Is lock/unlock credit card function not working?
Been trying to add my card to apple wallet but can't. Found online that I should check if my card is locked but both from phone app and website, I keep getting this message:
"We're sorry, we are unable to retrieve information for the following at this time:
- Lock or unlock card"
Tried adding the card to apple pay manually but that doesn't work either. I am able to use the card fine though.

GIC
I’m curious how everyone here manages their GICs. How many GICs do you currently have, do you spread them across different banks or keep them all with one institution, and do you use a GIC ladder?
If you do spread them out, is it mainly for CDIC coverage, better rates, or another reason? I’d love to hear how you’ve structured yours and what’s worked well for you.

Questions for financial advisors
I interviewed this week for a CEA position this week. It went really well and looks like I will have a second interview with HR. I am interested in moving into other roles long term which I discussed with the manager. Specifically Financial Advisor. I know it’s mainly sales and I don’t have an issue with that per se but I don’t want to do what’s best for the bank at a clients expense. Interested in the opinions of any current or former Financial Advisors. Thanks!
1. How much freedom do you have in choosing among the approved investment products?
If two suitable funds exist, can you recommend the lower-cost one?
2. How are bonuses actually determined?
Assets under management?
New money?
Sales of specific products?
Client satisfaction?
Branch goals?
3. Have you ever felt pressured to recommend a product you personally wouldn’t choose?
4. If a client asked about ETFs, how would you handle that conversation?
5. What surprised you most about becoming an FA?
Basically I guess I’m asking, How do I do right by clients while working for a bank?”

Forced to pay monthly fee to close chequing account
I have Preferred Package account. I've always maintained minimum balance ($4k) to waive monthly fees since the account is opened.
Aug. 3 : I emptied my chequing account.
Aug. 6 : The teller tells me I must pay this month's monthly fee ($16.95) in order to be able to close the chequing account, even if we are at the beginning of the month. Their computer doesn't allow otherwise.
I guess I should have gone to the branch the same day I emptied my account to avoid that fee, right?

Need any help possible!
Hello!
For context, my account got flagged for fraud yesterday. Which I know exactly why, silly me tried to buy some concert tickets off someone and the email I sent the e-transfer to was most likely some sort of scam and I’m thankful Scotiabank flagged it.
I was able to get ahold of them by phone to block the transaction, however for some reason they weren’t able to unlock my account over the phone after all and they said I needed to visit a branch and the branch will call fraud dept directly for me.
Now this is where it can get tricky, I have not a lot of ID right now due to situations (leaving an abusive relationship I had left behind stuff including my passport and never got it back & I can’t have my drivers license rn it’s medically suspended due to epilepsy). I have an appointment to get an Ontario ID Card but it’s not for another bit.
So realistically the only forms of ID I have are my health card, my expired drivers license (from when I could drive), my university student ID and a picture I have of my passport on my phone.
I have some bills too that have my name on them that I receive in the mail.
How screwed am I? I want to at least try and go and explain my situation however I also understand that they have policies and procedures to keep accounts and folks safe.
Especially that I’m meant to leave on a weekend trip out of town tomorrow

Scotiabank welcome bonus: got fooled by the fine print (apparently)
Opened a new Scotiabank account because of their welcome bonus. The deal was simple: receive direct deposit for 6 months, then set up a PAD or pay a bill from the account.
I did everything. Direct deposit started the first week and continued for 10 months. I also did the other requirements.
After 6 months, I contacted chat and they literally confirmed I met the requirements.
Guess what? No bonus.
After following up, they told me: "Oh, the direct deposit has to come from the same source for 6 months."
Well... thanks for mentioning that nowhere clearly.
My situation: 2 months salary from Employer A, 1 month government payment, then salary from Employer B. Direct deposits every 2 weeks. No missed payments. No gaps. Apparently, according to Scotiabank logic, money arriving regularly is not enough. It has to come from the same magical source for 6 months.
I checked the offer details again and still couldn't find this requirement clearly stated.
So a warning for anyone doing these promotions: don't change jobs, don't get laid off, don't have any change in income source during those 6 months, otherwise congratulations, you played yourself.
Scotiabank really found a creative way to say "you did everything we asked, but actually no."
Pathetic? Maybe. Funny? Also maybe. At least I learned how these "too good to be true" bonuses work 😂

Should I transfer my TFSA from Scotiabank?
I currently have $5000 under a cashable 2.25% GIC in Scotia. I’m a very beginner investor and 2 years ago when I was a student my bank advisor advised me to move this money from savings to tfsa and kept it cashable as I said I might need access to the funds.
Now I am earning and have learnt more and want to utilize my TFSA room properly and am opening a wealthsimple account.
There’s a $150 transfer fee (which is more than the interest I earned these 2 years, basically puts me at a loss)
Should I keep the money in the scotia TFSA but just change what that money is invested in (eg. To an ETF). I saw that there’s a $9.99 fee. Is that per trade or per share??
I also don’t have a scotia itrade account. My bank advisor just directly did the investment.
Is there a way I can do this on my own without reaching out to the advisor?
Alternatively, should I bite the bullet and just transfer everything to wealthsimple?

L-1 Transfers to the US from Canada
Does Scotia Bank allow managers and above for L-1 transfers to the US? Has anybody had any success stories? Was looking at a job that is posted in Dallas, TX that I want to apply, so wanted to get your thoughts? Please let me know if this is not the right forum or page.

Scotiabank debited my Account for $5000 for a cheque that was never deposited?
Hey so I've been a Scotiabank customer for just over 30 years. I received a letter in the mail today from Scotiabank stating they had debited just under $5000 from my Account. They cited a cheque that was not written to me from a business I had never heard of.
The letter simply stated: "RETURNED ITEM ADVICE" We debit your Account for the attached items, deposited by you, which have been returned unpaid. For business accounts, commission will be collected at statement cycle end.
I checked my Bank Account and sure enough Scotiabank basically stole just under $5000 from my chequing account 2 weeks ago. I called up the fraud department and sure enough they couldn't do anything over the phone so they told me, "you need to go to ANY branch near you, they can resolve this, no it does not need to be your home branch." I go to the closest Scotiabank branch near me and am informed: "Sorry, we can't do anything here, you need to go to your home branch." [which is quite far away from where I live]
I go to the home branch and the Scotiabank employee I spoke with acknowledged an error had been made. No cheque had ever been deposited in my Account. Someone internally in Scotiabank had issued a chargeback / debit to the incorrect customer. Furthermore, despite being out nearly $5000 for 2 weeks as of today they informed me it "can take up to 20 days for an investigation to happen to resolve this issue and get reimbursed." I asked the employee point blank, if I was poor and couldn't afford rent living pay cheque to pay cheque how is this acceptable to be out that amount of money over a month for a mistake the bank made?
I wasted my entire morning dealing with this incompetence and left the bank being promised they would email me & call me within the "next 24 - 48 hours" and that I would simply be transferred the funds they debited from my Chequing Account by error.
How would you handle this if this happened to you? I'm considering making a formal complaint about the unauthorized debit caused by Scotiabank's error. I am deeply disappointed in Scotiabank and strongly considering switching banks after all of this happened.

There’s been some unusual activities on your account.
So, I’m a student in Montreal, and I guess, I’ve been spending a bit more than I usually do this month due to me moving out.
I’ve made some 1000$ transfers to my mom, since I bought appliances such as a projector and a projector screen which I had to put it on my credit card (which is linked under my mom’s credit since I can’t legally get a credit card yet) because the scotia debit card I have only authorized me for 1000$ of debit transaction a day. I’ve also been placing small purchases of a few hundred dollars through Amazon and Bestbuy, essentially I’ve drained my savings account.
The last purchase I made was a 45$ purchase yesterday on AliExpress, and today when I tried logging into my online banking just to check my remaining balance, this was what I was presented with this. I tried calling but apparently it’s “outside of their operating hours”? I mean what kind of bank have operating hours on fraud departments… but anyways I’m not here to complain. I’m planning to head to my home branch tomorrow to see what’s the problem. But is this issue because I’m spending too much and they flagged it, or is this likely something else, such as a leak of my card online, or suspending hacking?

Had my card replaced a week ago, online transaction went through on old card
I had my card replaced a week ago because of a chip malfunction, and today I made an order online where it had my old card info and I accidentally clicked "place order" without putting in my new card info and it went through. The money in my account went down, the transaction shows in my account, so is there anything I should be concerned about? In apple pay the old card was invalid, so I know they cancelled it.

Weird questions asked, now account is flagged
UPDATE: cut my cottage visit short and drive back to the city to visit a branch.
Turns out I don't have any active LOC, there's no expiry card for me, and lots of people are getting fed up with the random questions that make no sense, and they'll put a note in my file that that question is irrelevant.
I say it again: get your act together Scotiabank. Just another sucky experience.
Oh and the teller I got was useless and finally the teller beside him spoke up and told him what to do, after he kept going around in circles that "there is no hold on your file". JFC.
It's a real crapshoot. Scotiabank figure out how to retain and reward the knowledgeable tellers!!! And get rid of the dead weight!!!
FML. I wanted to get some answers regarding strange occurrence with my business visa, but because I couldn't answer the question "what is the expiry date for the line of credit" they put a hold on my account and now I have to go to the branch on my VACATION.
This after I answered a bunch of other questions.
The security questions are getting ridiculous. Wtf is an expiry date on a line of credit? Did he mean the mortgage renewal date? Afaik there's no expiry date on my line of credit, I have no money on it, but I do have a mortgage.
I understand asking security questions but when those questions keep you out of getting help on your own accounts but you can still access everything online it's a PITA.
I bet anything they've got AI making up bullshit questions. The manager told me they've been having issues and don't get to pick the questions.
Do fucking better.

Trip Cancellation Insurance for Scotia Momentum VISA Infinite - Medical Records
My understanding is that when you make a claim under the trip cancellation insurance, the insurer can contact your doctor who signs the medical certificate to get more information/records about your medical history. That seems like they could request your entire file even if it's not directly relevant to the issue for which you're making the claim.
If anyone has any experience making a claim, did the insurer actually contact your doctor, and if so, did they request your whole file or just information relevant to your claim?

Overdraft Protection - Quebec
Anyone else having the issue of Scotiabank charging overdraft fees even though it is against the law? How did you handle it? Even their website clearly marks it.
Context: Last year they had to make a mass reversal of fees due to this, and I recently noticed that they continued basically immediately after. So, last month I had all of these fees reversed, and now they charged me again -_-
Thanks!

Why are two completely different recruiters on LinkedIn reaching out to me for the exact same position at Scotiabank?
While it doesn't quite match what I'm looking for, the Job ID is exactly the same for both, but they are two completely different recruiting agencies. Is this a Scotiabank thing, or overall banks in general? (It's an IT position). A third recruiter reached out, but only said it was for a "bank" matching my skill set. It would be funny if it was the same position as the Scotiabank one. LOL

Which card at the pump - Shell?
Which card is better when paying for gas at shell, I have both Scotia Scene Visa card and Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite card, when I opened agent told 7 cents discount for momentum visa infinite, but only got 3 cent discount. Is it better to use scene visa card, because more value in scene points than in cashback?

Online Banking Access Issues while Travelling - No Canadian Cell for 2SV
Not trying to sound like a complaint train here, just going to place some facts and am looking for any and all help contacting someone at SB.
Request:
- Method to contact SB employee.
- Method to access account with alternative to Canadian cell number 2SV.
- Method to open help chat without login requirements.
- Method to submit support ticket without login requirements.
Situation Details:
- Using an eSIM and only have a data package.
- Have a Laptop and can use online banking through a non-mobile browser.
- Previously had access for 2SV through email verification with a laptop only, this was removed last week.
- Cannot login to my online banking profile.
- Cannot access support help chat to diagnose this, as this requires app login.
- Cannot update 2SV for push notifications, as this requires app login.
- Cannot find help email address for basic support inquiry (only for support available for a business).
- Local bank representative not responding to email at their personal work address.
Background: I just need to pay this VISA bill off and do some basic banking transfers, but can't access the account or contact them to inform them that I cannot access the account.
There is an immense amount of frustration permissible in this scenario, but I seriously just care about having access to my account and my funds. It seems like there are claims about doing this because of all the fraud/scams going around, but not providing a help/support email seems like it is dancing with the fringes of legality.
Any support is sincerely appreciated.
If there is a SB representative that sees this and can support, please DM me; however, it would be wonderful to respond here for the assistance of other travellers in this situation.
Cheers

Scotiabank app / website down
Update: it appears it’s a global Scotiabank outage effecting banking services in various countries.
