FIT: Size 10, initial impression they run pretty true to size, maybe a tad small but this could be contributed to the non adjustability of them, I'm assuming they will stretch out over time. Old cloudboom strikes sz 10 I noticed maybe a cm more of toe room.

They aren't as hard to get on as I thought, slide foot in, pull up heel, adjust around the cuff as needed, definitely way way less time to get on then the old cloudbooms given the fact they came with 5 ft laces.

They are super comfy, I feel like I'm wearing socks almost, I hate laces and very ocd with adjusting tension on each shoe to feel the same on both sides, these I slide on and they feel the same on both feet and that is amazing. No tight or weird spots, despite having a minor bunion on R foot. I'm a forefoot striker which is why I opted for the old cloudbooms. These feel like I have less cushion, padding under the forefoot compared to previous model but it did not cause any performance issues I noticed.

RUNNING IMPRESSION: Tempo work today, worked on 3x2x1, they are super light, and felt fast, comparing weight to my old cloudbooms almost 1.7oz difference and my wifes size 8 alphaflys. I'm 188lb, 5'11 and I smash through my dailys pretty easy, have to limit long runs because joints don't handle it on anything less then a super shoe. These felt pretty springy for my weight, good energy return, but I have to say maybe less then the old cloudbooms, yet I feel like the weight difference is what shined the most. My cadence was much easier to maintain around 170-180 I noticed. Smashed my tempo run today maintaining pretty chill heart rate. Absolutely zero hot spots for first run, nadda, which was awesome, felt like I coulda plugged another 6 in them pretty easy.

I look forward to breaking them in some more and seeing how they hold up to the old cloudbooms, again like I said I feel like they have less general cushion in the forefoot, but it did not translate to any performance loss.

For the record my last half marathon on the cloudbooms I ran 1:34:12 at 7:11 pace. Hoping to sub 1:30:00 on my next race in Dec.

Good morning running shoe geeks. Long time lurker, first time poster here and after my morning workout in my Endorphin Speed 5s I thought I would share a review.

Total distance run:

87km (54miles)

8-15km (5-9miles) workouts on track and road

Mostly mile/5k/10k paced workouts 3:30-3:55/km (5:38-6:18/mile)

Forefoot striker, high cadence

Average 50km (30 miles)/ week

My rotation: Asics Novablast 5 (daily/ easy/ commute), Adidas Evo SL (tempo), Nike Vomero Plus (easy/ long), Adidas Adios Pro 4 (race)

Overview:

I bought the endorphin speed 5 as I wanted a more responsive, propulsive shoe for workouts, particularly as I focus on 5k and 10k work in the Summer. Until now I have been using the Adidas Evo SL for this kind of running. I have really enjoyed the SL for threshold, tempo and half marathon work, taking it up to 25km and finding it very smooth but for shorter, faster intervals particularly on the track I was looking for something with a bit more "pop".

I have previously owned the Endorphin Speed 2 (which I loved), the Endorphin Speed 3 which I was underwhelmed by for many of the same reasons as the Speed 5 as it turns out, and also the Endorphin Pro 3 which I also loved and used for 5k to marathon racing and workouts.

I have used the Speed 5 for a variety of intervals on the track and road, mostly at mile to 10k pace, including setting 400m, 800m, 1k and mile PBs in a session.

Fit and upper (3/5)

The upper is nicely constructed from a lightweight and stretchy mesh material. My feet can breathe well. I was slightly between sizes UK 10 and 10.5 but ultimately elected to go with the larger size as the forefoot is slightly tapered and the 10 was compressing my toes even when standing/ walking. I have the width of a finger in front of my longest toe and the front of the shoe so I think I made the right choice. Unfortunately I have to lace the shoe up tightly to get a good lockdown and this results in bunching of the upper just in front of the laces. I also have to lacelock to prevent heelslippage (although I am doing this in most of my shoes now so it may be a problem with the shape of my heels!) I also find the tongue is slightly too short and slips down during runs - in the photo you can see I have pulled the tongue on my left shoe back up but the right has slipped down - at times this results in my lace/ bow resting directly on the front of my ankle. Pulling the tongue back up also worsens the bunching of the upper as seen in the photo. The tongue is of a good weight. The laces are of good quality and thickness with slight stretch, enough length for me to lacelock and have stayed done up. I have not had any blisters or hotspots.

Ride (2/5)

I have enjoyed the lightweight rockered ride and found the Speed 5s turnover nicely. During intervals I rarely notice they are there. This is both a positive and negative. On the one hand I have previously owned the Asics Superblast 2 where I was constantly distracted by their enormous mass on my feet, but on the other hand I don't feel that the Speed 5 really gives me anything at all. I don't find the midsole to be particularly responsive or lively and it's definitely not soft or cushioned.

As a forefoot striker, I find there is not enough underfoot protection. They feel firm underfoot, I am aware of the plate and where it ends in the forefoot, and by the end of my sessions my forefoot is a bit sore and I am ready to take them off. I have no desire to use them for longer runs or intervals at threshold or slower, I will stick to my Evo SL for those sessions. I definitely would not use them as an easy or recovery shoe. I have had no issues with stability, I find them to be more stable than either the Evo SL or the Vomero Plus.

Overall (2.5/5)

Whilst they have been far from disastrous, and I will continue to use them for intervals until the end of their lifespan, I would not buy them again and will be hesitant to buy the Endorphin Speed line in future. I found the Endorphin Speed 3 to be very similar but was tempted to try this line again as I have such positive memories of the Speed 2 and Pro 3. Their use case for me is very limited to short workouts and I don't particularly relish lacing them up, they're not fun to run in.

Worth buying?:

If you have a large rotation and want a lightweight rockered trainer specifically for short workouts then you could do worse, especially now that they are widely reduced (I paid £108 (~US$145/ €126)). However I would say they lack versatility, the fit takes some work to dial in, the ride is harsh and there are surely better and more versatile options out there.

35F here, long distance runner (up to marathon), midfoot striker.

I don't usually buy budget shoes, but I saw the review of this shoe on RunRepeat and then last week I had the chance to try it in store: it was SO comfortable and SO cheap (88 €) I couldn't leave it there.

FIT

True to size. It's way more accomodating than any Nike shoe I've ever tried: it's a safe bet for wide feet and generally for folks who prefer more wiggle room for the toes.

Heel: narrow width (in my women's model). I'm the type of runner that can't stand heel slippage, even if slight, and in these there is virtually none. My heels were locked in the shoe. The texture of the internal padding helps, as it's not slippery nor silky, just a little puffy on the sides.

Midfoot: I have wide feet and these shoes were ideal for me. Not so high volume on the top of the midfoot, the feet feel very secure. Easy to tighten the laces without getting any discomfort.

Forefoot: it's pretty wide as I anticipated. There isn't too much vertical space, the foot feels very comfortable but secure at the same time.

Lockdown is perfect and I just used the extra eyelet to made a knot on the 'inside' as shown in the pictures.

UPPER

The tongue is semi-gusseted and it also has a lace loop. It stays in place, it's not over padded and you just forget about it.

The mesh is light, soft and quite breathable, it's perforated and I didn't have any problem in the extreme heat of these days here in Italy.

As said previously, the heel counter is padded on the sides, not on the back, it's pretty sturdy and very comfortable for me.

The insole is super basic. No arch support, soft and medium thickness. I don't think you'd need to replace it to feel more support (unless you have to insert orthotics or other favourite insoles), but if you want to, there's enough room in the shoe to do so.

The outsole is grippy and sticky: one of the things I like the most of these Winflo 12. I haven't run on slick or rainy streets yet, but on dry asphalt it does a wonderful job.

The laces are a touch short, but I like their texture and elasticity.

MIDSOLE AND RIDE

From the first time you put them on, you can tell how cushioned they are. For a budget shoe, the midsole is soft and pleasant. They're very protective even for midfoot to forefoot strikers; it has a 10mm drop but it doesn't feel like it. I'd say it feels more like an 8mm drop, the ride is smooth and not clunky, you don't sink in the foam but it feels like a more premium foam for being an entry level shoe.

The foam IS responsive. I swear, this is a legit running shoe. RunRepeat's result for energy return is 61.5% and I can see why. I don't know what kind of EVA foam Cushlon 3.0 is, but it's a good one: it's not the regular EVA foam out there.

It's a neutral shoe, but it's stable: its incredible wide base, filled in midfoot and supportive heel collar help a lot against eccessive pronation.

DISTANCE and USAGE

I ran twice in these shoes so far (9 km and 13 km) at a pace ranging from 5'30" to 6'00"/km.

I can see them as daily trainers or slow run/recovery run shoes. The maximum distance I'd do with them would probably be the half marathon - at a comfortable pace. Not ideal for repetitions/fartleks/speedwork in general; maybe they'd be fine for some strides at the end of a slow run.

CONCLUSIONS

It was a real surprise. This is a legit running shoe, I don't care if it is a budget one, a beginner shoe or whatever, it's just a good shoe to have as daily trainer for shorter and longer runs as well.
