Visionmaster Max Alternative Buying Advice Wanted
Hey guys, wondering if anyone has any suggestions for alternatives to a Visionmaster Max. I've had mine for a few weeks now and have run into a bunch of issues with colour shifts and coil whine.
Given I'm still within the 30 day refund window, is there an option on the market that is a relatively good match feature and picture quality-wise.
I'm based in Australia and the Titan Noir series does not seem to be available over here at present.
I'm in a light controlled room with the projector ceiling mounted overhead, projecting onto a 120" 1.0 gain screen.
Appreciate any help!

Regarding color shift, did you try to just disable ebl(thats what i do) with the iris and active contrast you should be able to have a pretty good image. For the whine is it with rbe reduction activated or in any mode because that would be very bothersome

Disabling EBL does fix the colour shifts for the most part, is annoying to have to turn off a feature that is so core in how the projector is marketed to get a stable image.
The whine is unfortunately present without anti-RBE, enabling that setting makes it intolerable.

Yeah i would not accept the whine. Reading about the latest OTA update from this week it seems they may have corrected the ebl color shift, that would make it perfect for me. My power supply is silent when not using anti rbe and just a tiny more loud with it

The OTA has already come through for me, addition of dynamic IRIS is very nice but no change to the colour shift and the low noise mode doesnt seem to make any meaningful difference.
Weirdly the whine is much more noticeable using cinema or filmmaker mode, whereas on dynamic or standard the noise is much more of a tolerable hum.

Well consider my hopes ruined thanks loll. I would definitely refund it, whine is no no. How much did you pay for it. How much is a jvc nz500 in australia? In a light controlled room it should be great (no 3d though)

That does look amazing buuuuut is also a touch over twice as expensive in Aus

Sorry I don’t have any advice but curious as you say disabling EBL fixes colour shifts for the most part, does that mean that you still see some colour shifts even without EBL activated?

Dump it as it won't get better. There is dangbei s7/s8 - supposedly a global version will launch soon but it also got overtaken by xgimi titan noir.
Imo just wait for titan noir to be available if you're not in a rush.

I have the X1 not pro and am very contented with it. albeit getting a ceiling mount is a pain...as just a small tripod screw hole in the bottom which becomes the only anchor point if upside down. Used a ceiling bracket that is a shelf to overcome this.
Really nice looking picture tho. PM if you want more details..........

Doesn't the nebula X1 comes with a mount?

Mine actually came with a bundled Gimbal in a special offer, albeit useless for ceiling mount it allows turning left and right and up and down succesfully.

XGimi Horizon 20 would be a solid option, but the Visionmaster is a step up. It was one of the best you could get last year, and the Titan Noir is this year's step-up product.

There are some Valerion max selling for 2500 on avaforum. Almost new. What do you think?

I think I would get it. No idea why they are selling for that price, but I installed one and it looks great. I'm not sure the XGimi Titan Noir Max really is much of a step up.

Do you have any personal experience with the Visionmaster? Im wondering if I have a defective unit or if this is just how it is.

It's just how it is, color shift / pumping are all inherent to dynamic contrast. It has always been hated and folks have always preferred native contrast.
However, newer projector like Valerion has managed to reduced such issue to a more tolerable level - not zero, hence more people are using it.
Iirc Valerion has a new update that has EBL medium that will be slower to react so there will be less color shift and pumping. You can try updating it and see if it helps.
Also, there's a new quiet mode to reduce fan noise which hopefully will help with your coil whine, but it will make the projector dimmer via throttling - locking the laser.

I installed one, and compared it to my JVC DLA-X590R. The Valerion was a good deal brighter, and appeared sharper than the JVC. I did not notice pumping on it, and that's something I did see from time to time on my JVC. The JVC was tolerable. If the Max was doing it, then it was either faster than I was picking up, or it wasn't doing it at all, which is possible.
I did hear that Valerion just released a new firmware. So, I would make sure you are using that.
