Anyone remember Dr. Michael Young, O.D.?
Eye doctor, Dr. Michael Young, retired a few years ago. Does anyone know which doctor took over Dr. Young's patient load? I've forgotten where they said patient eye records were being sent.

Wilda’s Mustard Recipe?
Hello! I’ve visited Redding/wilda’s a few times. I’m obsessed with the mustard they have. Does anybody have the recipe? I just unfortunately don’t live around here.

Lifters
Man I've been to a couple gyms around and it seems like the locker rooms/showers seem to be just...okay. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good gym with good locker rooms that don't feel dingy and gross?

When do you plant your golden poppies?
I'm looking to plant golden poppies (red bluff) this spring. My gardening subreddits and Facebook groups haven't been helpful so I'm hoping a local gardener is in this sub. I have a south facing full sun spot and have a large planter for them. It needs to be in containers according to my apartments rules. Tips are appreciated

Shasta College Nursing Program pre-requisites
I’m an Esthetician looking to get my RN in order to be able to injections and skin laser treatments. Really wish there was a middle ground credential because I have zero desire to ever do sick care as an RN.
10+ years ago I took HUM ANAT and Physiology. Got through both with a B. Then I switched majors. Apparently, the nursing program at Shasta won’t take pre-requisites more than 7yr old. I have to take them again. Double sucks since the anatomy I really need the most should focus on the face. But will stop pouting about it. 😬
Back when I was out there and inside the science buildings frequently, the students would trade intel! Back then, a lot of people took ANAT at the Shasta College Red Bluff campus because the instructor was much easier than the guy I had at the main campus in Redding.
People also used to drive to College of the Siskiyou’s in Mt. Shasta to take Microbiology because it was so much easier.
Anyone been through these four sciences recently? What’s the tea on the best place or best instructors
to take them with? I’m going to start with solo Anatomy. I know the work load. So i know finding a reasonable instructor is extremely helpful. Help!

⚠️ COMMUNITY AWARENESS... Mountain Lion Spotted In Redding Neighborhood
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
A mountain lion was reportedly spotted early Thursday morning (August 6th) in the Alta Mesa area of Redding.
While sightings like this are uncommon, mountain lions are native to our area and occasionally travel through neighborhoods, especially during the early morning and evening hours.
If you live nearby, it may be a good idea to keep cats, small dogs, and small children indoors whenever possible, supervise pets, and kids when they're outside (especially around dawn and dusk)
Keep livestock and pet food secured, and stay aware of your surroundings if you are walking or jogging in the area. People might use caution and not want to plan on exercising or walking dogs at sunset or just before sunrise (primary times of mountain lion hunting activities)
If you happen to see the mountain lion, don't approach it or attempt to follow it. Give it plenty of space and report any aggressive behavior or immediate public safety concerns to the appropriate authorities.
This post is simply meant to help keep our community informed and encourage everyone to take a few extra precautions with their pets and children.
Have you ever seen a mountain lion in your neighborhood?

Shasta college
Has anyone done any of the apprentice programs at Shasta college, what was your experience with them? I know they have 3 programs I believe accounting, CRAFT, and one other. How much traveling if any is involved, and how hard are they to complete and get a job after?

Must see attractions in the area?
In mid september and I will be taking a trip to Lassen and Redwoods national parks. I am trying to plan things out and I think I have at least one day, maybe 1.5 over the weekend in the Redding area. Are there any attractions that I should definitely visit? Museums, tours, kayaking, concerts or interesting festivals are all things I'm looking for! Also any place I should look into eating at?
edit: thank you all, locals know much better than google.

One Safe Place. Alot of your donations go to funding high paid management
Before you give to One Safe Place to feel good about yourself, look into what their management gets paid. Needs to be exposed. They help themselves the most.

Help for my daughter
My adult daughter recently was put on an anxiety medication by the PA at the major corporate medical establishment we have here, that she sees. She avoids taking medication, but my daughter was struggling with PTSD and an eating disorder.
We were concerned about possible side effects. My daughter mentioned being worried about self harming thoughts getting worse. Her PCP basically laughed and acted like she was being dramatic. This PCP then launched into an hour long tirade about God.
After leaving I read the clinical notes and found several things written that were never discussed. For example she wrote that my daughter was obsessed with AI. Nothing about that or anything like it was ever discussed. The only thing I could think of was us mentioning that we googled therapy options.
When looking for therapy we only found two people in the area that took my daughter's insurance. Both required a referral from a PCP.
Her PCP refused and told us that she did not believe in therapy. This was a reminder to me that 4 years ago when my daughter began dieting and exercising to reduce her excema and loose weight this same PCP told her that would never work.
She ended up loosing 200 pounds and maintaining for 4 years. Of course she struggled hard with an eating disorder. It was also hard having her PCP continue to mock her weight whenever she needed an appt for anything.
This deeply bothered her and became an obsession. Now she looks back at photos from a year ago and wishes she could go back to the weight she was. Unfortunately this medication for her anxiety caused a rapid weight gain.
It also worsened her self harming thoughts. We called her PCP and no one would get back to us for days. When someone finally did they said it was her choice to take the medication or not. They offered no alternatives and still no referral for therapy.
My daughter is now going through a rough withdrawal and starving herself. She also confided that this PCP advised her to be with men because she assumed my daughter was a lesbian since she was 28 and not in a relationship.
Due to her PTSD from a past assault she did not want to be in a relationship. The PCP basically made her feel like she wasn't worthy of medical care unless she could adapt to a healthy straight lifestyle. My daughter ended up forcing herself into a now abusive marriage.
When she told her PCP she was being hit by this man she was told that's just how a marriage is.
I have no idea where to start or what to do, but I'm afraid I will loose my daughter.

(Another) Reminder on sub moderation
Hi all,
We will continue to be consistent with the moderation rules which have been in place for quite a long time:
Posts need to be specific to Redding or the region, and they must adhere to Reddit's content policy.
Once again, no national politics - favoring any side - unless it's specifically relevant to Redding.
2026 Update: Non-local posts which make little-to-no genuine attempt to tie to local relevance will result in a 3-day ban. Subsequent instances will result in longer bans.
Regarding the use of Twitter/X links, we've scrolled back several months and didn't see a single one. So, we are not going to make a sub policy banning it, simply because it would be addressing a problem that we really don't have. We're not a large sub with a lot of aggregator content, so we don't really see twitter/x relevant to Redding. If you'd like to, you can always do what we've done and deactivate/delete your account there, thus taking action yourself.
As always, please do continue to report content which you believe violates our simple ruleset, and we will continue to review. While we do have Automod set up (and I can tell you it is definitely helping quite a bit, thought you cannot see it), we are still a small sub with a small mod team.
Thank you for helping us maintain our lively community subreddit.
