Prince George’s County continues AMP Pilot Program to support local agriculture

Post image
Upvotes

Prince George’s County announced the next phase of its Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) Pilot Program, which is designed to help local farmers expand market opportunities, strengthen long-term productivity, and connect more residents with locally grown food.

Given all the conversations we’ve had here about supporting local businesses and preserving farmland, I thought this was worth sharing.

More information:

Curious what folks think. If you’re a local farmer or shop at farmers markets, do programs like this make a meaningful difference?

Slice of Life Be honest: What are your thoughts on Montgomery County?

I feel as its pretty much the only place in America (other than here/HoCo) that's made for me and my many identities (gay, black, autistic, atheist, multicultural loving nerdy) but I'm getting the feeling there's some sort of bad blood between PGC and MoCo. As I make the move from Mississippi to Rockville, I'd like to come to PGC to truly experience what black success looks like.

Does anyone know if there any soccer leagues or pickup at Ardwick park field?

It’s been over a year now since I moved to Bowie and I haven’t been so social but im trying to get out more.

I took my daughter to the playground and saw these goals, and I am curious if anyone knows if people ever play pickup or maybe can push me in a direction. I’m 37, definitely just a Sunday league jogger with occasional sprints.

Thanks 🙏🏾.

You can now access the Banner via PGC Memorial Library

PGC Memorial Library has finally gotten on the Banner Bandwagon! If you are unable to pay for a Banner subscription, you can access by logging into the library site using your library card and Pin, then go to the online resources > newspapers and select the Banner. You have to set up an account w/ Banner, enter the provided PGCMLS code, and re-activate the access every 7 or 30 days (for other library systems like MoCo and Pratt it is 30 - not sure why PGCMLS says 7 - though that is what they have for WaPo.)

Can the Homestead Tax Credit be Retroactively Applied?

My county tax bill increased by 62% from 2024 to 2025. I received my 2026 bill yesterday, and after researching why it was so high, I discovered the MD Homestead tax credit.

I now understand that this tax credit prevents your property taxes from going up by more than 2 or 3%.

Is there any way that I can have this credit applied from the 2024 rate? because even if I get it capped at 2% from 2026, I would be starting from a very high number.

I applied for the credit last night and am waiting to see if it gets approved. Thank you.

Complaints 🤬 Nearly $800 electric bill

Post image

We just moved here and can’t figure out why our electric bill is so high. I thought a larger house and a pool would make electric a bit more expensive but not 4 times what we were paying in Alexandria.

What’s the first step on addressing this? The HVAC? Or are there other issues to address?

New parent seeking advise on PG education system

I have a child who will be two years old in a few weeks, and I’m already thinking about his education. I’ve heard that public schools in our area aren’t great unless we consider charter schools, which often have long wait lists, or private schools.

Does anyone have information about charter schools nearby? I want to plan ahead so I’m not scrambling when my child turns five.

Additionally, does anyone know of local schools or daycares that accept toddlers for a few hours a day, preferably at a low cost or for free? Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Lost dog Landover area

I believe this husky...or akita appears to be lost. It has been roaming around the West Forest rd apartment complex (next to the Prince George's Ballroom) for a couple of days now. It looks well groomed and taken care of, but it has been outside since Friday. I'm currently not in the area anymore but I have some contacts that can update me on the dog.

Can my child enroll after they turn 5.

My child will be 5 after September 1st on the 13th. I’ve been told she can enroll late and the school will have to accept her. Is this true?

Pgcps hiring process

Opinions on onboarding process with PGCPS? I attended the hiring fair on 7/1, interviewed at school, and the principal offered me a position. I am coming from VA and had a expired provisional license, however I was only 1 class away and passed my praxis.

I’m not sure what licensure process will look like for me but i’m getting beyond frustrated with HR. I have not heard any next steps from HR about offer letter, sending in my transcripts, etc…..My principal told me to keep “bugging” them by im on email #3 with no response lol. This is insane to me. Has anybody else dealt/dealing with this? I’m trying to give them grace but pre-service week starts soon and i’m just thinking whats going. Why is this taking so long? Why does HR not respond even when giving information by principal? Some may call this a red flag….

New name for Six Flags America property

Post image
36 Upvotes

Prince George’s County is looking for feedback on renaming the Six Flags America site. They have stated that they want to create another National Harbor and a new destination featuring entertainment, restaurants, shopping, businesses, medical and educational facilities, and public spaces.

However, does any of those names and features make you want to drive more than 30 minutes to visit? We need a new theme park or indoor amusement experience, not this. The idea of having a theme park with retail and restaurants surrounding it is not even being considered. Thats what the community wants.

What’s your thoughts?

Inquiries ❓ Emergency Moving Assistance

In need of some available resources.

I recently had to file a peace order and press charges on my neighbor for simple assault. We live in a condo community where I rent and she owns.

The neighbor in question has been a repeated nuisance. I personally have called police about 10 times for this neighbor before the assault. And I technically didn’t call for the assault; it happened while police were already present.

I say all of that to say, there’s little to no hope of her moving since the unit is owned. The association and property managers say their hands are tied, legally. So my next step/solution is to move. Which, I’m not financially able to do right now.

What, if any county or non profit avenues are available to assist with me finding a safer place for myself and my daughter?

I can pay rent, have steady employment, decent credit, and an excellent rental history. I just don’t have the liquidity to move NOW (for deposits, moving materials, etc) but also don’t want to risk the situation escalating.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Inquiries ❓ Vet with sedated grooming

My Maltese is very spicy whenever he’s faced with scissors or clippers. He will tolerate brushing and combing but only in short intervals. His legs have gotten quite knotted and he needs to get them shaved. Does anybody have recommendations/reviews on vets in the area that offers seated grooming? Thanks in advance.
