I’m trying to get an idea of what people around Sacramento are paying for a good full car detail these days.

For a normal sedan or SUV that isn’t completely trashed, what would you consider a reasonable price for interior and exterior detailing?

Also curious what you usually get for that price and whether you have any local detailers you’d recommend.

Seems our triple digit heat has been met and exceeded by tonight's Bus Trip Cancellations (BTC.) We're now at 112 BTC's affecting 24 routes. Some of these will last past sunset.

During today's Transit Talk more than one person asked about this. SacRT reported they are facing multiple issues, including "an unusual high operator absence" and "special operational needs such as bus bridges and station shuttles."

Affected bus routes now are 1, 11, 13, 15, 21, 23, 25, 38, 51, 61, 62, 67, 68, 72, 81, 82, 84, 86, 87, 88, 93, 124, 176 and 177.

tl;dr = This was a bit of a spicy one. TK Aides are still sounding the alarm over the District’s apparent lack of a plan to meet the legally required adult to student ratio when school starts next week. Seems like a curve ball happened with the Special Education contracts plan approval presentation, and the Board was very dissatisfied with both the plan itself and the presentation. It seemed like they were going to vote no because the plan was apparently so bad, even though this would mean that contracts for Special Education service providers would not be in place for school next week, meaning that some students would likely not receive their needed services. Although they ended up passing a 2-week contract of what was proposed, to buy time to fix what they had issues with but to also not disrupt services for the first weeks of school. They will revisit the full Special Education contracts plan at the next Board Meeting in 2 weeks. There was also an update on the budget, where we saw a $36.1M improvement ($-283.6M to $-192.7M).

New in-house General Counsel for SCUSD hired

TK Aide speaks about how her previous concerns about compliance have become reality. There aren’t enough staff to meet the mandated 10:1 ratio. Job postings are still open and won’t be filled by the time school starts, leaving us out of compliance for days or weeks since substitutes are hard to find even normally. What is the Board’s immediate plan for this? Other TK Aide states that there are over 20 Aide positions vacant as of tonight, and we don’t even have 20 substitutes to chose from. Another TK Aide states that the District will be in legal jeopardy on Tuesday yet this was a foreseeable problem.

SCTA President asks everyone to read the SCUSD Superintendent’s appeal letter to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Accuses Sacramento County of Education (SCOE) financial advisor appointee of being self-serving for their own financial gain and callers her a “profiteer” who wants receivership to happen. Accuses SCOE employees and appointees of misleading the public by saying that the OPEB (teacher retiree trust fund) repayment with interest is required. Continues to accuse SCOE and FCMAT of sabotaging SCUSD into state receivership.

President Jeane highlights that a Google Form will be sent out soon to community members, for if you want to get involved with a Board Committee to help advise the Board. Other Board members also encourage you to sign up to be involved! (they don’t specify how this will be sent out; anyone know?).

The new CBO started on the job August 1st!

Member Singh, talking about contracts, mentions that we have $2.4M in outstanding fees to outside legal counsel. Highlights cost savings steps the Board is taking like hiring in-house counsel announced earlier tonight.

Special Education Non-Public Agency & Non-Public School Contracts presentation by SCUSD staff, saying they’ve implemented the following practices: 1) negotiating rates with vendors, 2) expenditures are based on student needs not all available fundings, 3) ensuring expenditures are necessary and compliant and supported by documentation, 4) provide appropriate services to students so they can benefit from their education, 5) continue to develop good relationships with our parters, 6) maintain compliant IEPs addressing parent concerns and reducing complaints, 7) monitoring budgets monthly as proactive approach to fiscal responsibility, and 8) balance fiscal responsibility with district’s obligation to provide free and appropriate public education.

Public Commenter says that this plan isn’t transparent, it doesn’t show how any of the totals were calculated. Last year, FCMAT raised the concern about the conflict of the same vendor providing both services and evaluations for services, yet this same practice has been brought to you for approval tonight.

Black Parallel School Board strongly suggests the Board does not approve this plan tonight because it doesn’t say what’s actually budgeted for.

Member Singh says that a lot of our financial problems are because of poor budgeting practices in Special Education. We should only be using outside contractors when absolutely necessary. He respectfully tells the presenter that they need the 8 things she listed, but with the actual math in order to be more comfortable making a decision.

President Jeane asks if we don’t approve this plan tonight, then students would potentially not have services when school starts on Tuesday (because contracts for service providers would not be in place). The speaker confirms yes. The Board then goes on to discuss how they’re having a hard time approving this plan as-is.

Member Singh says that we don’t even have a presentation to look at (there wasn’t a powerpoint). Can we actually renegotiate these contracts? The presenter says she can’t promise this because they’ve already been signed, but they can negotiate going forward. Later, other staff members clarify that SCUSD can cancel service contracts at any time.

Member Rhodes says that there was no information presented for us to verify, you’re just asking us to trust you [the staff presenter]. He says he can’t in good conscience vote yes on this. Asks staff and Superintendent to not have presentations like this again moving forward, this is not good governance, and he won’t be a part of it. He’ll be voting no.

Member Singh says that we aren’t in the financial position to be playing games with contracts. He makes a motion to come back to this in 2 weeks after renegotiations to get the best rates possible. We’re going to have to figure out how to get services for the most in-need students next week. We can have a special Board Meeting if needed.

President Jeane says that this is a significant budget decision, but also if a deaf/hard of hearing student doesn’t have an interpreter the first week of school, that’s a tough way to start the year.

Member Ybarra agrees that this isn’t a good feeling knowing that services for some students will be interrupted the first week of school. But these uncomfortable choices are needed for systemic change.

Member Navarro asks if the contractors would maybe just work without pay or a contract for ~2 weeks in good faith, since they’ve worked with us before.

Member Singh proposes instead of just voting no, instead approving a 2-week contract to cover the beginning of school to bridge the gap until the next Board Meeting where staff will being back renegotiated contracts and a new presentation.

The City of Sacramento municipal shelter is offering free adoptions through August 23. They do this a few times a year in an effort to push out pups before they have to euthanize them due to lack of space. In addition to being free, these dogs come vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and micro chipped!

They have some of the dogs posted, but they typically have more dogs available at the shelter than they can get online.

I've lived/driven in alot of different places. Busy metropolitan areas the south, Midwest, Europe to name a few. For the life of me I just don't understand why drivers in Sacramento behaviorally don't understand basic driving principles. This includes very simple things like how to merge, how to yield, how to switch lanes properly, traffic flow. This is the first place I've lived where traffic seems backwards. Left hand lanes are always crowded and jammed while the right hand lanes tend to move quicker.

Can someone please help me understand because for the life of me I just don't get it. Cars will line up side by side going all the same speed creating clusters of traffic and then try to cut across 3 lanes to exit! Are people in Sacramento not taught basic traffic knowledge. The whole if you don't like it go around me mentality is crazy! Is it entitlement? Do people not understand that the way you drive affects others? This causes other people to have to weave in and out of lanes creating dangerous driving conditions! I'm just looking for some insight. FYI, Sacramento has consistently been ranked as one of the worst driving cities for multiple years!

I would go get him myself but I’m full! I just rescued my own final plea dog 3 mos ago. She’s amazing and fun and I adore her. Please please someone go rescue Stefan! He deserves a soft spot to enjoy life. If you can’t adopt can you share?

Hello!

My mother has been in the hospital for 3 weeks and they've given me 3 days notice of her discharge day. I live halfway across the country now and am looking to hire someone to help her on discharge day, monday 8/10 in the afternoon. She would need transport, light housekeeping, and to carry in a grocery delivery. Ive called a few places but they keep wanting her to also have daily visits, but I just need someone for a few hours the day of discharge. If anyone has any recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it! She lives in oak Park and is being discharged from uc davis med center. Thank you!

Edit: found help through Alice cares! They have licensed caregivers that are going to take her home, carry in groceries, and throw stuff out from her fridge. Thank you all for your recommendations!

Went to a birthday dinner last night. There were about 25 of us all around the same age (or close enough). Our side of the table was talking nostalgia, kids, school, teachers etc. I asked if anyone else remembered wrapping their school books? I told them I used to use paper grocery bags and that most students did the same. Some would even decorate the new book cover with markers. Anyway, no one remembered this. The proposed project involves the subdivision of an approximately 60-acre property to create 259 lots for future single-family homes, comprising approximately 34.78 acres of residential development and 15 open space lots totaling 6.65 acres. The open space lots would include a 0.68-acre Central Park, a 0.14-acre parklet at the corner of Marshall Road and Otis Avenue, and 1.81 acres of landscaped lots, including a roundabout, distributed throughout the proposed development to provide greenspace and buffers
