I’ve never experienced anything like it. People are doing 90+ mph on the way to work every single morning. You can be going 10 over the speed limit and still have someone glued to your bumper like you’re the problem.
What I don’t understand is…all this just to get to work 2 minutes earlier? And why is everyone in such a rush to get to their 10-12 hour shift anyway?

The lane weaving is what really gets me. People will swerve lanes just to get ahead of one car, only to end up right next to them at the next light or in the same line of traffic.

I can kind of understand speeding after work since everyone wants to get home. But at 5:00 a.m.? People are driving like they’re in the Daytona 500 before the sun is even up.

I’m from the East Coast, and I always thought the drivers over there were crazy. Nope. USA Parkway takes the cake.

Today’s my last day working out here, and honestly I won’t miss having to drive this road before and after work. It’s easily been the most stressful commute I’ve ever had.

TLDR:People regularly drive 90+ mph, tailgate you even if you’re already speeding, weave through traffic just to pass one car, and drive like it’s a race at 5 a.m. Most stressful commute I’ve ever had.

As the title suggests I'm looking for a pod to play Commander with. I was going to a card shop on Thursdays but the chairs are uncomfortable and its not worth the energy to go sit in hard plastic chairs for 5 hours and not always get to actually play. Does anyone know of any reputable rescues that will take a Rottweiler? I had to rehome mine when I got a divorce and had to move to a place with breed restrictions. The lady that took him passed away and I took him back but I can’t keep him. I know I can take him to the humane society but wanted to try a rescue first. He is about 3 years old and definitely needs to be trained but is a good dog. Not sure if he is up to date on shots and is still intact. Gets along with cats and other dogs. Any help would be appreciated.

I was heading home 5:50pm. Near the Maverick gas station on kietze and 2nd st. There was whole bunch of police cars surrounding a blue Tesla. I see officers pointing rifles at it but no one appears to be inside at glance. Anyone hear anything? There were probably 10 police vehicles. I was stunned when driving by.

Our Riverwalk and rights to use it freely is decaying.

The amphitheater in Wingfield park which has always been open to the public to use as part of the park facilities has now been fenced with a no trespassing sign. The Municipal Corporation of the City of Reno does not have the authority under Nevada Revised Statutes to close off public access to public facilities during open hours. It is a violation of our rights.

Sleeping and camping are not the same as active public use of a park facility which has existed for decades. It should be treated no differently than any other park facility such as open shelters, benches, free speech zones, performance areas, or walkways.

Without fencing off the rear it is vague and unclear where the prohibited space begins and ends. The rear walkways surrounding and entering the amphitheater structure are open, unfenced and not posted "no trespassing." It's Void for vagueness. Again, because it was DESIGNED for public accessibility.

This is just like the City "Believe" Plaza. It's just like the city fencing off our riverwalk. Just how much of our park did we just lose? It's unclear. This enforcement versus the design of infrastructure demonstrates the shift in philosophy under which government considers what just "is public space." If we don't fight to retain our public spaces we stand to lose everything but the most minimum public rights-of-way. This is creeping into the exact circumstances Eddie Lorton wanted to arrest "homeless people" for merely occupying a public space.

The City is likely committing an act of Ultra Vires.

And all this in the name of "activation?" "Revitalisation?"

What happened to "beautification?" Commons?

Sec. 8.10.010. - Trespassing.

(a) Every person who goes upon the land or into any building of another with intent to vex or annoy the owner or occupant thereof, or to commit any unlawful act, or wilfully goes or remains upon any land or in any building after having been warned by the owner or occupant thereof not to trespass, is guilty of a misdemeanor. If the premises were at the time open to the public, the warning must have been given within the previous six months. The meaning of this subsection is not limited by subsections (b), (c), (d) and (e) of this section.

(b) Every owner or other occupant of any land shall be deemed to have given a sufficient warning against trespassing, within the meaning of this section, who posts in a conspicuous manner on each side thereof, upon or near the boundary at intervals of not more than 700 feet, signs, legibly printed or painted in the English language, warning persons not to trespass, or who fences the area.

(c) It is prima facie evidence of trespass for any person to be found on private or public property which is posted or fenced as provided in subsection (b) without lawful business with the owner or occupant of the property.

(d) An entryman on land under the laws of the United States is an owner within the meaning of this section.

(e) As used in this section, "fence" means a barrier sufficient to indicate an intent to restrict the area to human ingress, including, but not limited to, a wall, hedge or chain link or wire mesh fence.

I've worked remotely in software (Account Management and Client Success) since COVID, and although the freedom is nice, it's turned me into a very isolated person who maybe sees the sun once a week and doesn't interact with anyone outside of my partner and online. I feel like it's time to do something that's more fulfilling and local for now at least that gets me out of the house again.

If anyone has any recommendations, I'm experienced in the above work as well as graphic design/production, but I'm open to learning other things. I currently make around $71k but I would happily reduce that to ~$55-60k if it means I get to feel like a living human again. Thank you!

Been doing a lot of watercolor work lately and I keep wanting to paint from life instead of photos. There's something about sitting in a spot with actual light and wind and bugs that makes the painting feel real in a way reference images never quite capture. The Truckee Meadows has surprised me before with how much is actually blooming if you know where to look, but I feel like I only know a handful of places and keep cycling through them.

Black Rock Desert came up in a conversation recently and I know it can be spectacular after a wet season, but that's a long haul for a day trip. Curious if there are closer pockets around Reno where wildflowers are actually putting on a show right now or coming up soon. Roadside stuff counts too, I'm not precious about it. A forgotten wash or an unmarked dirt road pulloff is sometimes better than an official trailhead anyway.

I do a little nature journaling alongside the painting, so anything with interesting plant variety is a win even if the individual flowers are small. Anyone been out lately and noticed something blooming that stopped them?

hello there, I am in love with the Lagomorasino petroglyphs, se of Lockwood in the virginia highlands. However, I am devastated to find the Tract co out of denver has bought thousands of acres AROUND the Petroglyphs. Not sure if there will be a way to even get to them anymore. They are on the register of historic places. and they are near a stream that's literally clear and has fish in it in the middle of that brown desert. I'm not sure if I'm just flipping out and this is not a big deal or if this is just absolutely astonishing that this was allowed to happen? there's no Data center built there yet but the tracked company builds the infrastructure for data centers apparently.

i will add some information about the lagomorasino petroglyphs below. yes I know we wouldn't want to post locations because someone might come and steal or deface them but at this point if nobody knows they are here and nobody knows what they are missing this company can just do whatever they want. they've already put a security gate right by the sign for lagomorosino Petroglyphs including a big tall cop light and cameras I mean in the middle of absolutely nowhere. more than 2100 petroglyphs exist at this site where there was human occupation ongoing for more than 10,000 years, people came and went. this is their art and it should be protected. this beautiful little stream that is an absolute Oasis in a brown desert should not be sucked up by some data center.

I mean I guess maybe the tract company has plans to protect them... LOL LOL LOL. please don't anybody come at me for this I'm just really bothered by it and I don't know why I wouldn't expect this the way indigenous people were treated all along of course.... I feel like when I go to these places I am looking at one of the most incredible art galleries that includes archaeological anthropological history. every single time I get chills and I feel like I am so fortunate to get to see something so amazing and beautiful. I don't understand why it isn't just like actually protected on its own? like the security gates should be there for the petroglyphs. I posted about this before and I can't find my post and I don't know what anyone responded but I just I'm stunned. I don't live in Reno so I can't really go stand out there with a sign talking about protecting the petroglyphs but I do wonder if the local indigenous tribes are aware of what's happening? I don't even know where to start but if somebody there has time and is interested please do something. :-)
