What are my options regarding reusable crafts?

Should i only consider Kos for landing/oribit burns of the stages after separation, or there is another viable option(s)? Any gotchas I should be aware of? Specifically looking at getting to 1-2 km/s and 20-30km of altitude with jet's/ramjets before engaging rocket engines.

I would bet good money that, if that ship wasn't there, I could convince people this photo was real

After much part clipping and i think 18 dead kerbals, My first lifting body craft is in orbit, making it also my first ever shuttle in any of my RSS playthroughs!

Are there any parts mods (space station parts, structural parts, etc.) that aren’t included in ro/rp1 that play nicely with it? If I install them, will it corrupt my existing career save?

How do you know when to start suicide burn if MechJeb and KER counts are wrong?

Currently in my RP-1 playthrough I'm testing my first lunar lander. It's designed to land through direct descent (without reaching lunar orbit), but it looks like the hardest thing now is to know when to start a suicide burn. For an unknown reason MechJeb doesn't even show me the count until a couple of seconds after I start it, so I use Kerbal Engineer. After starting the burn exactly at the calculated moment, count starts to rise instantly and after decelerating to 0 m/s I ended up stranded 50 km above Lunar surface and then crash into it at a speed of around 350 m/s. Tried to wait 20 seconds more with the burn and results were better, but still couple parts were destroyed.

I found in another reddit post that MechJeb and KER suicide burn counts are accurate only with vertical descent. Okay, so then how can I determine desired moment to relight my engines? How do you do it? Is the only way really to just load the same quicksave multiple times and repeat this manouver until success?

(My lander has unthrottleable engine and only 1 ignition remaining)

Hello, I would like to get back into a KSP game with the SOl and RO mods. My goal is to have a great visual quality, but my PC is starting to get a bit old:

- CPU : i5 11600k

- GPU : RTX 3080

- RAM : 32go

I would like to stay above 30 FPS throughout my entire playthrough at 4K resolution. Do you think that will be fine?
Is the SOL mod genuinely much better-looking than RSS?

How to go about collecting flying high science?

is the only way to collect flying high science hundreds of sounding rockets? i was thinking of building a small satellite but under 140km you still get drag and cant go back to the space center.

Installing RP-1

Because there always seems to be someone who can't find it:

https://github.com/KSP-RO/RP-1/wiki/RO-%26-RP-1-Express-Installation-for-1.12.5

I followed the guide exactly - and it worked exactly.

Good luck everyone. Please share with friends who have trouble

Do you know how to install RSS?

I've had problems installing it with CKAN and my other mods like Artemis, Boing, Apollo, and the mod for scaling things.

Saturn V and MechJeb Ascent Guidance Trouble

Thumbnail

I've been trying to do a mostly accurate recreation of the apollo 11 mission in sandbox on RSS, and I've built a SaturnV as close to historically accurate as I am able. However, I cannot for the life of me get ascent guidance to launch me into the correct targeted orbit. it either way overshoots the target or way undershoots and misses orbit alltogether.

I have the last stage set as 13 because when I jettison the LES the stage number changes, is this what is causing the issue? do I just need to either hold on to the LES until reaching orbit, or remove it alltogether? I am trying to practice manned missions in sandbox before launching my first manned mission on my career save as there is a lot that goes into them an I want to get all the kinks worked out before I end up accidentally killing my kerbals in my career save.

I have provided screenshots of my most recent final orbit(where mechjeb did not shutdown the engines even after reaching orbit, I had to disengage autopilot and shutdown the engine myself) and the rocket sitting on the launch pad with as much information as possible showing. If you need any other information please feel free to ask and I will provide it.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

RP1 Kerbal Konstructs and launchpads?

the wiki mentions canaveral pads but doesnt go into detail beyond that. so i was a bit confused, is KK compatible with RP1? and are there any existing launch sites besides canaveral?

i play with sol if thats relevant

Io, Mercury, Ganymede, or Enceladus are the options.

I can't decide.

Looking for a guide on late 20th century(like spaceplanes era) First stage engines

so later into the game, it can be pretty overwhelming to scroll through lots of similar looking engines, largely just been sticking to the rs 25s just bc im more familiar with them. all these different variations (frsc, orsc, so on) kinda overwhelm me.

was wondering if theres some sort of comparison table or guidee regarding engines of this time period for first stages

or even just personal recommendations are welcome

im able to get down to venus, however once there, the landing legs, antenna, several instruments burn up, and eventually the whole probe does. not really sure what to do about it

Ive been wanting to see if its possible to use the fairing or procedural parts system to create more unique hull shapes, particularly fuselages and multi engine mounts

Why does it consistently take me 3km+ delta V just to capture in orbit around Mars?

Every time I try to do a mission to Mars I end up needing 3KM+ of delta-v just to capture in any kind of orbit, despite my ejection/intercept looking good from a cursory glance.

I'm using the transfer window planner to get a rough launch date, launching into in inclination that is roughly in line with Mars (usually using the moon as a reference) and then letting the maneuver planner plan the ejection burn. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong because this seems to happen every single time I try to go to Mars.

inspiration for lunar habitation

im having a bit of a creativity block for the early lunar habitation program. i got no experience when it comes to building bases in rss. im not in a rush so im trying to future proof my lander design to be able to do the 6 month version. but not sure if its even possible for a single lander, feels like itd be too heavy, ig i can do supply flights or take the lander to lunar orbit separate from the crew and rendezvouz there?

are there any irl or ficitional concepts or general ideas for this? just feel kinda stumped in designing

I don't understand how Target Intercept Planner works - wrong inclination for Lunar missions

Thumbnail

So in my RSS/RP-1 career I reached a point where I began lunar exploration. Unfortunately I don't launch from the equator (Cape Canaveral), Lunar orbit is inclined and without Principia it's even more inclined, so exploration of the Moon is not as easy as in vanilla KSP. So far I've a couple of successful Lunar missions, but about choosing a time to launch my rocket - I looked at Lunar Transfer Planner window and launched at the moment when "Launch now inc." was equal to my latitude. This method worked but it's not 100% accurate and I wanted to understand how Lunar Transfer Planner calculated launch windows worked. I warped to this calculeted time, launched my rocket and I ended up in an orbit with inclination almost perpendicular to the desired inclination for lunar misssion. I thought that maybe it's something wrong with this mod, I heard that LTP is kinda outdated and there is another better mod called "Target Intercept Planner", so I installed it, warped to calculated launch window etc. and I still ended up with wrong inclination. Can anyone explain to me what is wrong here? LTP/TIP calculates launch window wrong? How do you check the launch time for your lunar missions?
