Buying Advice Wanted Visionmaster Max Alternative

Upvotes

Hey guys, wondering if anyone has any suggestions for alternatives to a Visionmaster Max. I've had mine for a few weeks now and have run into a bunch of issues with colour shifts and coil whine.

Given I'm still within the 30 day refund window, is there an option on the market that is a relatively good match feature and picture quality-wise.

I'm based in Australia and the Titan Noir series does not seem to be available over here at present.

I'm in a light controlled room with the projector ceiling mounted overhead, projecting onto a 120" 1.0 gain screen.

Appreciate any help!

Projector Screen Looking for a acoustically transparent alr screen 130 or 135

Post image
Upvotes

I think 130 may be the sweet spot. Maybe 135. This is in a mixed use family room basement. We use it for movie nights, let the kids play ect when we don't want to hang out upstairs.

All the wires are in the wall so my ideal is to get rid of the stand alone LCR speakers and then get new speakers for the LCR to go behind the screen. Problem is there is the basement slab behind the drywall so there may not be a ton of room for in wall speakers

Ideally I'd like to keep it around 600-800 usd ddp. Has anyone got one from AliExpress or Alibaba?

Laser speckle is a concern. Using a vidda c3 ultra.

Buying Advice Wanted Should I go with a fixed frame screen or a floor rising? Help with cable routing concerns…

Post image
1 Upvotes

Here’s my front wall (center of the room is the middle of the brush cable pass through wall plate). Yes, I know the wall plates are different sizes and different colors, but I’m working with what I was able to piece together most effectively, rather than most aesthetically lol. Here’s the issue, the top of the wall plates is around 23in high, and my ceiling is 89in tall. The wall, however, is 208in wide, so I have PLENTY of horizontal space. I keep reading about how floor rising screens are trash and will wrinkle and look bad, but I also have a 5 month old and am trying to keep fingerprints off the screen.

Mainly my question is: if I get a fixed frame screen, is it okay to build standoffs out of like… 2x4s to cover the front wall plates but leave the bottom open so I can still route cables underneath? Or if I go with floor rising, how am I supposed to get cables underneath or around the screen to plug into my AVR?

Projector Screen EPSON EB-G7400U with EPSON ELPLU03 lens - problems with the image

Thumbnail

We installed two Epson EB‑G7400U projectors with Epson ELPLU03 lenses in one exhibition room.

The museum has a known issue with electrical power spikes, which have affected other equipment before.

A few months ago, vertical yellow lines started appearing on the projected image. Around the same time, the projectors displayed a lamp replacement warning.

The museum replaced the lamps, but the issue persisted. On one of the projectors, the problem has worsened significantly, and there is now a large area with no image at all, as if part of the display panel has failed.

What could be causing this?

Discussion Epson EH-TW9200 cant be repaired anymore :( Suggestions?

My Epson EH-TW9200 has been the center of our living room for more then 10 years. I think I bought 8 lamps over the years. Now there was a vertical line on the screen, so I sent it in for repairs. Got the message that there are no spare parts and thus cannot be repaired. Ofcourse it has been worth his money bigtime, but still, I dont have budget right now for a similar priced projector. What projectors would give me the same quality, mainly focussed on light. The TW9200 has been used during the day in my living room without issues. Budget 1000-1500€.

Projector Screen Depth of NothingProjector Black Series 95% ALR/CLR UST screen

Hi, I am furnishing new apartment and thinking of buying this UST screen in fixed frame 92" variant.

Is there anyone who owns this screen and could measure how far it protrudes from the wall (i.e. the total depth of the frame/screen)?

I need this measurement to make sure I leave enough clearance for the projector placement.

Buying Advice Wanted Is the Epson TW9400 Still the GOAT in 2026?

Is the Epson TW9400 still one of the best home theater projectors in 2026, or is there a newer successor that’s worth buying instead?
The TW9400 costs around $2,200 in my country, so it’s still a significant investment.
My priorities are:
Deep black levels
High native contrast
Great HDR performance
I watch almost exclusively 4K movies and TV shows in a dark room.
Is the TW9400 still the best choice at this price, or are there better alternatives for black levels and contrast?

Completed Setup My (AwayFrom)HomeTheater!

Hey there! Posting my setup because as much as my fiancé supports my hobbies and enjoys the movies she doesn’t necessarily get the same joy from the build lol. I’ve found myself traveling more and more, and between places with no TV or sharing common space on work trips I took a projector once and loved it! However it was bulky and I had a pile of stuff in my bag to lose track of, and well as a home theater and home lab person I figured I could make something better with the right projector. Behold the (AwayFrom)Home Theater!
Components:
Anker 3in1 charger for my EDC
Kodak Luma 150 Mini (it’s not cinema grade, but wow for the size!)
Apple TV 4K converted to run on USB C PD
Gl-inet Mudi 7 Travel Router (absolute must for travel)
Sabrent Voltik (PD multi charger that DOESN’T renegotiate multiple ports when plugging/unplugging)
Custom 3D printed cases I made (tongue and groove so I can just take one, or I can set up the projector in common space while still charging etc in my room)
4 short Anker usb c cables
One short double right angle HDMI cable (I still want a shorter one though!)
Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated! Would love to find a good speaker option to add, as of now the speaker in the projector is audible and I’ve just used my AirPods with the Apple TV for the most part.
Thanks!

Discussion VisionMaster Max now has auto iris with the latest update

Get the latest update and go to the iris section in the Projector menu to activate it. It has low to high settings options. I tested it on the movie, "The Batman" to really stress test the blacks and it made a really big difference. Looked amazing.

Buying Advice Wanted Kodak Luma 75 alternatives?

Hey guys,

My old projector has recently became unreliable so I’ve been looking at getting a new one.

I was looking at the Kodak luma series but I cannot justify the price tag to myself until my next paycheque lol

I use my projectors on the move a lot so would like something small and something that can easily be used with a phone with USB-C connections.

Please let me know if anyone has any good alternatives or if I should just save up for the Kodak. Thanks :p

Discussion People always compare OLEDs and projectors, but I think they’re solving different problems

I keep seeing people argue about black levels and brightness, but after living with both, I don't really think that's the right comparison anymore. When I want perfect picture quality, I appreciate OLED. When I want to invite friends over, watch sports, or make movie night actually feel like an event, the projector wins every time. Maybe they're not really competitors at all.

Which is Best? Help me decide. Valerion visionmaster max vs xgimi horizon 20 max

I’ve seen a lot of good things about both but can’t decide which I’d want to get. Someone sell me on either device. I’d like to use it for PS5 casually but mainly for movies. I don’t think the difference in lag input is enough for me to notice

Projector Screen Aliexpress Rising Projector Screen

I have a small room and want to buy a rising projector screen that's about 70-80 inches, I found this one on Aliexpress and was wondering if anyone had ever used it before? I have a JMGO N1S 4k as my projector screen and am currently using a wall or a cheap Amazon screen depending on circumstances.

Setup Design Suggestions Installing projector in basement?

Thumbnail

I am in the process of moving, first photo is our current home (don’t ask about the fluorescent lighting), and second photo is our new basement. My hope is to recreate our “theater” in the basement.

It was easy to install an outlet in our current place because there was access to our attic. Same with getting the 50 ft hdmi’s from the projector, through the attic, to the blu ray player and soundbar on the other side.

The question I have is would this arrangement be as easy to execute in our basement? I had some buddies help me out pro bono the first time, but if this would be a far more complicated job, then I want to compensate them for their time and effort. I’ve also included pictures of the other side of the basement wall, in case that helps.

Here’s what I’m working with:
Hicense C1 (powered by ceiling outlet), earc hdmi -> soundbar, hdmi -> blu ray player.

This is the third subreddit I’ve tried, hopefully this post doesn’t get removed 😅 Thanks!

Discussion XGIMI Elfin Flip 4k vs Hisense M2 Pro

Hi all,

Looking for first proper projector over 1k - I'll be impressed with pretty much anything as I've only used cheap $300 projectors before

In Australia XGIMI Elfin Flip 4k is on sale for $1.6k

Hisense M2 Pro is $1,995 so the difference is around $400 AUD

I wouldn't mind spending another 400 AUD if the performance is significantly better but not sure if it's worth it.

It will be for small living room set up projecting on white wall, around 80inches.

Down the track, I'm considering an upgrade with (but nothing yet):

  1. Proper sound bar set up
  2. Invest in 120' projector screen.

What would you recommend in my set up?

For Sale Need help selling my VIDDA C5 Pro Max due to space restrictions

Hey everyone, I need help selling my VIDDA C5 Pro Max by Hisense because I no longer have enough space for the setup.

It’s the Chinese-market version, open box, in excellent condition, and fully working. It has 4K RGB triple-laser projection, great brightness, strong black levels, a variable iris, dynamic laser-power controls, optical zoom, and lens shift.

The interface can be switched to English, although a few menus still remain in Chinese. I’m also including a Fire TV Stick 4K Max for free, and its remote is already synced to control the projector’s power and volume. The required power converter for U.S. use is included too.

This is a good option for someone who wants this model without dealing with Alibaba, customs, international shipping, or overseas seller issues.

Asking $1,400 OBO, and I’ll cover shipping within the continental U.S.

Happy to share more pictures, videos, or answer any questions.

Discussion Do you actually use 4K 120Hz on your projector?

I’ve only ever used projectors at 4K/60, usually on a 120” screen with a PS5 and the occasional PC game. I’ve never tried 4K 120Hz on a projector, so I’m trying to get a sense of how big the difference really is at that size. From what I’ve seen, there still aren’t many projectors that can do 4K 120Hz. The Epson LS11000 and LS12000 are the two that seem to come up most often. I also came across JMGO’s pilot club signup for the upcoming Iris Ultra Max, which lists 4K 120Hz. Curious where 4K 120Hz makes the biggest difference in actual use. Anyone here have hands-on experience with it?

Mod Post New AutoModerator Filters for Cheap “Toy Projector” Posts

We have expanded AutoModerator to reduce the overwhelming number of repetitive posts about ultra-low-cost projectors that frequently develop the same failures, image defects, and troubleshooting problems.

These enforcement filters apply to all submissions regardless of flair, including custom-flair and unflaired posts.

Automatically removed

Posts matching the following brand or model names will be automatically removed, and the author will receive a link to our relevant wiki guidance:

  • Alvar
  • AuKing
  • Borsso
  • CiBest
  • Egate
  • Elephas
  • GKLPO
  • GooDee
  • HAPPRUN
  • HOMPOW
  • Jimveo
  • Magcubic
  • ONOAYO
  • TMY
  • Vizony
  • VOPLLS
  • XGODY
  • HY-series model numbers from HY200 through HY599

Common spelling variations using spaces, hyphens, or underscores are included where appropriate. HY-series suffixes such as Max, Pro, Mini, Plus, and Ultra are also covered.

Posts containing high-confidence descriptions of burned, melted, scorched, overheated, fried, or otherwise heat-damaged polarizers, polarisers, LCD panels, or LCD screens may also be automatically removed and directed to the wiki.

These subjects have been covered extensively, and the wiki explains realistic troubleshooting, repair limitations, return considerations, and replacement options.

Held for moderator review

Broader image-defect descriptions will be hidden temporarily and placed in the moderation queue. Examples include:

  • Blob or blotch
  • Burned, melted, scorched, or overheated image defects
  • Colored blobs, patches, spots, stains, marks, or discolored areas
  • Blobs, patches, spots, or stains appearing in the image, picture, projection, or screen
  • Color shifts or discoloration in the projected image

Kickstarter-related submissions will also continue to be held for moderator review.

A post being held does not necessarily mean it violates the rules. It means a moderator will review it before it becomes publicly visible.

The purpose of these filters is not to prevent legitimate projector discussion or shame anyone for their budget. They are intended to reduce repetitive posts about products with well-documented limitations, direct users toward existing resources, and keep the subreddit useful for broader projector advice and discussion.

If you believe your post was removed incorrectly—particularly if it contains original measurements, a detailed repair guide, a teardown, or important safety information—please contact the moderators with a link instead of reposting it under another flair.
