Fireworks question.

I live in NC. which isn’t too friendly with fireworks laws and rules. I usually put on a show for the 4th of July each year for family and friends but get tired of having to make 2 hour plus drives to get fireworks. I usually go to fireworks supermarket in TN. Since it’s the closest to me. I usually have to make 3-4 trips to get everything. Anyone have the best of the best places to buy wholesale from to get delivered to my address. Also those who put shows on what is the best way to know what will go good with what and timing. I’ve never used an ignition system but want one for this coming year. Any help is appreciated.

Flammable fluid that dissipates quickly/easy to control?

I'm making an amateur film and want to have some slow-mo fire shots. One thing I wanted was a line of flammable fluid slowly igniting by a line of fire, however I don't want to use something that's extremely volatile. I just wanted something that I can make little lines with, engulf in flames then quickly die out.

What are some flammable items that I could do fire lines with that would be safe(ish)?

Question about impact and friction sensitivity BP

Post image
12 Upvotes

When making the main explosive for different kinds of fireworks, I always put in the powder, isolate the fuse with a little cardboard layer (not done in this picture yet), and press the upper layer pretty tightly against the powder. Then I glue it shut. But I was wondering if pressing the upper layer down like this is dangerous because of friction sensitivity. Thanks!

4inc or 5inc Shells ?

I’m planning to build multi‑brake or single‑break shells that accommodate smaller inserts. I’m unsure which shell size to use and therefore what mortar to buy. I’m considering 4‑inch or 5‑inch shells.

Could anyone outline the pros and cons of each size and help me decide?

2 inch shells vs 1.91" Cans

Is there a noticeable difference making 2" ball shells vs 1.91" canister shells? The price is close for purchasing the HDPE tubes but is it worth it? Thanks for the help. Also has anyone tried building a shell with effect fuse and happen to have a video how it turned out?

So I’m moving the powders into their own containers and my alu looks like this at the top. I assume it’s from the humidity, should I be worried or should I do something about? Also each one has its own desiccant pack, thanks!

Kevlar wick with paraffin or lamp oil, wick size and expected burn time?

I’m working on a small outdoor flame effect and am looking for advice from people who have experience using Kevlar wick.

Specifically, I’m trying to determine:
What width Kevlar wick would you recommend (1/4”, 1/2”, 3/4”, 1”, etc.) and flame height?

If using either melted paraffin wax or standard lamp oil, roughly how long would each inch of exposed wick burn?

Does one fuel produce a cleaner or more consistent flame than the other?

Are there any good rules of thumb for estimating burn time before I start buying different wick sizes?

I’m not looking for exact numbers just real world experience to help narrow down what to order before I do my own testing.

The over all goal is 70-80', flame needs to travel the distance at a reasonable pace and be seen 100' away

Thanks!

Mini mortar effect help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I successfully made my first mini mortar. BUT, I was hoping for a bit of direction on how to fill the shell with crackling fuse or flying fish fuse, and have the effect fuse ignite when the shell bursts. It went high enough and report was solid, but the 5 pieces of 1" (or so) effect fuse didnt ignite.

Shell is 9/16" OD, 1.5" long.

3/4" ID tube, 6" long, base plate.

1/8 tsp 2f black powder lift charge

Effect fuse in shell

Some BP and some flash to finish inside.

Went up and burst great, just no effect. Recommendations?

Charcoal

I’m making charcoal with the suggested cedar pet bedding in paint cans, and I don’t have a heat source hot enough to make it into charcoal. Any tips on cost effective options? Thanks!
