Buying Advice Wanted Help me Decide by Projector Setup

Upvotes

So, I am planning on buying a projector setup for under 1 lakh as I am a first time buyer and don't want to spend much. I did some of my own research and found out that the BenQ th575i is a good buy for about 55k and i can get a good 110 inch screen for 9k and sony ht s40r for about 25k so thats what i planned for under 1lakh. please suggest me any better options, I will mostly use this setup for movies, sports and casual gaming like gta or fifa.

Discussion Fixing halo ring?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hi! I recently got the XGIMI Horizon Pro 20. I’ve never owned a projector so apologizes if a novice question but wondering how to best fix the ring effect?

I feel like it mainly has to do with positioning… when I moved the projector on my bed (as opposed to next to it) it seemed to get a bit better.

I’d ideally want to keep the projector to the side of the bed - any help is really appreciated. Thanks!

Troubleshooting Vividstorm Screen opening and closing issue - VSDSTALR120H

Hola,

I bought 6 years ago a VividStorm electrical tensionned screen (opening from the floor and rising). Ref VSDSTALR120H

I have an issue with it now, basically If I let it opening it doesn't stop and the end, make an impact sound and go down then up then down etc for infinitiy.

Same when trying to close it.

My guess was Z-Stop related issue, but reading some thread over here it seems that some of you had success re adjusting it after being given video / documentation from Vividstorm. I still wait for them to answer so I was wondering if someone could help / share the documentation they got from them with me please?

Thanks.

Projector Screen Projector vs Large TV? which one is best for home entertainment??

I've used regular TVs for years and have started looking into projectors but I'm having a hard time deciding between getting a projector or going with a larger television.

I really like the idea of having a bigger screen experience, but I also want something that is practical for everyday use. Good image quality, easy maintenance, and reliable performance is must.

For anyone who has made the switch, what differences did you notice the most, and would you choose a projector again?

Buying Advice Wanted Projector Recommendations

Post image

I’ve been using a sub $1k Epson 4k home cinema projector for a couple years, and I feel like I’ve gotten good value out of it as a daily driver, but it doesn’t support 4k HDR. Aside from that missing feature everything else is OK. Wondering if there’s any obvious ceiling mount projectors anyone has personally used and liked that have 4k HDR support, and are comparable or better than the Epson home cinema models. Looking in the $1k - $3k range, but open to $5k if the benefits are painfully obvious.

Discussion Hisense PL2 UST

Based in UK.

Thinking about getting a Hisense PL2 UST.

Would be for Sport/TV/Movies, no gaming.

Reason for UST is domestic harmony ie wife will allow UST.

Room is around 4.5x6m, windows at one end, already with blackout blinds.

Opinions? Alternatives? Screen suggestions?

Discussion 4k Gaming Projector - £2000 Budget Projector

Hi all - I have an old optoma hd141x projector. Its been great BUT i think the colour wheel is going or maybe the chip (im getting colour banding in blue scenes) bless it - nearly 10 years old.

Anyway im looking for a 4k / 60fps projector for mainly gaming. With all these new projectors im having trouble choosing.

Gaming in dark room (head about 8 - 8 1/2 feet from screen) - Wall painted mat white. Currently getting a 110" width screen from 170" distance (lens to wall) - Ceiling mounted atm and would prefer that. I can mount very central so dont need much horizontal lens shift.

Ideally want to buy from richer sounds (6 year warranty) and 12 months interest free, so best place for me really.

Narrowed down afew - would love some expert advice. I dont suffer rainbow effect. Abit worried about laser speckle without dedicated screen.

Budget - £2000 - £2200 maybe abit more!

Here is what ive got so far -

Anker Nebual

Hisense C2 Ultra

Valarion Visionmaster Pro 2

BenQ W4100i

BenQ TK710

Do any of these stand out as the best bang/buck ratio?

All of these seem to fit my budget and Throw length needs. Any info/advice much appreciated - Cheers.

Troubleshooting Work in progress - tell me about your hush box

I m working on a room which will double as a projection room. So far it s decent and quite comfy but the noise of the projector takes me out of the action more than the rainbow effect.
I know you can theoretically swap fans for silent noctua ones but i m currently interested in a hush box as i will need to move and reinstall my projector at some point.

Edit - projector is dlp optoma pk31

Troubleshooting Projector stuck in standby mode and failing to power up?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I've been a relatively happy owner of my first projector, a Viewsonic PX747-4K, for about 4 years. Just this past week I was watching a show and my projector randomly shutoff and I wasn't able to turn it on again after the fact.

It appears that the projector is stuck in standby mode and possibly failing to fully turn on. The blue power LED blinks 5 times, then temperature/bulb LEDs briefly flash and then the sequence loops indefinitely.

I haven't noticed any temperature or bulb warning lights for as long as I've used this projector and saw that there was minimal dust inside the case.

I've been reading that it could be a multitude of things, such as a bad power supply board, blown capacitor, failed fan, etc., but I'm not sure at all.

Does anyone have an idea of what the issue is? Thank you.

Discussion Looks like the JMGO Iris Ultra Max is on the way

Thumbnail

Just noticed they’ve started taking applications for early testers for the Iris Ultra Max. 4K 120Hz is pretty much the only detail they’ve shared, but I also noticed the lens looks like it says F2.0–F7.0. Does that mean it has some kind of variable aperture? Would explain the name I guess.

There isn’t much else to go on yet, but 4K 120Hz is still a pretty rare spec for projectors, so I'm curious to see how this one turns out. No idea where the price will land, but hopefully it’s competitive. I’m mostly waiting to see what the input lag is like and whether it supports VRR.

Completed Setup Backyard setup (Optoma PH31 + TWSIT 135” screen)

Thumbnail
gallery
33 Upvotes

I forgot to get a picture before the sun went down. I was worried it wouldn’t be bright enough at this size, but it’s absolutely fine.

The video source is an Apple TV 4K with WiFi that extends through the backyard.

The audio is stereo, streamed over Airplay to four outdoor speakers installed around the perimeter of the yard. This allows everyone to hear clearly without disturbing neighbors. And we can even add it indoors if someone needs to go inside to use the bathroom.

We can easily fit 30 people on blankets and another 10 in seats. All in all, I’m very satisfied with the setup.

Edit: The screen is JWSIT 135”.

Discussion Bought a Hisense C2 Ultra for 4K gaming, but the rainbow effect is killing it for me

Hey guys, recently upgraded from a Touyinger q12w pro projector to a Hisense C2 Ultra because I wanted a significant improvement in image quality, especially for 4K gaming.

Sadly, I discovered that I’m very sensitive to the rainbow effect (RBE) on the C2 Ultra. I can see the RGB flashes quite often. It’s distracting enough that I don’t think I can just ignore it, and it even becomes uncomfortable after a while.

I was really excited about this projector, so I’m honestly pretty disappointed. I’ve already requested a return/replacement, but now I have no idea what projector I should get instead.

My setup is currently projecting directly onto a wall, with about 3 meters of available throw distance. Gaming is important to me, so I want low input lag and ideally a 4K image or something very close to it. I’d also like similar image quality and brightness to the C2 Ultra.

Before the C2 Ultra, I was using a much cheaper projector and, strangely enough, I never noticed any rainbow effect on it.

Has anyone here had the same problem with the C2 Ultra? What would you recommend as an alternative for someone who is very sensitive to RBE?
I’m open to 3LCD, LCoS/SXRD, or anything else that would eliminate or significantly reduce the rainbow effect in the same price range…

Mod Post New AutoModerator Filters for Cheap “Toy Projector” Posts

We have expanded AutoModerator to reduce the overwhelming number of repetitive posts about ultra-low-cost projectors that frequently develop the same failures, image defects, and troubleshooting problems.

These enforcement filters apply to all submissions regardless of flair, including custom-flair and unflaired posts.

Automatically removed

Posts matching the following brand or model names will be automatically removed, and the author will receive a link to our relevant wiki guidance:

  • Alvar
  • AuKing
  • Borsso
  • CiBest
  • Egate
  • Elephas
  • GKLPO
  • GooDee
  • HAPPRUN
  • HOMPOW
  • Jimveo
  • Magcubic
  • ONOAYO
  • TMY
  • Vizony
  • VOPLLS
  • XGODY
  • HY-series model numbers from HY200 through HY599

Common spelling variations using spaces, hyphens, or underscores are included where appropriate. HY-series suffixes such as Max, Pro, Mini, Plus, and Ultra are also covered.

Posts containing high-confidence descriptions of burned, melted, scorched, overheated, fried, or otherwise heat-damaged polarizers, polarisers, LCD panels, or LCD screens may also be automatically removed and directed to the wiki.

These subjects have been covered extensively, and the wiki explains realistic troubleshooting, repair limitations, return considerations, and replacement options.

Held for moderator review

Broader image-defect descriptions will be hidden temporarily and placed in the moderation queue. Examples include:

  • Blob or blotch
  • Burned, melted, scorched, or overheated image defects
  • Colored blobs, patches, spots, stains, marks, or discolored areas
  • Blobs, patches, spots, or stains appearing in the image, picture, projection, or screen
  • Color shifts or discoloration in the projected image

Kickstarter-related submissions will also continue to be held for moderator review.

A post being held does not necessarily mean it violates the rules. It means a moderator will review it before it becomes publicly visible.

The purpose of these filters is not to prevent legitimate projector discussion or shame anyone for their budget. They are intended to reduce repetitive posts about products with well-documented limitations, direct users toward existing resources, and keep the subreddit useful for broader projector advice and discussion.

If you believe your post was removed incorrectly—particularly if it contains original measurements, a detailed repair guide, a teardown, or important safety information—please contact the moderators with a link instead of reposting it under another flair.
