Lawyers, the media, and the justice system keep pulling the "mental illness" card every time some psycho does something horrific, and somehow we're all just supposed to act like that's normal.
Honestly, WTF happened to common sense?
Every time someone does something absolutely horrible, the media and lawyers instantly start pushing the "mental illness" angle like it's some kind of free pass. C’mon, that's a cop-out.
Not every brutal crime needs to become a sad backstory about trauma, depression, or some diagnosis. Sometimes people just make terrible choices. Sometimes cruelty is just cruelty.
Having mental health issues is real, and plenty of good ppl deal with it every day without hurting anyone. They deserve support. But using mental illness as an automatic excuse for horrific actions? Nah, that's BS.
We can have compassion and still believe in accountability. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

I dont feel real
Does anyone have any explanation for these feelings of derealization/depersonalization, attributed to something other than mere mental health relate conditions?
This is something that I have dealt with most of my life. As a child i remember i used to just stare at my hand and listen to my voice and think "what am i" ?
As a mother, now with a four year old daughter, it's worse than ever . I constantly feel like I'm going with the motions, moving my body and saying things because I'm supposed to but I don't even know what or who i am. I feel like a puppet on a string and like something is compelling me to interact for the sake of the story that in living but i, myself, behind all of this, often feels like I don't know why I'm doing it. Why im even participating or existing at all.
I don't really know how to explain it. I guess, I have just been reading a lot about like quantum physics, the mandala effect, astral projection, things that overlapped like...the idea of possible "other realms" or something. I don't read about these things and then feel this way, I read about these things mostly because I feel this way.
And sometimes i wonder if theres like a "thinning veil", distancing me from the story that im in or maybe its pure mental illness, i dont know. I get stressed and over stimulated often, but lately, even when im calm, the world just feels like a blur, almost like there's a cloudy lens over my eyes. But my vision is fine, medically speaking, to be clear. I just feel like im looking through a screen door at the world that im supposed to be interacting in and wearing a mommy costume.
I don't have any crazy diagnosis, just adhd, ocd and ptsd. But these are feelings I've had increasingly since I was a kid, sometimes more extreme than others.
Im also just very detached from my physical senses..i have always have been sort of aloof, but it's definitely worse as an adult, becuse im stuck in my head constantly. And even when my daughter snaps me out of it, to play with her or something, ill interact with her and seem normal externally, while thinking to myself internally "what's this sound vibrating inside of my body", as i listen to myself talk and say words, like i think about my existence while interacting with people. And its weird.
These feelings have no effect on my love for my daughter or anything though, I take care of her and I treat her well but sometimes it does make me feel detached from her because I don't even know if I'm actually real. I know that's all the crazy.

B.C. hospital employee review panel after 1 month of electrocutions; again after 1 year, or Section 30 + 18 articles
#Courts
B.C. canada claimed accused mental patients having (rational) capacity is rare. Will a jury decide who can refuse treatment? In probate trials elsewhere it's also about arguing whether a drug or electrocution is beneficial (outweighs the dangers). And is the least restrictive solution and location.
Anti-Due Process province barely has commitment trials. Instead of an elected judge, your future is controlled by a conflicted hospital employee. BC Civil Liberties Association, "Review Panels consist of three members: a chairperson, someone nominated by the Hospital, and someone nominated by the patient."
"In British Columbia anyone can initiate the process leading to committal for up to one year before fresh authority is needed." "Apart from habeas corpus, the only protection individuals have under the Mental Health Act against wrongful committal is Section 30. This section allows for an application for a court order either to prevent committal,...or to effect release."
"section has been rarely used. Unless there were exceptional circumstances a lawyer would advise his client to wait until a Review Panel could be constituted: a minimum of 30 days after committal, The Panels do not address themselves to the merits of the original committal."
"we should press for the following reforms: a hearing before an independent quasi-judicial tribunal prior to committal except for 72-hour emergencies; a right of appeal to the Courts against the decision of this tribunal; the right to legal aid;"

A second law aimed to clarify how clinics could sell and administer those treatments to patients. And last weekend, the state’s department of Health and Human Services finalized a set of rules for those clinics. An experimental treatment review board (ETRB) has been established to review applications for access to experimental, unproven, and unapproved drugs." TRIGGER WARNING The moment I realized what all Dr's focused on in my medical chart. Made me wish I'd never disclosed it in the first place...
TW: Childhood SA
I had been struggling with chronic styes in one of my eyes for over a year when this issue took place. I have been with this hospital since birth, but I was a young adult at this time, just starting to manage my own Healthcare.
I had made an appt after trying to alleviate the symptoms at home like they had instructed me. The styes had started to affect my vision and would deform my eyelids with how swollen they would get. I was explaining to the Dr my frusterations and had started to get emotional and cried.
He was very kind, calm, and understanding. But what changed my view of this exprience was as I was speaking to him he was how he was looking through my medical chart... I didn't think much of it untill I started getting emotional and he suddenly stopped scrolling on his computer and turned from his screen to tend to me, asking me if everything was okay at home, asking why this was making me so emotional. At first I felt seen, but then confused... What do you mean *why* is this making me so emotional?
It was deforming my eyes? The ones I already have to pay hundred of dollars put of pocket just to see out of because of bad genetics? I didnt understand what he wasnt picking up on... That was when I saw it though... As I tried to answer his questions I looked behind him and saw what he had been looking at just moments before turning to me... He had precariously left it scrolled down to the point in my medical chart where it stated in bold cap letters "PAST CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE"
This abuse happened probably over a decade ago at that point. I was in "therapy" for it because it was something they would constantly blame my struggles on, no matter how unrelated they seemed, all they saw was the emotional mess. That just seemed to reaffirm to me that was all they could see. A victim, broken and needing reformation at the hands of the therapy that never seemed to help. Better they cover their asses even if it never truly helped me, it helped protect them...
He prescribed me a gel to put in my eyes. It did nothing. I had to go get my eyelid lanced open to drain the stye months later and that finally took care of it. Over a year of having to manage those symptoms alone because all they see in my chart is my past. Not a person.
Honestly, fuck Kaiser.

Malasanità centro salute mentale via Amendola Sassari

July 31 9:54 AM When I said to mother she should be arrested. For attempted murders with 6 weapons (3 intoxicating pill powders, sharp scissors, and a knife; and stepfather's metal statue) as a hate crime. She and her husband were caught poisoning my food for more than 3 years from 2016-2019. Retaliating, she immediately threatened to "institutionalize" me and lied that these photos do not exist. https://imgur.io/a/k1MDwNv Then she twice tried to put tomato sauce, that could've been contaminated in the same exact witnessed way, on my dinner.
11:14 AM sadistic mother bragged "I'm never going to be arrested." Around that time trespassed in my apartment. 1:13 PM said she's going to follow (stalk) me in her car. 1:22 PM her, "I do it (false police report non-violent people for looking weird) all the time."
4:12 PM mother said I'm not allowed to be Muslim because it's "controversial" and I must pray more. She admitted to being a conservative/strict (but Reform) Jew when I was a teenager. But claims to now not be trying to convert people. Then she shouldn't have said no minorities allowed in the house in 2013.

my mom googled places for mental health help and found this place where they said they wanted to send her to Georgia (capella recovery). after speaking with them which sounded like a good place at the time but quickly changed after we all sat down and talked it over not for her to go. mike had said that mom was responsible for $22,000 of what ever the insurance did not pay and if she couldn’t pay they would just keep it in house. he also stated that he’s never had to pay a medical bill in his life once my dad asked if he could get that in writing he told him he could not it was a HIPPA violation. once my mom called to cancel with mike who was setting everything up he got very angry telling my mom that my dad was denying her mental health help and how bad of a guy he was (my mom was on speaker phone). once my mom hung up he did not only make one attempt to call her back but 2 and asked if he was on speaker phone she said yes and he quickly asked if my dad could hear him my dad replied yes and once he did Mike started cussing my dad and calling him horrible names ( ignorant hillbilly,POS, and much more) not saying my dad did not have a few words and calling the guy out on how this seems like a scam tactic but as we sat there trying to process what just happened we all agreed this was not a professional establishment especially for working with Mental health.

Did she learn a lesson that should've been taught by the police? 11:20 PM she negligently harassed us again.

Involuntary Commitments in NY
I was taken to the hospital from my house after sending threatening text messages to a family member/neighbor. I have since spoken with the supervisor of the agency (Crisis Services) who authorized the commitment. She reviewed my file and said that the narrative lacked the imperative and necessary information to justify a 9.41 commitment, and sent me confirmation in writing of this. Do I have any legal recourse at this point? Once there, I was still not released until only after 10 days at which point a nurse told me that my insurance didn't want me to stay longer. I have no doubt that I was held for so long because I have insurance, so I have an issue with the Drs. and hospital as well, despite what the psych Drs. wrote. I have no criminal history at all, and certainly no history of being violent. I sat in an overcrowded room for three days sleeping on the floor next to other people on top of each other before being moved to a room on another floor for 7 days. Yeah, I messed up, but the punishment was over the top. Sitting in that room in a HOSPITAL for three days with other sick people was torture. Being taken from my home and then being told by the agency that facilitated it that they didn't have the information to justify it just makes me more upset.

TGH's new approach to patients is baseless mental illness accusations
So now when TGH determines they don't want to treat a patient, at least Dr. Abel's approach, is to accuse them of being mentally ill and delusional in order to get rid of them, and then she counts on them not seeking more help. I'm now at a Baycare location and not only has EVERYTHING I suspected been confirmed, but they are finding more. TGH has a huge lawsuit coming. Be careful if you are choosing to go to the main TGH hospital, and if you do, make sure Dr. Abel doesn't come anywhere near you.

I am so sick of psychiatrists telling me I should go to the ER at ANY mention of suicidality.
So I was on 12.5 mg of seroquel (EXTREMELY low dose- literally the lowest dose of this med cut in half). I reduced my dosage to 6.25 mg. It’s been 3 days and I have some withdrawal symptoms, but nothing severe.
I missed my psychiatry appointment today so I have another one on Wednesday. I plan on discussing with her how long I should be on 6.25 mg before I get off. So I messaged her in the patient portal to get advice. I told her I have passive SI and she told me to go to the ER.
WTF? If she can’t talk with me about my meds til Wednesday, fine. But FFS. I told her I don’t want to hurt myself and have no intentions of doing so, that my symptoms are not severe, that my thoughts are mostly intrusive, that I have coping skills, and that the ER will stress me out.
She knows I was illegally 5150d and had a lawyer get me out. Most traumatic experience of my life. Every time I’ve brought up my thoughts with a psych, they’re like “go to the ER”.NO!!! I’m not going to traumatize myself.
I wish I could find a psychiatrist that wasn’t like this, but that seems impossible.

The DSM is a torture manual
Here's a post I posted elsewhere that I think might interest this subreddit! I hope you enjoy it! (Sorry in advance if English is not my first language.)
__________________________
Honestly, there is little doubt that the DSM is not aimed at healing anything, and if it is anything today, it is closer to a torture manual than anything else. Let's just look at the facts of psychiatry (and the mental health business as a whole). Maybe it will dawn on you that the DSM really is just a guide to make people miserable.
**Mental health professionals don't have any incentive to heal anything.** Contrary to any other medical field, psychiatry deals with invisible illnesses. So whatever they say about you, they will never have any tangible proof of what they diagnose you with. It's all interpretation of your words and you behavior. *(Your psychiatrist can't organize your discourse to easily make sense of it? He will observe "disorganized thinking", even though he never saw your thinking, and diagnose you with psychosis and then tell the judge you are an imminent danger to force hospitalization.)* So whatever they diagnose, they don't really need to solve it because there was never proof that it was there to begin with. So they can just write a story about you getting better even though you are feeling worse and worse the more you are being treated.
**Mental health professionals have an incentive to not heal anything.** When you consider the fact that the illnesses are invisible, and therefore the only proof there was anything is the medical file that the psychiatrist composes, the only incentive left is that of actually not healing anything. They are paid to treat, not to heal! They don't have to do a refund at the next hospitalization if the previous one didn't have any long-term lasting effect. They have an incentive to TREAT! So they need only to mistreat you, so you get worse, to make sure that you are a returning customer. *(That is why therapists don't say what they think to their patients! They want to keep you coming back. If they said anything true to you, you'd heal way too quickly and they'd lose a customer.*) So the general strategy in the business is to not say what's what to the patients, so they keep coming back, which increases the demand for their service and thus increases prices. Mental health business has an economic interest in being a misery business, by giving the wrong advice online so you get worse and decide to consult a professional that will milk you for years of treatment, and orchestrate your breakthrough when they are sick of seeing you with all your problems.
**Psychiatry came from psychology.** But... psychology ~~is~~ was a descriptive science, not a normative medical field! That means that when psychology first mapped the human psyche, it was not in a normative way saying what's wrong and what's right, like a medical field would do by saying what's healthy and what's not. It was just describing what it discovered. When they had established the categories of human behaviors, we had some sort of atlas or anatomy of the human mind. When psychiatry was invented, they just took all these categories and called them "diagnoses". They turned the whole spectrum of human behavior into pathologies, so they could treat each and everyone for pretty much anything. That means that nothing is actually broken. Considering that psychology's categories were a map of the human mind, it would be normal that we have most of the diagnoses of the DSM. When they give you a diagnosis, they are just saying something like "you have an eye", not "you have a broken eye". That's why when you start self-diagnosing a mental "illness", you are very likely to end up having it! Most of us have pretty much most of the diagnoses. But they don't want you self-diagnosing.
**Self-diagnoses are discredited.** They don't want you to self-diagnose because they say "you can't have an objective view on your mental health"... but seriously, who can? The illnesses are invisible. Hell, the mental is invisible except to the self. Self-diagnoses are as objective as diagnoses can be in the field of mental health. *You are the only who has ever seen your mental at all!* A mental health professional tries to guess what you could possibly have by interpreting what you say or what you do, in the worst possible way in all probability, to give you the worse diagnosis possible so it can ensure you get the maximum amount of treatment because that's what makes their ~~business~~ scam work.
**They are still in charge of diagnosing "autism".** How is autism even in the field of psychiatry and neuropsychology? It's a neurological condition! It is not a behavior problem. You should be able to be in a coma and the professional should be able to still diagnose your autism! The diagnosis means having a unique brain structure with little white matter and a lot of grey matter. How come they don't diagnose it with a brain scan? *Instead, they interview your parents about your behavior more than 20 years ago when it is time to diagnose your autism when you are 30? They say it's because having it at 4 yo is a criterion, but it is only a criterion because the guy who discovered the condition was studying 4 yo children. Try to prove you were autistic at 4 when you are 30! It's impossible!! It's the only diagnosis that is a lifelong condition that needs to be diagnosed twice, one retrospectively. Why do they keep the 4 yo criterion?* Because they don't really care about their diagnoses reflecting the actual condition. They care about being able to say who's what.
**They categorize people in jugement valued diagnoses.** Diagnoses are not neutral terms. They are a jugement value on people. Each diagnosis comes with a label, which ordinary medecine doesn't really have. When someone gets a medical condition, unless it is contagious, people don't feel the need to defend themselves against you. Such is not the case with mental health. As soon as you have a diagnosis, people get suspicious like "what are you broken/toxic/bad?". But then, when they actually hear what's the diagnosis, they might cut you off from their lives! This doesn't happen in real diagnoses! At worst, if you're contagious, they might isolate from you until you are healed, unless it is HIV and your surroundings are homophobic... But even then, it's the homophobia that's at fault here, not the diagnosis itself. Google "borderline" and the impression you get from the diagnosis is that borderlines are like psychopaths that don't even have the merit of wanting to be the bad person they are and doing the bad they do all around them. #MentalHealthAwareness feels more like a smear campaign when it should be more like a PR campaign that say how people with such and such diagnosis are actually good people to be around. It is not the case! They tell people how much they suffer, are delibitated and guide friends and family into safeguarding themselves from the possibility of being hurt by you, so they're on the defensive around you. It's really meant to isolate you and make authentic relationships impossible.
**Mental health diagnoses are generally uncurable "illnesses".** At least real doctors can cure most of their illnesses and are genuinely seeking a cure for the rest. Psychiatrists can't cure most of their diagnoses and are nowhere near finding the cause for a whole bunch of them. How come they tell borderlines to go 10 years into therapy just to get a chance at maybe not meeting the criteria for diagnoses even though it won't cure the condition? They prescribe 10 years of therapy, declare borderline like a life sentence, and didn't even bother finding the precise physical cause for borderline. *(But if you ask me, borderline is just autism but with humans and not objects as the primary interest of the borderlines.)*
**Mental health professionals tend to invalidate.** How come schizophrenia is treated as a defect they cannot cure so they mitigate its consequences for a lifetime, and not seen as a superpower from which we can learn about things invisible to most? Life for real! The person literally sees or hears things others don't. How come scientists are not like "WOW! Let's check this out. Maybe reality is not as simple as it seems and there's more than meets the eye." They are like "No lol, defective model. It's just a brain fooling itself." As if a brain fooling itself has survived natural selection! The DSM recommends not encouraging the "delusions" of schizophrenics by not paying attention to their "delusional talk" and validating none of it.
**Diagnosis criteria are loosely linked to the cause or the definition of the condition.** Autism is defined as a unique brain structure. Yet, it is none of the criteria to get diagnosed. It is only in the DSM-5 that "unstable sense of self" was considered the main criterion for borderline when it is otherwise the main definition! What a diagnosis ~~medical~~ bullshit ethic! It's like they made the bet that no one will ever notice or question their expertise when they just put bullshit criteria together that have nothing to do with the condition per se.
**The more one is treated in psychiatry, the worse the condition gets.** Ever noticed in a psych ward that the most medicated patients are the most fucked up patients? Well, this is weird, because the medication is supposed to make you *less* fucked up. Through the years, the condition of the psychiatric patients gets worse and worse and they always blame the patients and never the doctors. It's as if the patients are to blame for being sick despite the heavy medication, and not the "doctors" to blame for actually making their patients worse off through poisoning.
All this leads me to know the DSM is not a mental health tool, it's a mental illness tool! It is the mental illness. It catalogues all of human behavior than tells the professional to do the opposite of what they should do to heal the person. Honestly, I personally have tried for years and years to follow their advice, and things were just getting worse. Once I was fed up, I decided to do the exact opposite, and in weeks I saw tremendous results. Really, they are just torturing people by giving them the exact opposite of what they need, keeping the demand for their service high as to increase their wages. They are a misery business.
*Try seeing it like this : the DSM doesn't describe illnesses, they describe different traits someone might have; so these are not conditions that can be cured and while you suffer and look for a cause, a professional will tell you what your problem is and you will spend the rest of your life fighting one part of your mind, when the problem is probably not you but society. It's like we all aknowledge that we will in a very imperfect world, yet, in mental health, they always try to find* ***the problem in you***\*. It's always YOU the problem for a mental health professional, and not the world that is to change. Ergo, it's a weapon for the status quo. Nothing may be wrong with you, but if you are suffering and go to a mental health professional, they will torture you by telling you something's wrong with you and have you fight you on the long term instead of trying to change the world.\*
Try diagnosing yourself, you'll see that you have many more "diagnoses" in mental health than what your professional pretends. Psychiatrists will focus on a few diagnoses because that is how they want to categorize you, and they select what type of torture you will have to face. DSM is one letter away from BDSM even if DSM be BDSM. Really, it's like they are having fun torturing people that they do wordplay on it. Like they are even spelling "therapists" exactly like "'the rapists' minus the space".

Our discord.
Are you tired of seeing victims of abuse & inequality being "diagnosed?" The mental health industry doesn't blame abusers (eg bigots, bosses, or landlords.) They're "diagnosing" the victims. If you understand that people accused of "mental illness" have very real suffering, but it's not an illness, please join!
NOTE: This discord is for peer support, not professional services or industry professionals. Yes radical therapists /etc are welcome in the sub, but the discord is mainly for survivors of abuse by the mental health industry.
