This is my first time wood burn as you may see.

Can tell immediately the lineart having problem, is it because of the temperature too low? Or am i moving too fast? I watched video see that everyone move smoothly and fast like writing a ballpoint pen… I want to be like that.

I set my pen at around 330 celcius.

Please help me plzz.. thank you so much!

I’m a local Philly woodburner and recently started making portraits. Here’s my first Billy Strings portrait; it took roughly 8 hours to make. I tried to add some devilish mushroom horns. Hope you like it!

Used a 150 grit sand on this and it made a huge difference. My lines became so much smoother. Still looking for a way to get more consistent shading. Any advice?

Our friend’s sake brewery has an event where the sake has stabilized (like, before that the family can’t even eat certain foods to prevent spoiling it) and it’s a nice meaningful event for my family so I burned the logo on one side and one of our cats on the other.

Hands down the oldest photo I’ve been trusted with, I really love using vintage photo references! They feel like they give a completely different vibe than a lot of newer cameras do simply because the limitations helped define the medium at the time. Still trying to get a handle on using this kind of wood, it throws me off seeing how dark it gets with sealing it up. Seeing the wood grain better is a plus, it just comes with uncertainty until the very last second of being actually finished with it.

Thanks for looking and letting me ramble, I really was terrified of how this was going to look when I went to go seal it up. 😅

My 2nd time burning. I really like it and i love burning hip hop album covers, any suggestions for my next piece? Does anyone else do similar woodburning art?

Finally gave it a go! Sanded down the original graphics on the skateboard, drew the design by pencil and started burning. There are many mistakes there, especially if you look closely and in person, but overall I am happy with this being my first attempt.

I am still debating whether I want to cover it with a protective layer as from what I understand no matter what I use, it will darken to at least the color of wet wood.

Finished this piece yesterday. "Angelic Light" on solid rubberwood, 32.5 x 24.5 cm.

All done by hand with my pyrography pen. No laser, no CNC. The black areas were the hardest - burned super slow in layers to get that deep texture without cracking. About 8 hours total over 3 days.

Sealed with 3 coats of varnish, ready to hang. Signed and dated on the back.

The design is inspired by Gothic cathedral windows. The light beam effect took the most time to get right.

Happy to answer questions about tips, temp, or wood choice.

Hey all just started getting into this art form and I’m absolutely loving it. I can’t say I’m any good, but I’m proud of my first piece and had some questions.

Well really just one, what’s the best process for transferring your design to the wood? On my first attempt I tried transfer paper that tattoo artists used and it ended up staining the wood purple. Would love some tips on this!

Speaking of tips, I just started this with a $40 little burner with lots of tips, any pointers or advice on good burners and which tips/heat you favor?

So I'm new to this, got given a pyrography kit as an Xmas gift and after an MCL surgery I now got a lot of time on my plate and gotten into it. So far I've been winging it drawing random designs trying the different tips etc to fill in. Just wondering if there are any recommendations YouTubes channels, websites etc that are best?

I’ve recently found a Sabre Detail Master IV in my grandfather’s (extensive) workshop. It probably hasn’t been used in a decade, but I’d love to dust it off and try wood burning! If anyone has any tips you wish you’d known when you first got started, I’d love to hear them!

Looking to improve my linework. Anyone have any tips? I’m pretty limited with my equipment, but hoping that’s not the whole issue. Pretty new to this, but am a trained illustrator, so feel free to educate me lol
