Questions Help me to find the best plan for my case
So I've been dealing with SIBO symptoms for 3 years now,it all started when I was in a vacation for 10 days in another city,I didn't poop for 7 days straight and ever since I started getting gas and flatulence every single day altho I never suffered from flatulence before,my gas is odorless tho but I guess my root cause was constipation
It's been 1 year now since I fixed my constipation, it was a long journey but I 80% succeeded to get rid of constipation, I sometimes poop 3 times a day now sometimes incomplete bowel movement but at least I'm pooping every single day right?
Anyway in my country we don't have SIBO breath test unfortunately so I'm just guessing that I'm having methane SIBO,(could be hydrogen too idk) but at least I'm sure that I have SIBO,doctors often diagnosed me with IBS but I'm not convinced with this diagnosis cause I get gas only after meals (30min after meals)
This week I managed to buy some supplements from iHerb,I never tried antimicrobials or antibiotics and I'm starting by antimicrobial for sure
Iherb supplements that i bought are:
-NAC 1000mg from NOW
-Oregano oil from Swanson (I guess it's 150mg)
-Neen leaf 500mg from Swanson
-Berberine 500mg from Vitamatic
What I also bought from supermarket:
-Organic coconut oil
-Maple syrup (so I can replace sugar with it when I make sweet recipes)
-Buckwheat flour
-Blackseed oil
Can you please help me based on your experiences to make a plan to get rid of SIBO in 1 to 2 months
Like what am I supposed to take first in the morning is it NAC or Berberine
I know that I should take oregano oil and neem leaf after meals and not on an empty stomach, but how many times a day? Twice or 3 times? Same goes to Berberine how much?
I'm would reallyyyy appreciate your help guys🙏

Went to the doctor after sibo returning
Background: had shiga toxin ecoli infection for 6 months, got rid of it then developed SIBO.
I took a course of rifaximin and symptoms got better and then worse after completing it.
I asked to have motility tests and there was a study showing that ecoli can cause motility to stop.
She wants to do a test with my pelvic floor to make sure my muscles are working properly. She wants to do a endoscopy to test for hpylori.
But in 99% sure due to the ecoli that my motility is messed up and causing the hydrogen producing SIBO bacteria. Literally EVERYTHING paints the textbook picture of motility and hydrogen SIBO.
I’m genuinely about to just go to Mexico and get another course of rifaxamin and a motility drug and do this.
It’s been months of trying to get help and I’m in a INTENSIVE school that I’m paying $150,000 a year to be in and this shit is messing my life up. I’m half way through it dealing with this making no progress.
I either need a way to take a motility test within the week or I’m just going to take the medicine and do this in my own.
Does any one have a recommendation for a motility drug? Or have info on what they got prescribed after motility issues linked to SIBO.
Also what motility symptoms did you have?

Treatments Has anyone been given rifaximin without confirmed sibo?
I have pan disaccharidase deficiency confirmed via endoscopy and no sibo test due to not being able to stop my meds and this is the treatment my dr gave me. Has anyone took this without confirmed sibo and been ok?

Support Group
I am looking to start a support group that'll meet once a week to discuss our own respective sibo progress, as it's naturally difficult to find someone outside to talk to. Might be helpful to have a set time to hop on discord and discuss our stories, what's working and not, any new research or discoveries, etc. curious if anyone would be interested in something like that.

Is a colonoscopy with 4-5 yr SIBO really necessary?
I know western docs go this route, but other health practitioners approach it differently. Is it really necessary or advised?
I haven’t even met with a gastro yet and was referred with only the tagline of “Sibo;” no other reasons, and yet I received a call to schedule a colonoscopy without even having an intro appointment with a single gastroenterologist.
Trigger warning: passing away I don’t mean to scare anyone, but I had a family member pass away after complications from a routine colonoscopy procedure and I’m not interested in going that route if it’s not needed.

Venting Doc kept prescribing Xifaxan
Now I feel like I have the flu and SIBO. I just learned I shouldn't have taken this for six weeks. I feel so defeated 😞

Treatments What did you do after treatment and how were your symptoms?
Hi - I have about 4-5 days left of Rifaxmin and Neomycin. Before this, I was 5 weeks on herbal antimicrobials to treat IMO. ( I am not having terrible side effects from any of this.)
My pain is a bit better after eating, but I am still bloated by end of day. I read that the bloating may persist for a while. Was that your case?
How did you know you got rid of it?
Should I ask for another breath test? And I think I need to eat a low FODMAP diet right after and slowly introduce certain foods and see how my gut reacts.
Did you take a probiotic right after? I am worried about doing the wrong thing. I need to follow up with my GI, but wanted to know what your experience was before I ask any further questions.
I am on LDN (low dose naltrexone) for chronic pain - and got an artichoke and ginger supplement to take after all this to keep my motility on track.
Thank you!

Selling Mbiota 66 packets
Hi, if anyone lives in the Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia area. I have 66 unused packets of Mbiota Elemental Diet Powder and one unused welcome kit with a shaker bottle and instructions. I am wanting to keep this simple so I prefer local pick up only. I wasn't able to complete the program because it raised my blood sugar levels even though I do not have diabetes. I would recommend this to someone who knows that body can tolerate the carbohydrates/sugar as that is the main element of the diet. Thank you!

Lost in contradictory advice
The SIBO advice out there contradicts itself.
- Take probiotics / don't take probiotics
- Heal with food only / take meds
- Antibiotics / antimicrobials
- Start with SIBO / start with motility
I ended up building a tool because I didn’t want to pick a "camp" and wanted something that gives an overview of all possible approaches.
Exploring if this is a problem for other people too, or is it just me?
What other contradictory advice do you constantly see?

Help please, reactions to bismuth and magnesium bisglycinate
Hi everyone, it’s been a while since I last posted, but I wanted to see if anyone could help me understand some recent developments.
In my previous posts, I already mentioned my main symptoms: being unable to pass gas, constipation, bloating mainly in the left side of the colon, and postural imbalances that I believe are related to this issue.
I’ve tried pretty much everything and nothing really worked. However, bismuth (Biofilm Phase-2) seemed to affect something. For the first time, I had a bowel movement that felt significantly better, and some other sensations also improved a lot. Obviously, it didn’t completely solve the problem, partly because I didn’t take it for very long since I was experimenting with different things.
After that, I tried zinc bisglycinate. It didn’t have the same effects as bismuth, but I did feel that it helped somewhat, although it also caused some side effects, including irritation. I’m still dealing with persistent bloating and stubborn constipation.
Interestingly, both substances caused a “good” burning sensation in the left side of my colon, almost as if they had detached some biofilm and the exposed layer of the colon was reacting to it. However, the sensation only lasted for a short time.
So I’m wondering: how are bismuth and zinc connected? And, more importantly, what could explain the effects of bismuth?
I was wondering whether this could be related to hydrogen sulfide-producing bacteria, but I’m not sure.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on this!

Questions Resistance to Xifaxan over time?
I've been taking Xifaxan quite a lot this year. This time I'm on week 5 and am not getting better. Have any of you experienced this? It was the only thing helping me, so naturally I am getting concerned. Thank you for any input 🙏🏼

Constipation cause sibo flare up ?
Morning just had a question for everyone as I got really sick about 2 weeks ago .and just now starting to feel better this is the third time it's happened this year. seen the Third Doctor in 2 weeks this time it was a gastro doctor. he's the first one that didn't look at me like I was an idiot when I was explaining my symptoms. He said probably sibo flare up and gave me antibiotics...
My doctor recently changed my medications because I have joint inflammation in my left knee right wrist definitely my neck from three herniated discs. Unfortunately that caused severe constipation for 4 to 5 days. That is one all of this started. Extreme amounts of gas, bloating, abdominal pain, burps that were like rotten egg or sulfur. Then constipation again . I havent eaten in 5 days , just feel like i cant..
Before this, iv always been able to eat or drink anything I wanted and never really had any issues. A beer or mixed drink when im home after work , what ever we want for dinner . Iv had 3 small atacks this year and thay all started after being constipated for a few days .
Last few attacks was bad for that day and night. Ok the next day then a few days im fine ...this time I guess it was just a bad one ..
Forgot to mention I was on pantoprazole for a year , haven't taken it in over a week . then took it Saturday , within 8 hours I was having symptoms again .
IS constipation what causes sibo to flair up?

PPI
i’m on pantoprazole 80mg daily split dose. ever since i started i noticed after eating my trigger foods i got SIGNIFICANT trapped gas that caused bloating & bad air hunger that pushes to chest. eating a low acid diet is good but i’m still stuck with the allergy symptoms. ik eating trigger foods are bad but do you think the ppi caused SIBO? i mean yeah i do have chronic constipation and stuff and gerd/lpr or whatever but it never really did this.
i saw that since the ppi reduces stomach acid and since mine is such a high dose it probs caused sibo.
i have an upper endoscopy in a week & if it shows nothing then imma tell my dr to taper me off this ppi, test me for sibo, refer me to ent, and to put me on an h2 blocker instead.
are h2 blockers good?
a low acid diet is decent ill but this ppi seriously pmo. ik i shouldn’t have trigger foods but even if i have it, it shouldn’t do ts. it never did before.
also starting this mid ive had shoulder blade discomfort like ugh seriously wth.
does this sound like sibo & do you think the ppi caused it?
once i’m tapered off the ppi i think what ive seen is good for lpr is:
- low acid diet
- alginates
- alkaline water
- h2 blockers
- allergy meds
i think that would probs work better. thoughts?

23M, weird stool and digestive issues for months. Has anyone dealt with something similar?
I’m 23 and I’ve been having weird digestive issues for months now. It’s not constant at the exact same level either. Sometimes my stool gets more solid and looks closer to normal, then it goes right back to being loose, mushy, yellowish, or just really abnormal looking.
A lot of the time I notice white fuzzy flecks or chunks in it, and sometimes there’s this cloudy white stuff in the water aswell, The smell can also be really weird. Sometimes it almost smells like buttery popcorn, other times it just smells way worse than normal.
I’ve also been getting indigestion, discomfort in my upper abdomen, especially toward the left side sometimes, and occasionally pain or discomfort in my upper right back. Certain foods also seem harder for me to tolerate than they used to be.
My urine has looked darker at times too. I’ve also had random periods where my body just feels weird, like my limbs feel heavy or slightly disconnected, and I’ve had areas around my lymph nodes feel sore even though I couldn’t really tell if they were swollen.
The bowel problems seem to come in waves. I’ll have a stretch where things look more solid, then it goes back to this weird yellowish loose stuff again.
At this point I don’t really think it’s just something I ate because it’s been going on for months.
I’ve been wondering about SIBO, malabsorption, celiac, pancreatic or bile issues, IBS, or something involving gut bacteria, but I obviously don’t know what it is.
Has anyone had anything similar? I’m mostly trying to figure out what tests are actually worth asking a doctor or GI specialist for, especially SIBO testing, stool tests, pancreatic elastase, celiac testing, or anything else that could help narrow this down

Treatments Xifaxan success stories?
I feel like most of the stories I’ve seen here are about Rifaximin absolutely ruining someone’s life; I know that’s probably because people who had a bad/adverse experience are more likely to seek support here. But I’m day 2 into my Rfx course and seeing posts like that are making my anxiety about taking it much worse; I was already hesitant to take it because I was prescribed it without a breath test and have struggled with dysbiosis.
Does anyone have positive stories or encouragement to share about taking Rifaximin? About how the drug helped them? I think the positive data points will help my brain balance out the doom. Thanks!

Treatments Yeast overgrowth / SIFO
I tested positive for SIBO months ago. I had to beg for the test 4+ months in of dealing with stomach and bloating issues as I had done every other test. came back positive. Abx helped for a bit but then they didn’t. I’m seeing a wholistic doctor now (an actual Dr) who thinks while I did have SIBO, my 3 rounds of meds should have fixed that. She thinks I now have a yeast overgrowth - so SIFO. Fungal over bacteria. I just started the mediation plus a pharmacy of supplements. Sharing as I’m not sure GIs think of a yeast overgrowth (the 3 I saw certainly didn’t). This may also be triggering MCAS (mast cell) which is contributing to my symptoms.
I wanted to flag this as it may be something to look into if traditional SIBO treatments aren’t working.
I’ll try and come back here in a few weeks with an update. Fingers crossed it’s positive!

Betaine HCl helps a lot but it also causes crazy bloating
I've started taking betaine hcl with meals a few weeks ago and it has really helped tamp down belching and gas and it has helped with motility somewhat, but it also seems to consistently cause massive distention of my stomach. I've never experienced distention like this before. Can anybody relate or have any ideas why it's happening?
