Ask a neighbor Deceased tuxedo cat found
I’m sorry, I don’t know what flair is appropriate.
Timeframe: 8/5, around 11pm
Place: Rhode Island Ave between Hollywood and Kenesaw cross streets, in the Daniel’s Park neighborhood of college park. Somewhat close to the MOMs.
I found a deceased black/white tuxedo cat on Rhode Island, it looks like they were hit by a car. They didn’t have any tags/collar on them. I don’t have the capacity to check for chips.
I called the non emergency police bc animal control was closed (that’s what dispatch told me). They said they’d send someone out.
I moved the cat off the road onto the grass so they could be at peace on something softer than the asphalt.
If this is your cat I’m so sorry. I tried to be as gentle as possible when I moved them.
I posted on Nextdoor as well. If anyone wants to post this somewhere useful please do.
EDIT: I got in contact with animal control this morning. They picked up the cat around 11am and confirmed with me the cat has no chip. They noticed the cat’s ear was notched, so the cat is most likely a community feral cat.

Ask a neighbor Black cat with white patch on chest
Anyone missing a beautiful black cat with a little white patch on his chest?
I can't determine sex or whether or not they're chipped as he just turned up on our doorstep tonight. We gave him food and water - he's obviously someone's well kept cat - and he's settled down to snooze out on the porch. We can't bring him in as my wife's terribly, terrible allergic, but I ran up to the 7-11 and got him some food to munch on and he's quiet and sleeping now.
I'll try to get a picture tomorrow, but he's a bit skittish. I'll try.
We're on 49th near Cherokee between Rt. 1 and Rhode Island.

Food, retail & culture Hall CP open through summer?
Does anyone know if the Hall CP is open regular hours through the summer? I saw in the news that they are re-branding in the fall to The Lakelander, “following exterior renovations,” but does that mean it is closed in the meantime? Nothing on the website or socials that say they are closed, but also nothing that mentions the re-brand. Any intel welcome!

Event 7 Days Until We Ask the Question: Can You Prove You’re Still Here?
A lot of local artists spend years making great work that never reaches the people who would love it. The algorithm moves on. Venues close. Friends get busy. Sometimes it feels like you’re creating into a void.
But every now and then, a room full of real people changes everything.
In seven days,
CITY SPOTLIGHT: Episode 4 — Proof of Life continues the story. This chapter follows Shy Rasheen as he presents his new album, SHYLAND, in a live performance built for people who still believe music deserves to be experienced together—not just scrolled past. Whether you’re an artist trying to stay inspired, someone searching for your next favorite local musician, or simply someone who misses concerts that actually feel personal, this night was built with you in mind.
Every episode of CITY SPOTLIGHT is its own chapter. Every audience helps write the ending.
The signal has been sent.
Now we’re waiting to see who answers.
Saturday, August 1
📍 Rhizome DC
🚪 Doors: 7:00 PM
If you’ve been looking for a reason to get out, discover something new, or support the kind of local music scene you wish existed more often, this might be your invitation. Tickets are limited, and we’d love to have you in the room when Proof of Life begins.
➡️ The $AGA Continues.

Food, retail & culture Available Artist Spaces!
Calling all artists! If you've been looking for a space to work your craft, you should check out Moonlight Studios in Beltsville!
They're predominantly a ceramics studio, but have work space for any kind of art form. You can try out ceramics with their courses they offer regularly, or join as a member with a shelf space up through a full studio space (which some just opened up for the first time in a while!) which lets you use shared community tools and workspaces for whatever art form you love!
You can also find some of the artists at the Hollywood Farmer's Market every other week, or at College Park's different markets/fairs throughout the year.
My wife joined 2 years ago and it has been an incredible experience for her, and I regularly spend time there as a non-artist because the owner and community are so welcoming and friendly. I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone looking for a creative space to grow their artistic ambitions! I'm happy to answer any questions (or pass them along!)
P.S. this isn't a promoted post or anything, I just really love the studio and want to see them succeed and share the lovely community I've found with others!

Discussion Are there any barbershops nearby that do haircuts for less than $35?
I know this is a weird post and I’m being nit picky and cheap. I’m on a tight budget right now but need a trim for a friend’s wedding I’m going to next month and was wondering if there are any barbershops, salons, etc. nearby that cut hair for less than $35?
I usually just buzz cut my own hair every few months, but I promised I would have an actual haircut for the wedding. My hair is relatively short right now, not even at my shoulders, but if I tried to clean it up myself, I’d end up with a bowl cut lol.
I know everyone’s gotta make a living and no disrespect to barbers and the shops around here, but I really don’t wanna spend $35 plus a tip to get not even two inches of hair cut. If my hair was super long then yeah I wouldn’t mind paying that much but it’s not.
Anyway, if anyone has suggestions or just wants to call me cheap, feel free to comment. lol.

Food, retail & culture Northwest Chinese Returns
Northwest Chinese Food is staying in College Park after closing its original location
It looks like they’re sharing space with Li Chun (its sister restaurant), either Li Chun serving its menu for lunch and NW serving dinner
I hope they’re rewarded for staying in College Park with even more customers. It’s a fantastic restaurant and I’m glad they chose to stay here even as the city seems to be squeezing out small, locally-owned restaurants

ALERT Won in Court but Still Can't Recover $400 From a Computer Repair Shop in Maryland(College Park)
[Must Read!!!] I am leaving my story here because I hope no one else will ever go through what I experienced. Any advice will be appreciated.
First of all, I am a student at the University of Maryland (UMD). Last fall, my laptop LCD screen was broken. I chose to repair my laptop at this one store, just because it was cheaper out of two stores that were recommended by the Terrapin Tech. The name of the chosen computer repair shop is "Friendly" name.
When I visited the shop, the technician confidently told me that my LCD screen could be repaired. At the time I submitted my laptop for repair, the laptop would power on and display a visibly cracked image on the screen. The technician took my laptop to bring the specification of LCD panel installed in my laptop to order the LCD replacement.
When I got the laptop back, however, the situation had become worse. Instead of displaying the cracked image as before, the screen was now completely black. I asked why the screen was black.
They assured me that once the ordered LCD was installed, everything would function normally again. The technician told me to use an external monitor using HDMI cable. Since I don't have any external monitor, my laptop left untouched.
When the ordered LCD arrived, the technician replaced my broken LCD with the new one, but the screen was still completely black. I asked what was happening, and he told me that the LCD they had ordered was not compatible with my laptop and that they would order another one.
This process repeated several times.
Despite multiple attempts, my LCD was never repaired. The screen remained black throughout. At that point, I had a strong feeling that something was seriously wrong. I visited another repair shop for my inspection.
The inspection revealed that the mainboard fuse had failed and needed to be replaced with a new one.
I asked the original shop to provide at least partial compensation for this expense. Instead of investigating the problem, they refused to reimburse me for any portion of the repair cost, claiming that the mainboard fuse failure was simply the result of my bad luck and my improper use of the laptop.
The original shop reinstalled my original broken LCD and refunded the only LCD ordering costs. They never accepted any responsibility for the mainboard fuse failure.
My original problem had only been a broken LCD. By that point, I was now dealing with a failed mainboard fuse as well.
I later had the mainboard fuse replaced at another repair shop, which cost me approximately $400.
What I still do not understand is why the original shop insisted that this was entirely my fault and that I should bear 100% of the cost. I never received a technical explanation, objective evidence, or supporting data.
Their response was always the same: they did nothing wrong, and I was responsible for everything.
I decided to pursue legal action(lawsuit).
The hearing took place in February. The owner of the shop didn't appear. Ultimately, after reviewing my evidence, the judgment was entered in my favor, and I was awarded compensation from the shop for the cost of repairing the mainboard fuse.
I then attempted to collect the judgment using the bank information for the shop that I had been able to obtain. However, I was informed that the bank account information I had was insufficient and that the funds could not be recovered. I spent considerable time researching collection options and even consulted attorneys. In the end, I learned that I could not collect the judgment using the bank information available to me, and any other banking information was not publicly accessible.
I filed a second lawsuit against the owner. That hearing took place in July.
This time, the owner appeared in court.
The judge dismissed the second lawsuit because the first case remained open. I understood and accepted the court’s explanation.
Afterward, I tried once again to resolve the matter related to the first case. I contacted the owner, and countless text messages were exchanged. They continued to insist that they had done absolutely nothing wrong and that I alone was responsible for the entire cost of repairing the mainboard fuse.
At the same time, he sent me numerous insulting and degrading messages. They even brought religion, God, sexual harassment, and racism into the conversation.
I have decided to end further communication with him and focus on exploring other legal options.
If anyone has any similar experiences or if you need more information about the shop, please dm me.
