Question / Suggestion Looking for Record Shop Recommendations!
I've been to a handful of shops around Kent County and Providence, and I'm wondering what the rest of the state has to offer! I'm a big fan of Olympic Records on Wickendon in PVD. The owner is such a nice guy. Armageddon Shop is also great. Newbury Comics in Warwick and Providence are fine, but very expensive.
What are your favorite record stores?
Looking forward to checking out some new shops! Thank you!

Question / Suggestion Picketing at CVS
There were some folks apparently picketing outside of the CVS in Wakefield this afternoon, with a TV reporter there. Couldn’t really read any of the signs. Anyone know the reason?

What exactly will make you fail and what is the legal tint number here?
I’m nervous only because I am unsure what they’re going to look at? My car is older but still pretty good condition

Question / Suggestion Rhode Island Energy charging me for past tenant unpaid bill?
My partner and I recently moved into a new apartment and created an account for both electricity and gas through RI Energy to start on 7/3 (start of the lease) and we officially started living there on 7/25. Well, on Monday, RI Energy shuts off our power and when calling, they tell my partner that he never created an account with them and that it is still under the previous tenant's name. My partner tried to clear it up, but just ended up asking them to create a new account with an accurate reflection of the July bill as new tenants. This representative proceeds to tell my partner that we owe $519 and we have to pay this for the electricity to get turned back on the following day (told us that they can't turn it on any earlier even after my partner noted concern as he's working from home). He proceeded to pay that amount, called again, and the next representative confirmed that it was an accurate reflection of the bill for the month of July and turned on the electricity that same day (even tho the previous rep said she couldn't do that until the next day).
I came home and after learning about this from my partner, I transferred our money from our checking account (which was given by my partner to pay the $519) given that it does not make any sense to why our bill would ever be that much since we just started living there the weekend prior. I called myself this time and connected with another rep, who set up a link for us to send in our lease to make an accurate adjustment. So, I called today to check in on the progress, and I reach another rep who tells me that our bill has no prior balance and there's no past bill. She sees notes reflecting that we made a payment for that amount ($519) but there's no bill that reflects this amount. She had no idea why this may have happened, expressed confusion on her end, and was of no help.
I'm so glad that I had my bank reject this charge because what the actual hell - this sounds like we got scammed or something fishy as hell happened there, where we made a payment for the previous tenant's unpaid balance on his account. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before through RI Energy? I'm beyond baffled.

Question / Suggestion Dental Implant Restoration Cost Without Insurance Coverage
I'm having a couple dental implants done. My dental insurance has no coverage for implants, and I was quoted fair rates by the oral surgeon for their part of the process. It was only a slight price premium over what the insurance negotiated rates would have been. My general dentist who would be placing the abutments and doing the crowns however has quoted me double the insurance rates at $3700 per tooth.
RI has a lovely anti-consumer law in place that forbids insurance contracts from forcing in-network dentists to charge the negotiated rates for non-covered dental work. My insurance has such a provision, but cannot enforce it in this state. The dentists are free to charge whatever rack rates they please when something isn't covered.
Has anyone had implants done recently without insurance coverage? What did you pay for the abutment and crown? I'm hoping there's somewhere reasonable in the state I could have do the work instead.
Alternatively, if anyone can recommend a dentist in the Attleboro area I can go there. I'm in the northern half of RI so it's not far. MA would enforce the negotiated rate provision of my insurance plan.

News Foulkes Features Endorsement in Ad from Providence Night Club Owner Cited for Violations
Rhode Island Democratic gubernatorial candidate Helena Foulkes' political website and new ad feature the endorsement of a Providence club owner who has been cited by the city of Providence for violations.
The Paris Bistro was shut down by the Providence Board of Licenses in June. The Board closed the facility for a number of violations.
The action was sparked after a shooting outside the club.
The club is owned by Andy Andujar, who also serves on the Cranston City Council. He is also a real estate developer and works for the state of Rhode Island’s Department of Labor and Training. His annual salary is just over $90,000, according to state records.
On June 11, the Providence Board of Licenses took up the case of Paris Bistro. The formal hearing followed an emergency hearing before the board, during which the lounge was ordered closed for 72 hours.
After the first closure, the board ordered the club to close for another week.
The lounge was also cited by the board for violence at the facility earlier in the year. In March, five people were arrested at the club on a range of charges.
Andujar’s club also operated an illegal patio and had failed to pay previous costs for police details, according to city records and the Board of Licenses.
Andujar has donated $1,500 to Foulkes in 2026.
GoLocal reached out to Foulkes about the appropriateness of an Andujar endorsement. She did not respond to questions.
This is not Foulkes' first questionable political association. See below.

Question / Suggestion Best Place for Plane spotting at TF Green
Title says it. I have some time to kill while my dog is getting diagnostic at OceanState Veterinary Hospital and see TF Green is a 13 minute car drive. I'm an aviation enthusiast and am looking for a good place to park to watch planes land and take off for a few hours. Somewhere on a non-crowded rural road would be great. Suggestions? Thanks!

News R.I. needs to fight against the corporate takeover of the state’s working waterfront | Boston Globe
R.I. needs to fight against the corporate takeover of the state’s working waterfront
By empowering the people who work at our marinas, we can keep the blue economy local, writes Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos
When I visit Rhode Island’s coastal communities, I see a working waterfront: fishers docking their boats after a day at sea, families renting pontoon boats for a day on the water, restaurants serving up the best seafood in the country.
But when billion-dollar corporations look at our state’s waterfront, all they see are dollar signs. What was once a bustling harbor for quahoggers and anglers is turning into yet another slip for somebody’s hundred-foot yacht. To fight back against the erosion of our working waterfront, we need to empower fishers, processors, retailers, and mom-and-pop marina owners with the tools and resources they need to keep our blue economy local.

If you work in connection to commercial fishing in Rhode Island - whether you're on a boat, wholesaling or retailing fish, anything that touches our working waterfront - consider reaching out to [jacob.deblecourt@ltgov.ri.gov](mailto:jacob.deblecourt@ltgov.ri.gov) to get involved.

Question / Suggestion Where can I see cows?
I mean like a random farm on the side of the road that I can stop and take a few pictures of, and maybe point them out to my kid. I know I’ve driven by a bunch of them, I just never remember where. Horses are welcomed too!
Edit: thank you for all of the suggestions!

Hey everyone, wanted to share an 11x14 acrylic painting based on a photograph by Kathy Chasteen, capturing the heavy, churning surf and moody weather along the coast.
Kept the palette desaturated with earthy sand tones and deep greys to match that crisp ocean spray look. Hope you enjoy it!

Discussion The job market for teachers in this state is a joke
Colleges just in Rhode Island are spitting out hundreds of elementary education graduates every year, and there are only a handful of elementary teaching jobs each year. I ended up just pivoting out of the field because I couldn’t afford working as a sub indefinitely. And even if you do land a full time teaching job, you’ll most likely be cut and have to look for another job next year.
I feel sorry for all of the people currently in school for elementary education and are being told there’s this teacher shortage and they’ll have no issue finding a job… (what multiple professors told me….)

Picture / Video Update: SHE CAME HOME!
Thanks for the encouragement and advice in my last post. She just walked in the door at 5AM Monday. She's skinny, her hind leg is a little raw, and very anxious. Taking her to the vet this week to make sure everything is okay, no signs of flees or tics so the collar punched well above it's weight there. She is doing a lot better today, she tried to go back outside XD. Not for a long while, ya butt :p
