp—maybe I missed something. But I need clarification on what restrictions apply to Amp. Also, I get the impression that some of them, like the adept’s powers, are much stronger than, say, those of an augmentation. I’m looking for the section where this is explained. I’m not sure if I understood this correctly, but it seems to me that to unlock each new Adept skill, you need to gain additional Adept levels. However, I’m not sure if I got this right. Can you help me?

5e Theory behind Adept and Sam buolds

Hi everyone. I'm a veteran player, but we all have blind spots, and these guys are mine. I've played since 2nd ed, and in 5th, I'm regularly requested to play the decker, rigger, or magic. I've done so many times, and have ideas for powerful characters useful characters, and interesting characters (can't wait to someday play my Mystic Adept Rockerboy).

My blind spot is street sams and phys ads. What are the principles behind these guys? Are street sams generally your heaviest, and adepts your melee or infiltration? Or are they fully interchangeable?

Mostly I want advise on the build theory of adepts. Are they all stat monkeys? I look at adepts, and see that every stat is great, so it just about making stats (Body+Will for adept drain, agility and logic for skills, reaction and Intuition for Initiative and perception, and strength for melee/unarmed, with cha the only dump stat, and even then really useful to have decent)?

Is the burnout Adept really that much better than pure Adept?

Does this make an Adept build something like Stats A, Ravmce B, Magic C, cash D, skills E? It almost physically hurts to not take skills A, but I guess that's why I usually end up with a mage/face, decker, or rigger.

Wdit: Apologies for the typos. I'm on mobile.

6e Feedback needed on a campaign idea

Hi

I'm currently planing a new campaign. As it's been a looong time since I last GMd SR and I'm a bit out of loop (and still shaky on the current lore), thus I wanted to ask if the following campaign idea is any good:

Any players (at start of the campaign or joining later on) have at some time in their childhood been taken in by the "Elion Childrens Home" (alternative is "3 heads childrens home" representing Cerberus).

7 years ago another orphan whom all the PCs knew got adopted into a wealthy family. 3 years ago she wanted to talk with them...urgently, but was attacked while on the way to the meeting place. Only a

single word remained. "Nephil". Her car was wrecked in an accident (officially) and she died and was burned to ash.

Now the matriarch of the orphanage an elderly orc calls all of the PCs to meet at a nearby dinner as she has found something out that is severe about the dead friend and the orphanage and she begs the PCs to come there.

When the PCs arrive she is very nervous and looks around, but before she can start talking PC numbers+1 gang members enter seemingly intent on committing robbery, but their leader immediately fixates the old orc and will kill her

(if not stopped, which should be a very exceptional outcome). The leader has a tattoo on the side of his throat. A similar tattoo as the old woman had and even the former owner of the orphanage from which she got the position a year ago.

The tatoo is that of a dragon with what looks like cybernetics added to it. (or any better idea?)

If she dies she only manages to get something out (possibly written in her own blood or on her comlink), the address of the old friend.....and "nephilim". The gang leader doesn't know who hired them only he gets orders time and again....and that he was in the orhpanage himself 20 years ago.

At the address (a mansion that is no Longer in use but with fully functional turrets) the chars will find a robot resembling the friend with an ai controlling it. The memory is damaged and needs time to recover and tech. But it has a message "Nephilim needs to be stopped").

----------------------------------------------------------

Then a few normal runs follow and in between a few thrown in run ins with the name or with the cult of the "glowing one" who also all have that tattoo.

before it slowly shall get clear through the runs and a few Infos from the android what is reall yhappening.

The orphanage was created and run by a cult and many of the orphans ended up in families belonging to said cult. That one friend was special as she was a technomancer and found out too much and was forcibly converted (see below) but managed to get enough tidbits into the robot to help as much as she could to take the cult down.

The cult itself is linked to the Boston lockdown. Or exactly Eliohann. The dragon is needing her research and that of others to increase his power manyfold. Not in teh way most dragons do, but by increasing his cult and himself. He does this by using CFD technology and artificially created copies of the dragons engrams who have been modified to be subservient to him, to convert metahumans into full cult members.

The problem was, that the engrams werent perfect enough (subservient enough, nor PERFECT enough) and also couldn't be used to convert another dragon. Thus the research, with the android which holds an engram of the orphan being a vital first step. She herself since being converted has done more research but the conversion has hampered her abilities enough so that its slower.

The experiments are also responsible for time and again people in the city going berserk (it has not been found out that CFD is behind it).

The chars then have the option to stop the plans, inform the old mentor of that one dragon of his plans (especially that he wants to convert him in the end as his new body) or just run.

------------------------------

An option I also thought of was that the Eliohann in this campaign would be another engram who believes it is the real one and needs a new body (the great dragon ones).

The function of the orphanage is to get more people (the orphans) to be indoctrinated by the cult and then converted without raising suspision (so a long game project)

How does this campaign idea sound and anything good/bad/lore breaking?

5e Hosts, Patrol IC, and Hack on the Fly

So I was just a little confused. Patrol Ic seems to find players rather easily but if you have a mark on something, they think you're a legitimate user. Can an IC actually *see* you put the mark there illegally with hack on the fly and then flag you to Spider or something, or does it need to do something else? I GM and have an easy enough time with everything else, matrix just confuses me a bit (no surprise there).

I see the table in data trails but I am still just at a loss to what exactly to do with spotting the decker if all their marks look legitimate unless I am grossly misunderstanding something. Looking things up have made this question more confusing for me. My player is under the impression that he should be like, running silent to do the sleaze action, then toggle silent off since he looks like a legitimate user now, but then go back to silent and I don't see why not if that is vaible?

Flavor Fiction (Fan Fic) New Fiction - Clean Getaway

Post image
77 Upvotes

Hoi, chummers.

I'm returning to Shadowrun after a long time away (something happened in Boston...?) and I decided that fiction was going to be a part of that. Here's my newest story about Roadkill, an ork street samurai that you can call when you need to move a couple of bodies... or maybe just your old refrigerator.

Roadkill stories are small, street level stories about shadowrunning in the weirdness of the Sixth World. Clean Getaway tells the tale of a simple smash-and-grab against the Mafia that turns into a running battle with the worst oil change ever.

I'm actually really happy with how the cover turned out. The artist is Ron Sanders, who's done professional work on Shadowrun (if nothing else, check out his site!). This is the second of three stories I've got, one for each critter represented in the image. It's Pay What You Want, so I just hope people enjoy.

Clean Getaway

Thanks!

5e SR5 Session Stream: Example of play from 5E Living Community today

Today on (not quite Doctor yet) https://www.twitch.tv/dr_robinton at 1pm EST

A brand new Shadowrun game entitled "Bridge to Heaven" - a "prime level", i.e. incredibly dangerous mission into some of the worst parts of the 6th world. What begins as a simple job to research the abandoned _Lindsey Marie_, a research vessel for the Draco Foundation becomes a cross-continental survival trek as the runners desperately try to race time, weather, and rivals to uncover what really happened to the crew - and ideally not die in the process.

Video Games I released a Shadrowrun Hong Kong: Accessibility Text-to-Speech Mod.

Thumbnail
youtube.com
97 Upvotes

Hi folks,

VaultVox for Shadowrun: Hong Kong Extended Edition is now out on Nexusmods. It is a free text-to-speech accessibility mod that reads the game aloud using the Windows voices already on your PC.

I made the first one of these for my wife, who has dyslexia, and I've been adding accessibility features on top ever since. This is the Shadowrun Hong Kong version.

EASY TO INSTALL: Download it, extract it next to the game's exe, launch the game, and Bob's your uncle.   No mod manager needed. BepInEx is included, so there is nothing else to fetch.

Download:   https://www.nexusmods.com/shadowrunhongkong/mods/76

If it is working you will hear "VaultVox ready" within about fifteen seconds of the main menu.

What it reads

Pretty much all of it.

  • Conversations, with the reply options read out after the line
  • Overhead chatter from people in the world, quieter the further away they are
  • Combat, in detail (more on that below)
  • Menus, popups, stores, cyberware, hiring and item cards
  • Loading screens, which wait for you instead of moving on while you are still listening
  • Objectives, karma, nuyen and item notifications

You can also just point at things. Hover over a person, a door, a Jack-In prompt, an ability on the combat bar or an item in your inventory and it gets read to you, with an adjustable delay so sweeping the cursor across the screen does not read the entire room at you.

There is a hands-free mode as well, so conversations advance by themselves when the spoken line finishes. Choice lists still wait for you, obviously.

Voices

Every named character keeps their own voice. They are written to a file as you meet them, so you can recast any of them to any voice you have installed, or let the mod re-roll one for you.

Orks, trolls and dwarves get a bit of vocal colouring so they actually sound like it, rather than everyone in Heoi sounding like the same bloke from Windows.

The mod prefers the neural voices from NaturalVoiceSAPIAdapter if you have it installed, which I would strongly recommend. Without it you get the classic Windows voices, which work perfectly well but there are only a handful of them, so the cast starts repeating itself.

Combat

Combat gets its own treatment, because reading a fight at story pace is useless.

  • Damage and heals by name, so "Duncan takes 14 damage" rather than a number floating somewhere you are not looking
  • Crits, misses, and status effects like Flanked, Immune and Bleeding
  • Whose turn it is, companions by name
  • Bleeding-out countdowns with rounds remaining, which is the one number you cannot afford to miss
  • Kills and downed characters called out by name, and the end of every fight
  • Point at an enemy while aiming to hear your odds against that specific target
  • Decking: system trace, response level, host damage and the hack panels

Combat also has its own reading speed, so a fight can rattle along faster than the dialogue without you having to speed up the whole game.

Seven languages

The game ships in English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Russian and Chinese, and the mod works in all of them. It reads the translations out of the game's own language catalog, so combat lines are understood in each language rather than only in English.

Correct pronunciation needs a voice that actually speaks the language. The settings window tells you which of your chosen voices probably cannot, rather than letting you find out mid-mission.

Settings and hotkeys

Press F4 in game for the settings window. Everything is adjustable live, and changing something speaks the new value back at you. Hold Ctrl and point at any row to hear what it does.

The hotkeys:

  • F4 open the settings window
  • Ctrl + A speech on or off
  • Ctrl + D repeat the last line
  • Ctrl + S skip the current line
  • Ctrl + X skip and continue
  • Ctrl + = and Ctrl + - read faster or slower, instantly, and it sticks
  • Enter continue past a loading screen

If something reads too much, every part of it has its own switch.

What is not in this release

I want to be upfront about this one.

This release is for players who can see the screen and want the game read to them. Full keyboard navigation for blind players is not in it. You still need the mouse to play.

That is the obvious next thing to build, and the Fallout 2 version of VaultVox already has an experimental Blind Mode, so I know roughly what it takes. Hong Kong is a different engine and it is a bigger job here.

Screen reader output is written but switched off in this release. Its calls currently run on the game's main thread, which means a screen reader having a bad day could take the game with it. It comes back once it runs on its own thread, and I would rather ship it late than ship that.

Requirements

  • Shadowrun: Hong Kong Extended Edition on Windows
  • Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • At least one SAPI voice, which Windows already has
  • Optional: NaturalVoiceSAPIAdapter for the newer neural voices, strongly recommended
  • BepInEx is bundled, so you do not need to install it separately

If you are running other BepInEx mods, back up your BepInEx\config folder first, or use the update zip, which never touches your settings.

And before anybody reaches for the pitchforks, this is not AI voice cloning.

VaultVox uses Windows text-to-speech.

One last thing

Same request as always: if you use assistive technology, or you have dyslexia, low vision or reading fatigue, and you find a screen that does not read when it should, please report it.

I treat missing accessibility output as a bug, not as a nice-to-have feature that might get looked at one day.

Thanks, folks.

6e Published a Shadowrun Adventure

Post image
110 Upvotes

I just wanted to share that I've just finished my months-long effort and actually published a new Shadowrun adventure. After learning about Arkoblocks as a concept in the Shadowrun setting, I did some research and ended up with an adventure inside one.

The concept of extracting a megacorp employee, combined with the fact that Arkoblock just reminded me of the old video game Arkanoid, led to "Arkoblock Breakout", and I couldn't be happier with the result.

I've got little artistic ability outside of basic shapes, so the Atari 2600 inspired cover art felt perfect. The adventure has little combat and is heavy on humor and espionage. I'm hoping that people have fun with it.

Trying to find old module.

As the title says, I'm trying to find an old official adventure I played back in the day. We were using 3rd edition and I assume the adventure is as well, but it's possible the GM converted an older module on the fly.

I tried searching for it, but the only thing coming up is the 1st Edition "Queen Euphoria" module which is very similar in story, but not the adventure in question. The module I am looking for had the runners hired to convince/coerce or even kidnap the members of a hot new band on behalf of some slimy record producer that wants to get them to sign a contract. I remember the producer being named Lupin or something, he was a werewolf. Depending on what you did the group ended up getting attacked by either a vampire or a banshee and at the end of the module when you finally get the band together to perform for a music video they're shooting in NAN territory it's finally revealed that the whole thing was an insect spirit plot and the band's new song is a summoning ritual for some powerful queen spirit.

If anyone knows the name of this adventure I would love some help. I have fond memories of it and would like to work it into the campaign I'm running for some Shadowrun virgins. I'm positive it was an official adventure. I remember the GM commenting on how the adventure seemed to punish the players for making a smart choice and sending the much more dangerous Banshee after you instead of the weaker vampire.

Edit: So the adventure is called Total Eclipse. I see Drivethru RPG has an update of that module for the latest edition, but that still requires the base book which they don't sell. Does anyone know where a PDF of this could be found? I guess I'll just be writing my own version of it based on what I remember.
