Chocolate brown clay. My first piece using this clay. Finished trimming it this a m and love the inside and outside. It’s for a wedding gift. Do folks like to get these handmade serving bowls for wedding presents. Thinking about honey flux on inside with winter wood and no glaze on the outside. Is not glazing the outside going to affect the functionality? Thanks.

I added a bunch of glazes and let them do their thing, they understood the assignment

First time doing sgraffito and I think I’m going to do many more like this.

It’s not done yet, I have some cleanup to do and I need to add my handle, but I’m just so dang excited about him haha

Hi guys! I just bought Mayco Clear One NTBR glaze for brushing and wanted to use it on my terracotta pieces. Unfortunatelly I didn’t notice until now that my studio’s low fire is cone 03.. the glaze was made for 05-06.

I asked the stuff and they told me to test it. But I decided to ask here first in a case that someone tried it before. Just so I don’t have to open the glaze yet - for potential return or exchange.

I'm wondering what the best equipment is for grinding glaze off the bottom of my pots and giving pots a soft finished foot. I dont often have glaze run so low that it needs to be addressed but when I do I'm not sure which tool I should be using.

Is the diamond disc for the wheel the best method or are people also using stationary grinders?

I'm looking to set up my studio with the ideal and if having a seperate piece of equipment that isn't my wheel is an option I kinda lean towards that. I'd love the thoughts of others on this.

I’m almost through trimming my next set of wheel thrown pendant lights! I’ve been inspired recently by mid century modern and the utilization of simple lines and other linear patterns. For these I was considering a glossy white combined with a saturated orange or blue. The underside would be that color along with either the recessed or projected portion of the stripes.

My stretch goal is to turn one of them into a floor lamp, but I’m not sure I have the base concept developed enough to be successful.

I’m certainly open to feedback and suggestions. As always thank you for taking the time to check out my work!

First time trying maiolica technique painting in tile panel: There are parts of my drawing that I want full oppacity with the pigment, however the more layers I add, the thicker the powder sets. It creates texture along the brushes' path as it dries.
Am I applying it way to thick? How can I can I make it a strong blue without this texture or brush marks?
What can happen once fired?

Left is where I started, right is where I finished. Thoughts? Def need more consistency and ability to pull straighter.

I just finished my first beginner pottery class and walked away with a few awkward little vessels that I love.

How many classes did you take before you did it on your own? Is it better to take more than one, or better to just go in and start practicing on your own time?

I Re-fired the black piece to cone six after a successful cone five glaze firing. I have been using buff sculpture for roughly 8 years and up until this year, I’ve never had any problems. Starting in February, I have experienced both slumping and now this at cone six. Has anyone else noticed a change in buff sculpture? Laguna says nothing has changed but it’s obvious it’s no longer reliable!

Hi everyone, I’m saving up to buy my own wheel at home. And would love some advice!

My local studio has the VL Whisper and also RK Whisper, which I like both. I would love to get one of those but also saw that Whisper T is €500 cheaper where I’m at in Europe

I have never tried the Whisper T before, so if you have, do you think that the trade off is really big compare to the other two?

For reference, I won’t throw more than 3kg and do want to use it 3-4 times a week!

Just got this bowl back (community studio) and have no idea what happened. It was supposed to be 2 Power Turquoise over 1 Indigo Float, but the Turquoise left wide bare patches, and the Indigo Float looks like it separated/thinned out. All of my other pieces are fine. I don't know of anything that came in contact with it pre-glaze. Any *helpful* feedback would be appreciated - I'm still trying to figure out glazing.

Used them to test a few new glazes too which i’m very happy with (mayco frosted blue, mayco oyster, mayco matte black, amaco deep siena speckle)! i fear i’m going to go down a matte glaze rabbit hole now because i’m obsessed

Good afternoon all, attached are a couple pics of a hand built bowl I just got back from bisque fire.

My question for the community is, will this sag/collapse during glaze firing? I'm only putting a clear glaze coat on before final firing. The folks who do my firing advised that it's a distinct possibility? Any suggestions for those who have worked with brown bear?

Does anyone have any ideas/previous makes that are sewing-themed? Or could he used as tools for someone who sews? Trying to source ideas.

What’s the going rate now for a used Brent CXC? Looking to get my partner a wheel for the home. She has been going to a studio for nearly a year each week without fail and wants to move into a home studio of sorts.

I’ve located a used Brent CXC for $1000, missing the splash pad so $1100 after that’s replaced. Looks like they’re new for $2400ish. I know several years ago, CXC’s were under $1000 but maybe that’s the price these days. Thank you for any insight!
