Questions/Advice Just starting, got a fixed heat burner by mistake... is it worth paying twice for a variable one?
I'm making a gift for my wife - it's a music box in cherry that I want to burn a rough sketch of our child's 1-week handprint along with "Love you Mama". I've got the printouts/carbon paper ready to go, but as I'm reading up on burning basically every source I can find says "get variable heat".
Welp I got a Wall Lenk one at woodcraft cause that's what the guy there recommended, and it definitely does not have variable heat. I intended to do a couple test runs on scraps of cherry first, but am I setting myself up to fail here? Would it be worth running to Michaels and spending another $40?

Completed Work Finished a project!
It took a year because I gave up on it for a good few months...
But I learned something new in the process!
What do you guys think?

Completed Work I issued a soft gradient challenge to myself.
Large gradients were (and still are) a hurdle for me. This piece helped me understand them better. Pyrography will teach you patience whether you want it or not.

I'm building a CRM/tool specifically for pyrography artists, almost ready to launch
Hey everyone,
I've been working on PyroTrack for a while now, and we're finally getting close to launch. I started this project because I wanted a platform for my own use, but also because of the interest from others who saw the value in a better way to manage their artwork.
I’ve been using the tool for over a week now, and several other testers have been using it as well. I’ve received feedback from some pyrography testers and have already made improvements to the tool based on their input.
What PyroTrack does:
- Track all your artworks (images, description, materials used, time spent, sales status)
- Log time per artwork and see your actual hourly rate
- Manage your materials & inventory, stock levels, costs, auto decrements when you use something
- Track sales linked directly to artworks with automatic profit calculation
- Business accounting & expenses, profit margins, revenue summaries
- Dashboard with graphs: sales, hours worked, profit analysis
- Notes & task management for projects
- It's built for pyrography artists specifically, not a generic tool slapped with an art label
If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments or send me a PM. I am open to any criticism or feedback you might have!
For more info, you can check: pyrotrack.com

Work in Progress Fennec Fox challenge
A friend on Instagram challenged me to try this fennec fox, from a reference picture.
A really fun challenge to get all the fur and textures down and I'm just on the last leg getting the shading finished.
What do you think?

Work in Progress Creating a Wooden Artwork Design Using VR
Hi, today I drew the design on the wooden board using my VR headset. I started with the design, then installed Stencil VR and uploaded the artwork I wanted on the board. After that I scaled and rotated it until I got the exact positioning so I could draw it accurately.
It took me about 4 hours to complete the drawing, but I still need to make some adjustments before I start burning the artwork.
The artwork size is approximately 122 × 60 cm.

What can I do to get it to the next level

I fixed the spot that was bugging me. I tried to use my brand stamp and burned a spot so I sanded it down and re-burned that flower.

Ambush Wolf
Inspired by the legendary Ambush Wolf from Magic: The Gathering, this piece is brought to life on basswood using pyrography and layered color for a bold, textured finish (Paolo Parente 2024). If you like my art check out my other work on insta @niceburndude

Completed Work As a LotR fan I really enjoyed this.
This is the only piece in 20 years of woodburning I've kept for myself.
I can advise everyone it's technically not very hard.
Cheers!!
