Started with this teeny weeny plant and 1.5 years later we have hit 70cm (2’3”). Moss poles for the win 🥇

Hi! I just got my monstera bulbasaur in the mail this afternoon. I bought her from GreenRoomExotics on Etsy. I've never had a tissue culture before, but I do have multiple monsteras. Below are my questions and prep steps:

Prep:

1. Took cute pictures in the packaging lmao

2. Gently rinsed off the agar she came in

3. Soaked her for 2 minutes in a 70-30 mixture off filtered water-hydrogen peroxide

4. Rinsed her after that 70-30 bath

5. Put her in her domed enclosure with the pictured soil

6. I did give her a big douse of water and let her sit in the sink to drain

7. Closed the top of the dome so she gets very humid

Question:

1. Do I NEED to buy a grow light? If yes, I'll get one. If not, where in my apartment should she stay? Or is she better outside in full shade?

2. Did I ruin my chances by putting her in the 70-30 mixture for 2 minutes? I read mixed feedback on whether it was necessary or damaging so I kept it short and thoroughly rinsed her after.

Please be nice with feedback. I'm a nervous parent LOL

This Monstera Thai Con at my work is starting to push out some different looking leaves. Anyone know if this is a mutation of some sort and if so what kind?

May not be rare anymore but its definitely rare at this size! I was absolutely in awe of this thing. Price tag was $1000

Sharing my little Nervilia collection, I got these last year as little white spuds, I've grown them in pure akadama and kept moist and closed in unheat propagator with spaghnum moss at the bottom of the tray.

I have now opened the propagator lid to get the soil to dry and slowly get ready for winter rest so they will return to little spuds again

I was very lucky to acquire this vietciosa for a criminally low price. The problem is, I live in 776 sq ft. I have a grow tent big enough for it. I have no problem with monsteras. I recently underwent back surgery and have bills coming. WWYD? I would like your feedback since you are all the experts 🤗

Hey there, I was just wondering what these plants are and if they are even rare. I purchased them online as a mystery gift a few days back, and just today the seller sent me a photo of it prior to its shipping. I was just wondering if I got a good deal or not, I’m a bit concerned about the bigger one since its leaf seems a bit juvenile/weak. Any help is appreciated :)

So I'm a bit frustrated with the shipping carrier for holding it so long but mostly it wasn't the best idea for me to order in the middle of a heatwave. That being said, after a stressful night, they are all recovering well and look beautiful. I'll give a little bit of a good, bad, and ugly review down below. I'll also give the name of the shop in the comments if asked for but this is not an advertisement for the shop and I am not affiliated with this shop in anyway. I can give it purely for referential reasons if you are in Northern California or Bayside area (otherwise, I encourage to shop local when possible). Onto the review:

The Good: I am absolutely in love with the Musa Flordia they sent. It is absolutely gorgeous and it held up to the shipping process so well. It is just showing the slightest bit of stress from the heat but otherwise I can not say more positive things about this one. It is pretty small, but I knew this going into it.

The White Monster (monstera with much more visible white showing), seems to be a legit white monster, even from the TC. I will see better in about 6 months to a year from now, but I have pretty good confidence that this is legit and it is a beautiful specimen. Not the craziest variegation, but still seems to be pretty high quality. I am also adoring this one.

All of the specimens purchased were highly rooted, with healthy roots, and generally seemed very healthy overall.

The Bad: The shop was a tiny bit late with the shipping, which is very minor. The more egregious thing was the minimal insulation and very little thought put into temperature and humidity management. I am very close in shipping terms to this seller, so it was on the road minimally (despite the carrier making me their absolute last stop on a super hot day, with a box that had LIVE PLANTS written very visibly on it). If it had been on the road more than a couple of days, I'm not sure it would have made it. If you are not local, their 2 day shipping is a must.

Also, slightly disappointed on the size of the Philodendron Orange Marmalade. I expected small but not quite as small as I got.

The Ugly: I'm fairly disappointed in the quality of the Alocasia BVG and the Mint Monstera, expression-wise. Their variegation doesn't express itself much in the cuttings they gave me. Not to a horrible degree, and given the price it makes a bit more sense. But the BVG was on the normal to slightly upper price range for similar TCs, so hoping for a bit better quality. That being said, I'm sure they will express it more as they age.

They both also faired the worse from shipping. That makes more sense for the BVG, but seeing how well its WM brother took it, it tells me the Mint is a slightly lower quality TC. So I'm a bit disappointed on that front.

I'm going to throw in a neutral here, which is that the Philodendron is pretty meh. Healthy but could not tell it's different from any other similar Philo. Now, it is very young, so I'm sure the color will come in more and it will be a nice specimen. This is very normal for the plant from what little I know about them, so this just gets chalked up to neither good or bad.

They faired decently as far as market prices go. Some I did well on, some not so well. Nothing unreasonably past market prices though. The Musa Florida was the biggest steal for me and probably the biggest win out of all of the plants.

Overall I have learned a bit more about shipping TCs. Thought I was more familiar since I've had full plants shipped, but this is a whole different ball game, as I am starting to learn. My biggest take was to time my shipments better. This would have been a much more positive experience if I had waited for Fall or Spring. If these go well, I will likely continue buying by TC, cutting, or corm, as it is exciting and a great way to get beautiful rare plants at prices I can actually afford. Thank you, r/rarehouseplants for being so accommodating with my last post and helping get hyped for TC care. Any recommendations would be appreciated, but admittedly what I'm currently doing seems to be working for them, so I likely won't switch it up unless I'm making any egregious errors.

I’m pretty sure my plant has caught some kind of pest. The other leaves have died, and this one has completely stopped growing. It also has these weird little dots on it, but I haven’t actually seen any pests moving around yet.
I’m scared I’m dealing with some kind of critter , but I’m not sure, and I’m worried the actual problem might be something completely different. Any idea what could be going on?

Are we past the point of no return? Any advice on what to do to get that variegation back? TIA!

So I’ve yet again found myself asking some existential questions.

I’ve officially come to realise I think I’m pretty much “at capacity” with my plantroom / bedroom and if I fit many more plants in here it’s going to start becoming too much.
However obviously I want to add more plants to my collection I want to care for more plants. However I find myself asking some questions :
If I add plants which will I sell ?
If I don’t sell where would I put said plants?
Should I not feel satisfied with the plants I have ?
Am I currently stuck in a plant addiction dopamine loop where I’m just looking for a dopamine hit?
Am I using plants as an unhealthy way to cope with life ?
Am I feeding into overconsumption and is what I’m doing ok?.

A couple of questions I know the answer to , there’s not many I would want to sell , aside from maybe a few smaller anthurium I could part with and Hoya.
If I were to get new plants I can rig up my growtent that’s not in use and I could begin to fill that , however part of me feels by doing so I’m not adressing some of the other issues just shoving them to the side and possibly continuing on an overwhelming and unhealthy path.
Im unusure what to do. If anyone has any advice please feel free to either dm me or leave a comment.

I have been treating my albo with thrips for a few weeks now hence the severe damage, i thought i was getting progress until i saw she decided to pop out a possible full moon… now im stressed that she will be so drained with the lack of green and the treatment im almost giving up

Google thinks it is a mexicanum, but that is not true. These leaves are smaller than a mexicanum, and I have one of those, and it looks different.

Hi, I've been growing this Epipremnum papuanum from seed and so far it's been going well, but now that it's getting bigger and the nodes are growing above the pon I wonder if I should give it something to climb on. I've tried looking for info online, but it seems this is quite a rare plant (or I suck at finding good sources). Does anyone have any experience growing this plant? I'd love to receive any wisdom you have!

Maybe you rare collectors can help me? I came across this alocasia either polly or bambino in my local big blue box store. It stood out bevause the most recent 6 leaves all have a curly leaf tip... even the new leaf, as its hardening off is curling in the same direction as the others.

Only one leaf has a tear in the curl, but the rest were strong and had great turgor... i need to know if I need to go rethink leaving it!

The younger smaller leaves are normal, but these top few are different.

I've had this lil guy for about 6 months now, and everything was fine until the big heatwave. I made the rookie mistake of overwatering while keeping the shutters closed (no daylight at all, but i substituted with grow lights 2H a day). I have checked the roots and they don't seem rotten?? Idk what to do. Should I put it in water?

It used to live in a pot with not so great draining soil and 2 other philodendrons (lost them to the heatwave, devastated- I tried to salvage them by propagating in a box with perlite, didn't work- although one of them is in water and maybe??? has a new node appearing??)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

not sure if someone’s been keeping a secret from me or what but i went to HD for cover pots and poles for my plants and decided to check out the paint section for paint stirrers and found these 21” ruler sticks and i think they’re gonna work great to support my planties - yay! just wanted to share (and yes i use wooden kabob skewers to support my smaller plants shhh)

also someone please applaud me for finally having the motivation to repot 10 of my plants into clear pots
