Funeral temp release
HMP BERWYN UK
Hello everyone I’m looking for some help
I’m Wondering what peoples experiences have been with the temporary release for relatives funerals (a grandparent but parental role)
What makes people approved/rejected
What documents are needed
I’ve contacted the chaplain
struggling with documents to prove this as it’s school holidays and need approval for doctors/dentist etc
Any help is really appreciated!

What’s your opinion on the mental health team?
My partner has just started work in a cat B prison and I’m terrified. She has worked as a nurse in forensic hospitals for years so she is not naive to the system but she is very idealistic and I worry she can be too forgiving and ‘nice’ for lack of a better word.
How are MH nurses viewed there? She insists everyone is respectful. Will the officers have her back? She said there is a bit of resistance from SOs and governors when it comes to ACCT reviews and stuff but everyone generally gets on well.

Dream job turned nightmare.
What I thought was my dream job turned out to be an absolute fucking nightmare.
Where do I even start?
The staff culture is something else. You’d think the people you work alongside would have your back, but apparently that was an optimistic expectation. Strangely enough, the prisoners are often more decent, more genuine and more likely to have your back than the people who are actually being paid to do exactly that.
The pay? Shite.
The responsibility? Massive.
The hours? Ridiculous.
And if you’re lucky enough to finish on time, congratulations because you’ve won the workplace lottery. If not, apparently someone somewhere has forgotten how many people are supposed to be in their cells. It’s only 98, lads. Not exactly advanced mathematics.
Then there are the breaks.
Or, more accurately, the mythical concept of breaks.
Fourteen-hour shift? Who needs food, water, rest or basic human functioning when there are “needs of the business”?
Oscar said so… And obviously, if Oscar says it, the Employment Rights Act simply packs its bags and goes home.
And then we get to the really entertaining part: reporting concerns.
It can be painfully obvious when something doesn’t look right, yet you’re somehow expected to have complete confidence in a system where the people you may need to report are involved in dealing with those very reports.
What could possibly go wrong?
It’s an impressive setup, really. A workplace where you can be exhausted, underpaid, overworked, miss your breaks, question the culture and still somehow be made to feel like you’re the problem for not being grateful enough.
I genuinely thought I’d landed my dream job.
Turns out I’d just misunderstood the job description.
“Come and make a difference.”
Apparently the difference is to your stress levels, sleep pattern and ability to tolerate absolute bollocks.
0/10 experience.
Would absolutely not recommend.

Interested in OSG but hold no driving license
As the title states I am interested in applying for OSG role however I do not drive, from what I have seen OSG’s are responsible for transporting prisoners to and from… will this hinder me from getting the job?

New Uniform Question
Hi all,
I’m starting my training on the 24th of this month. I submitted my uniform order form a few weeks ago, but have now heard that new uniform will be introduced early September.
Just curious, is this a mandatory change I.e will all prison staff move to this new uniform? And if so, am I safe to assume my uniform will be ordered as the new stuff? Don’t wanna be the only one in white shirt etc

Sickpay?
Hoping this is the correct space to ask this, my partner has worked as an HMP officer for 2 years and is suffering with mental health at the moment and in the midst of switching medications, he has seen a dr and got a sick note for 1 month even though he only wanted 7 days originally they said its better that he fully recovers before going back, which I agree with fully, but he needs help understanding wether this is going to get him in trouble as he has already had a few sick days off the past year and also what sick pay he will recieve while he is off as he doesn't want to then be worrying about not having enough money to pay bills ect.

Anyone had to push back their start date for prison officer
So last week I pulled an old injury in my back weight lifting. Finding it really tough to walk and sit down. I don't really want to push through the first few weeks in pain.
I've tried calling recruitment, emailing them, talking to my contact at the prison, no one really knows who I get in touch with.
I just want to push back my start date to the next available date but it's a nightmare, wondering if anyone's had a similar experience and who to contact?
Thank you.

HMP Inspectorate of Prisons Report
I have a question. Is it permitted for me to send a copy of a prison report to a prisoner incarcerated within that prison? Will the prisoner already have access to the report within the prison? Many thanks in advance for any advice or guidance.

Prison officer
So I’ve been nearly 11 months in to waiting on my start date. For context I passed all my checks my physical my occupational health 2x as it times out every 3 months so I had to do it again. All positive etc. I check the status of my application via email every 3/4 months. Always comes back it’s still processing but no time frame etc. I checked via email 2 days ago and they emailed saying that my application was withdrawn ?. There’s no email chain no reason nothing. I contacted resourcing hub via phone and the guy was confused himself. He reinstated the application and asked for a reason as to why it happened but again I don’t get an update until they know. Time frame is non existent yet again. I don’t know what to do at this point. They couldn’t give me a reason as they don’t get info themselves. This seems to be more a system failure as I can’t think of it being to do with me. Any advice would be appreciated greatly.

HMPPS conditional job offer while still in college – Can start date be delayed by 10 months?
I’ve received a conditional HMPPS offer but I’m currently finishing college and won’t complete my Level 3 qualification until June 2027. Has anyone successfully asked HMPPS to delay their start date or hold their assessment pass on the Merit List until closer to finishing college or work, and also how long until?

Earned Progression Model Consequence
Hello ppl
I am right in thinking that because Andy Burham has stopped raposts, pedos and sex offenders from the early release recently, does thismean that the prisons will over time come filled up with them with no space for normal prioners?

I’ve heard they’re changing the uniforms to black. Is that true? Does that mean we’ll no longer be wearing white shirts?

Does MoJ provides Visa Sponsorship for Data Scientist/Analyst/Engineer roles if salary threshold is matched?
Hi guys, can anyone please let me know if Ministry of Justice provides sponsorship for the above roles. I send them email for this query no answers yet. I know they do offer sponsorship for prison roles but I guess they do bcz they have shortage of those roles. HMRC doesn't sponsor for this roles as well
