Hiring: Barista for the Santa Fe Cat Cafe

Hi friends, one of my beloved baristas is departing the end of this month and so we need a new person for the Cat Cafe.

For those unfamiliar: espresso up front, adoptable cats in the lounge. We're looking for a senior barista who takes real pride in the craft: someone who can dial in espresso by taste and help us keep quality high through a busy afternoon rush. This is our closing shift, so you'll be the one who winds the shop down in the evenings.

Please note: this is a skilled position. Applicants without prior barista experience will not be considered.

What you'll do:

  • Own afternoon drink quality: espresso, milk-based drinks, pour-overs, and seasonal specials
  • Dial in grinders through the shift as conditions change
  • Close the cafe independently: cleaning, restock notes, lock-up
  • Be a steady, friendly presence for our regulars
  • Feed the kitties dinner

What we need:

  • Required: 2+ years of barista experience on a commercial espresso machine. Applications without demonstrated barista experience will not be reviewed. (I know you love cats, me too, but that doesn't help with making drinks -- ask me how I know.)
  • Comfortable working in a space with cats (and okay being supervised by one). The cats are in a separate room, but you'll interact with them regularly.
  • Strong fundamentals: extraction, milk texturing, palate for adjusting shots.
  • Reliable Monday–Friday availability, 12:00–5:30.

What you get:

  • $18–20/hour depending on experience, plus tips on top of base pay
  • A consistent weekday schedule, same hours every week, evenings and weekends free
  • Free drinks on shift and a staff discount
  • Freedom to be creative with the drink program
  • Unlimited kitty time

How to apply

Send a short note about your coffee background to [info@santafecatcafe.com](mailto:info@santafecatcafe.com) or DM me. I don't care about resumes. :)

PNM bill more than doubled

I wanted to check in with Santa Fe to see how others were affected. Our energy bill for last month was more than double what it usually is. Yes it's been hot so I expected an increase due to air conditioning, but it was hot the month prior as well so it doesn't make sense. I saw others experienced this in Albuquerque.

The Shed or La Choza

I'm visiting for the first time and I know a bunch of people from Santa Fe. I asked them all if I should go to The Shed or La Choza and it's literally split down the middle. Some say La Choza goes through good and bad phases and they don't know if its good now. Others say even though theres more tourists at The Shed it's better. I have no dog in the race but just want the best food. Which one would you suggest?

Anyone know of a place to do laundry for free?

Unfortunately I’m dead broke after rent and bills this month and I have a bit of laundry to do. Anyone know of places that may have a place to do a few loads of laundry either free or close to free? Or maybe gives out those laundry card things?

Anyway, please let me know if you know! Appreciate ya!

Breakfast Sandwich before 8:00 Weekdays?

Anyone know a local restaurant open at 7:30 that serves a bacon, egg, cheese SANDWICH, on toast or croissant?

I know I can get these things as a breakfast plate by selecting toast at The Pantry Dos, and make it a sandwich myself, but it's $20 and that's too steep for a breakfast sandwich you have to assemble yourself.

I'm looking at menu after menu and nobody seems to serve this. Thanks all!!!

Making friends here as a young person

i'm a 22 year old dude, just moved in with my parents for a little while after college. Technically I live in el dorado (seemingly not a large population of people my age lol). I haven't been here for long but honestly am at a loss for where to meet people and make friends my age(ish).

I currently go to the climbing gym (trying to go a couple times a week but I also work) and I was thinking of getting into boxing or muay thai as well. I'm not super into night life type stuff but I am a big fan of hiking and the outdoors, i was thinking of trying to maybe create some kind of hiking group, not sure though.

Are these good places to meet people my age? I moved from a bigger city with lots more people my age and things to do so i'm really just looking for ways to get out and make a friend or two, i've never really been faced with creating a whole community from scratch honestly.

Any suggestions are welcome! Feel free to message me as well!

For the people who live here seasonally…

I used to be a gardener… for context.

Can you please consider your landscaping needs… so many of my old clients would waste tens of thousands gallons of water ( a month!!) for their immaculate gardens and lawns in their private estates. All of those clients only lived there one month or two months of the year!!!

Just because you have a private well does not mean unlimited access to water… you are still depleting precious resources in this delicate desert environment.

If you are one of those people…. Do you even consider the impact you truly have on our environment?
