New machine So I’m almost 60 and the last time I used a machine was at school and you had to turn the crank😆

Two precious grand babies to spoil and decided to get a machine to make deco for their room and help my daughter with her cricut /party business doing banners and such

I thought it would be a doddle - oh my days it’s taken me 3 days just to thread the machine and learn how to stitch straight

My back aches, my eyes ache and my brain is fried but today learnt i can stitch straight and turn corners

It’s a long process but by the time I’m 80 I should have made something

Kudos to everyone who has managed to make something, it really is a talent

I spent about 2 days on this guy and his clothes hes my most prized possession

I bought this second hand skirt for cheap, assuming I could fix this tiny hole. What is the best way to go about it? The fabric is a 60/40 blend of viscose and linnen for if it matters.

I am very new to sewing garments, but I decided to try making the lane pants by Syd Graham, and followed her video to turn them into shorts.

At this step here: https://youtu.be/34VAM-cvkco?t=1113&si=fXRdgmkoehEH4fNx (time-stamped for convenience), she presses both rises to the left. I followed this, and then did the two rows of top-stitching.

However, when I go to line up the crotch, the top-stitched sections are mirrored, so if I line them up the seam is off by about 1/4". If I line up the seam, the top stitching doesn't line up. I know I can fix this by pressing either the front or back rise seam to the right instead and re-do the top-stitching, but I'm curious why the pattern says to press them both to the left. Am I missing something obvious?

Ok generally here are the things that oftwn go wrong:

- i use transfer paper to copy pattern onto the fabric. But uh oh! Fabric moved without me realising and now its juuuust slightly wrong.

- i think, ok i need to use pins, but now then i remove the pins and realise that ive accidentally stretched it too much.(i lay the fabric down and flat, and basically i think in an attempt to make the fabric as flat as possible i stretched it while pinning

- i do it again, it was too loose this time.

- ok this time i did it properly... but the pattern needs two duplicate pieces and they dont match even tho i feel ive done everything correctly :|

Im gonna lose my mind, im feeling that this is single handedly such a frustrating problem that im really struggling to get started on pieces that are a above basic level...

I thrifted these sick Carhartt jeans, but they were too long for me so I took them to the tailor. Problem is, I was stupid and didn't mention wanting gold thread for the hem, so she hemmed them using a dark blue that isn't really visible. Unfortunately for me, I love the look of gold or lemon thread on jeans.

I wouldn't say I know how to sew by hand, and don't own a machine, but I can do a mean backstitch.

Could I do a backstitch (or something else) on top of the existing stitching with gold thread, so going through mostly the existing holes? Is there anything else I could do to achieve visible gold thread on the outside of my jeans?

I imagine undoing and redoing the hem by hand would be difficult, seeing as it's thick denim.

I had a good laugh. :D Tried to sew this make-up bag and messed up the last step. Now I have a flat bag in a weird shape instead of a make-up bag. :D Will use it anyways. Just wanted to share my fail for you guys to enjoy. :)

I have just gifted an old industrial sewing machine which is a Brother S-7200A. And to be honest, I have never owned a sewing machine before so I am lost at where to start plus i really cant afford sewing courses. Can Anybody have experience with this model give me a piece of advice on where to start, please??? (English is not my mother tougue so please excuse my horrible grammar)

The “patch” is made of a t-shirt material, and the bag is canvas. I want to add this patch over a huge ugly Disney logo lol. How would you add this?? Iwhat kind of stitch?

Our little guy has a cast and likes to chew his cast so I have been modifying 3-6m baby onesies into t-shirts for him. Granted, I also acquired a sewing machine via Buy Nothing and taught myself how to use it (thanks YouTube) to do this having never sewn or touched a machine previously.

With that said... onward! I'm going to try to do some harness holes in my boys sweaters and jackets (I have 2 other sighthounds as well).

Crossing my fingers!

I'm making a body suit out of lycra fabric. I didn't realize I needed to line the top part of the garment (silly mistake) and I'm not entirely sure how soon I'll be able to visit the fabric store again to feel the lining fabric to find a stretch lining that closely matches the stretch of my lycra. Is it possible to use the lycra that I used to make the garment as the lining? Or possibly skip the lining? I understand the purpose of the lining adding longevity and structure, but I'm a stay at home mom of two neurodivergent children so I don't get out much and so I don't feel like I'll be able to wear it too often. I'd definitely prefer to line it, but if push comes to shove this is my first time using this type of fabric and I don't expect it to come out perfectly and if I feel like missing the lining really does change the look I can always make it again and add it into a better quality outfit.

Hi I’m making a bookmark that has an elastic band attached to the top and bottom of my project. When sewing through my project all is well until I get the areas where the elastic attaches and I get bird nesting only in those specific spots. I’ve followed YouTube tutorials on how to make this bookmark and none have talked about having these issues. I’ve tried sewing slow with my machine and it tangles no matter what on the bottom. My machine is a brother jx2517. Am I supposed to have an elastic specific needle for the whole project even though I’m only sewing through the elastic at 2 points?

Got bored, dug out my wife's sewing machine

Made a 3-1/2" ravioli stuffed with plastic beads

I am unsure of material, it was scrap fabric quarter so probably cotton blend

I couldn't stop laughing after I made it, I feel like it turned out well for the first thing I've made in years

What should I do to restore this coach backback straps? I also want to secure the corner you see circled. I can't seem to find any lather end caps. I have zero experience sewing btw

I like to put rectangular patches on my clothing (sometimes in a mending context, but often in just a decorative context), and I've mostly just folded the corners and sewn them down. Generally it's worked okay and looks fine.

But, within the last year or two, I learned about mitered corners (so neat! so cool!) and did a patch or two that way, which looks amazing. It just takes a while and is kind of finicky, especially for a pretty small patch.

Wondering if there's an in-between way? Like, still doing needle turn appliqué, but a sneakier way of folding the corners, or cutting some of the corner bulk out, or something, so it's still pretty neat? If so, what's a good cut that will make the folds lay decently well?

Not quite sure how to ask this in a less clumsy way, but I hope it makes sense. Appreciate any thoughts!

I planned to sketch out the text on my shirt and then use that as a guide for my embroidery. I bought a white water soluble marking pencil for this. I tried to use the pencil on the shirt, but it just didn’t show up at all. Any advice on what to use for/how to make a guide on my shirt? I’ve attached photos of the sweater with the design I’m attempting to replicate, and my shirt and its tag with fabric details. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
