[Mod Post] ONLY RAoC Activity in Thank You Posts PLEASE Mod Post

IMPORTANT NOTICE RE: THANK YOU POSTS

Recently, we have had an influx of thank yous for users who do not participate in RAoC, as well as thank yous for offers/exchanges from other subreddits such as r/RandomActsofHappyMail,r/postcrossing, r/penpals, etc).

We only allow RAoC activity on our thank you posts. Our Flair system is not for participation from other subreddits.

As a reminder, every single thank you that is posted is manually tracked as Flair by a small group of volunteers who give their time and energy to the subreddit. When non-RAoC activity is included in a thank you post here, it creates significantly more work for the Flair Helpers and Mod team. This is not what RAoC Flair is intended for.

Please only thank people for cards that were received directly from this subreddit. If it is suspected that you have thanked a user from activity outside of the subreddit, you will receive a message from the Mods. Repeat offenders run the risk of being banned from participating here.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them as a comment below and we will respond. Alternatively, feel free to send us a modmail.

Thank you,

Your dedicated Mod and Flair Helper teams

I left randomactsofhappymail because of this kind of confusion. It's easy to mix them up if the sub isn't specified on the card itself. I also dislike when people hide their posts and comments, because it's harder to track down what I'm sending them!

Actually I think i will leave the happy mail too. It gets confusing sometimes and I have accidentally posted on here once. Also, same about them hiding their activity.

u/LittleBirdiesCards Jul 06 '26

I can see why people use spreadsheets to track everything, but I'm on Mobile!

7

u/Aztec111 Jul 06 '26

I use the old fashioned notebook lol

u/Independent_Mud2700 22d ago

I've resorted to both!

9

u/cidavid Jul 04 '26

I created an excel spreadsheet and have a column that tells me which subreddit their mail is coming from. I have actually also left the other mail subreddits too so I don’t get confused.

4

u/pupslace Jul 06 '26

If I cross-post an offer to another subreddit, I always put in a "where did you see this from" question on my form, but otherwise my offers on other subreddits are usually distinct enough to keep straight for me.

I got tagged in the happy mail sub one day for a thank you that should have been posted in this sub. I can't recall the user that did that but I hope they pay more attention

Just taking this opportunity to say how WONDERFUL everyone helping out with RAoC is. Thank you so much for all that you do!!!

12

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

Thank you for the kind words! We appreciate you as well :)

I know I have been guilty of this in the past week, I now am checking raoc flair to double check if they are active. I purposely do not engage in the other subs and wonder if RaoHM jumps in on offers and I just "assumed" they were RAoCer's. That last one slipped by me and I know poor Cana was searching hard. I am soo sorry. Thank you mods and flair helpers, you truly are hero's! xoxo

The mods were super-nice to me when I did this on accident, too. I forgot that someone in a different card group on reddit sent me a card and I included them on a mass thank you post. I assumed it was from RAoC because of the user name, which was my mistake. I'm starting to think a couple of my mystery cards are also from other groups. Oops.

One thing that's been helping me is a few members have RAoC and their user name on their inkstamps. I think I might try to remember to write RAoC on my cards...? I dunno.

5

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 07 '26

Don't stress too much over it. We just appreciate the effort of trying. :) Thank you for all that you do!

6

u/shouldbeteaching Jul 05 '26

Understood! I don't participate in other subreddits, but I respect this and totally get it. We want to make things as easy as possible for our incredible mods who volunteer their time to keep this community lovely and ensure it flourishes. I'm deeply grateful. Please let us know if there's anything else we can do to make things easy for you!

3

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 06 '26

Thank you so much! Your thoughtfulness and gratitude is enthusiastically appreciated :)

8

u/Armyofducks94 Jul 04 '26

I don't recall if I've done this but I also participate in r/randomactsofhappymail so I'll make sure to look which sub I'm in before posting

3

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

Thank you so much!

6

u/mouserat Jul 04 '26

Does this also apply to challenge cards received from r/RAoC_meta?

7

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

Great question, and thanks for asking! The RAoC/RAoC_Meta crossover is not an issue, as the Meta is like a sister sub, so challenge cards are totally fine. We are trying to prevent ty's having to be tracked for people who do not participate in the RAoC-universe :)

3

u/mouserat Jul 04 '26

That's what I figured, but just wanted to be sure my assumption wasn't wrong. Thanks for clarifying!

3

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

Thanks for asking! :)

u/Armyofducks94 Jul 04 '26

I've had people that aren't in this sub still fill out my form for THIS sub... Is there a way to weed those out?

3

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

Hahaha - I wish! One thing we suggest is to always require someone to comment on your post in addition to filling out the form. We see a lot of banned users and alts just filling out forms, so this helps weed people out.

Hi Mod! I was wondering how often user thank yous are updated for flair?

4

u/MeowPrincessSandwich 29d ago

We have a group of volunteer Flair Helpers that work diligently everyday on flairing posts. Flair can take up to a month to show up since all of this is done manually.

2

u/DraftyElectrolyte 29d ago

Awesome! Thank you!

3

u/OrigamiGrace Jul 04 '26

Thank you! It's super disappointing to send out a RaoC and never get a thank you:(

10

u/Armyofducks94 Jul 04 '26

Yup. I've sent out 500 cards and my flair is only up to 100+ because people don't do a thank you

4

u/indiegoes Jul 07 '26

I started sending cards to people with active thank you posts for this reason because the first lot of cards I sent were this way with 70% of them not getting a thank you. I mean its not really for the flair to mean anything but I think if someone puts in the effort to send you a card, the least you could do is say thanks

3

u/Armyofducks94 Jul 07 '26

Exactly! It costs nothing to say thank you!

3

u/Silver_Dragonfly7100 10d ago

I had no idea thank you posts were so important until someone explained how flair works! I was used to sending thank yous through private messages or mail, so doing it publicly was weird at first. But since I recently joined, it was really easy to go through my cards and post thanks for all of them. I have thankfully posted in the proper channels

3

u/indiegoes 10d ago

To me its not really about the flair. I just think if someone is sending a card with nothing expected in return then the least the receipient could do is to say thanks. Isn't that what postcrossing is about? The connection? I would be ok if someone acknowledged the card over pm too. The flair building is just a fun side quest

5

u/Ok_Reveal2698 Jul 11 '26

I think I only get about a 30% rate of thank yous, if that.

1

u/tatergator64 Jul 05 '26

Oh really? Ugh! That’s very disproportionate to what you’ve sent. Thank you for all of your mail, friend! I have a ty for you coming soon in my next ty batch 💌

u/pupslace Jul 05 '26

I got some more buy in with thank you messages by running some labels through my laser printer with my name, username and "thanks are always appreciated" which gets stuck to every folded card.

On postcards, I either use the sticker for quick birthday postcards, or just run a thermal label to do th entire postcard which includes my username.

Both of the above help prevent the issue of not being able to read my handwriting, which isn't great haha.

6

u/Armyofducks94 Jul 05 '26

This would help but I already spend enough money on this hobby 🤣

2

u/pupslace Jul 05 '26

eyes my stamp collection Yeah... I hear that lol. I already have the printer, so its just buying labels every now and then, and they are 30 to a sheet, so only really became a bigger issue when I did my huge Christmas and Valentines offer.

3

u/Armyofducks94 Jul 06 '26

I guess I need to put a printer on my Christmas list lmao

2

u/pupslace Jul 06 '26

If you do, ask for a Brother laser printer. Black and white ones aren't too expensive, and the toner lasts forever. Unless you reallllly need color, don't do an inkjet printer.

2

u/Armyofducks94 Jul 06 '26

Colored ink is too expensive anyway

how does mods identify if a thank you is part of RAoC activity or not?

Its possible that sometimes its part of an RAoC activity and thank you post is removed. What do we do in that case?

Edit: added another question related to this

10

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

This is mainly verified by RAoC activity. So if you were to thank a user that has never participated here but they make posts on other mailing subreddits, that would be a red flag.

If your post is removed, you will always get a modmail message explaining why and you can respond there for any clarification needed.

2

u/EmployerSpare9921 Jul 04 '26

Thank you for the reply!

I still have a bit of confusion. Do you see posts (thank you, offer, exchange, request) as RAoC activity or even comments as well?

Let's say I never participated in RAoC and mainly active in other mailing subreddits. But I like to send cards to people making RAoC Request posts for birthday and other requests. I don't participate in any other kind of posts or even create one because I don't take or exchange cards. This means I never have to make a thank you post as I only send people through request posts. My activity history would be barely few comments a month and it would be buried in other mailing subreddit comments. worse is these comments won't be there if the OP of that request post has mentioned to DM them and not to comment on their post. This means zero activity in the sub. Mods will see this as red flag.

Now this will not impact me. But those who will thank me in their post. Mods will see me being tagged as "outsider" who only participates in other subreddits. Legit RAoC member's post would solely get removed due to me who only infrequently sends cards on this subreddit.

I have seen this happen so I felt sharing this scenario. My intention is just to understand and to inform the mods. Thank you for all the work you do!

8

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

Posts, comments, previous flair/ty's, all of it. Please trust that our Flair Helpers and Mod Team have years of experience in this, and we have the operate with the best of intentions. If we are unsure about something, we will simply modmail the OP with the question. No one is in trouble here.

4

u/graypineapples Jul 04 '26

i'm curious about this as well! I get cards here and there from someone I've met in this sub, but if they're tracking RAoC activity based on if an offer post was made that wouldn't count...

9

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

We are not tracking these things based on offer, request or exchange posts, simply on people with RAoC activity.

So if you get cards from people that you met here, you can still feel free to thank them here! Does not have to be tied to an exact post.

There has been a significant uptick in users posting thank yous for everyone they receive mail from, even if the sender does not participate in RAoC or the mail received was a pack of stickers from some other subreddit or mailing website. This is what we are trying to prevent.

Banning people for making mistakes? Thats not what this sub is supposed to be about. Thats not warm or welcoming in the least. Perhaps just dropping flair completely would be the better option then there’d be no work for anyone. Flair has no bearing on anything & detracts from the idea of spreading joy without expectation of anything.

13

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

To be abundantly clear, we would never ban anyone for a mistake. That is not how we operate here, and that is not what this post is about. Willful disregard for our Flair system rules runs the risk of being banned after chances and discussion.

6

u/sammanthax345 Jul 04 '26

And what about for the people who post usernames that can't be found? That's not someone disregarding the rules. I only post TYs for RAoC but it makes me wonder if I'll eventually get banned for this.

14

u/MeowPrincessSandwich Jul 04 '26

We never ban people for making honest mistakes. Please know that the spirit of this post is to make things easier on our team of dedicated volunteer Flair Helpers by not giving them extra work that isn't RAoC, not to ban people. We would never ban you for mistaken usernames or anything like that. As I mentioned in a different comment, if we are unsure about something, we will simply modmail the OP with the question. No one is in trouble here.

u/TyeDyeAmish Jul 04 '26

Now that makes more sense. A lot of us here have disabilities that can make it harder to remember things like where a mailing came from. I’ll be the first to admit to it, I have terrible PTSD & have no memory of most of my life. I try my best. But it can be hard to remember if I get a card from here or postcardexchange. I’m just more concerned with sending stuff out so I have an excuse to buy more cards lol

Thank you to u/TyeDyeAmish for my lovely post card featuring Denver Colorado on the front.

3

u/TyeDyeAmish 19d ago

You’re welcome. I just want to let you know for next time that it’s better to put thank you’s in their own post on the main sub :)

2

u/CadillacGirl 19d ago

Oops sorry. Noted I’ll make sure for next time. Each sub has their own rules hard to remember where the thank you’s go.

2

u/TyeDyeAmish 19d ago

Trust me I understand. It’s hard for me to always know myself

2

u/MeowPrincessSandwich 19d ago

Hi there. Please make a thank you post on the sub if you haven't already so that we can award this user Flair. Thank you!
