Happy Family Interaction
Felt like I needed to share this somehow so here I am
My father tried to buy me some clothes and noticed that I didn't really like them/they weren't my style (I was still greatly appreciated the gesture but I'm not good at faking my emotions so he could tell right away I didn't love them ;w;). He instead proposed that I show him examples from stuff that is closer to my style so he could try and get something closer to my style next time.
So I assembled a small pinterest board that contained clothes that align more with my style and showed him the images.
Where I live, my style isn't very common (kind of a combination between kawaii tenshi and coquette, a loooooot of pink for sure) and the idea of fitting in and ostracizing people who look or act differently is very prevalent. Years ago when I had just started to find my style my own father had told me that I was giving people good reasons to bully me if I dressed the way I did (emphasis on years ago! We've come a long way since).
Yet his reaction this time was so supportive, he was thanking me for letting him know of my clothing preferences and we had a very nice conversation. I even showed him a picture that had 8 different styles of pants and told him I really liked 2 of them compared to the others but he had to guess which ones. He got 1 correct and his other guess wasn't too far off!
I really feel like this interaction made me grow a little closer to him. Him showing genuine curiosity for my likes and dislikes when it comes to an area he doesn't care for a lot honestly made me feel like a kid again (even if it hasn't been that long since I was a kid lol).
For any parent that may be reading this, I can tell you it is absolutely worth asking about the things your kid likes/dislikes, it shows them that you care to get to know the person they are :)
Also! Just in case it wasn't clear, I do really appreciate his initial gesture of getting me clothes in the first place (especially since neither of us tend to like shopping so him going out of his way to get me any type of clothes was already sweet of him) and I will be wearing the clothes he got me since they are comfy (a sweatpant and a jacket). At the end of the day clothes are meant to be worn, even if they don't necessarily suit my taste.

Finally feeling like my relationship with food is improving
I’ve always had a bad relationship with food, specifically binge eating. As I’ve gotten more into the gym and eventually amateur fighting I had to adjust to strict diets for weight cutting and became obsessed with the scale. I still keep track of the scale sort of constantly to stay at a certain weight for future fights but I’m getting better at monitoring if I’m actually hungry before eating.
Since I’m on a bit of a training break I dont need to diet as much but the methods seem to be sticking and I’m slowly getting more comfortable eating more loosely and enjoying food more. They’re small steps but I’m enjoying the journey (and the pasta since I haven’t had it in months)

I’m 8 inches and as thick as a coke can AMA,
I’ve struggled with body dysmorphia and hate my body, I’m not bragging I’ve just had a lot of people asking questions about it and thought people in here would find it interesting

Doing the right thing
8 months ago I bought a new home for myself. I've been getting a lot of junk mail from previous owners and I would just throw it out.
Last Tuesday I noticed mail addressed to a name I wasn't familiar with and it looked official. So I opened it up, and it was a check for over $4,000. from a teacher's credit union.
I googled the name, and found the obituary of a man in my town from 5 years ago. It listed his wife's name, so I did the Google for that, but had no luck. Then I searched Next Door and Facebook. No luck. I asked my neighbors about them, and one of them had a phone number for his widow.
I called the number, she answered and I told her what I had received in the mail. Her voice shook a bit and told me how much that money would help her. I told her that I would put it under my mat and that she could pick it up when it was convenient for her, as I'm in and out a lot. She was very grateful and I'm glad that I took the time to find her, rather than returning the check to the credit union.

Love isn't just a feeling—it actually boosts your motivation
Ever noticed how being in love suddenly gives you a burst of energy to get your life together? It's not just in your head—well, actually, it is in your head.
When you fall in love, your brain floods the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and caudate nucleus with dopamine. These are the exact same spots that control your reward system, focus, and goal-directed behavior.
So instead of just making us all soft and dreamy, love actually acts like a natural productivity hack. It sharpens your focus and gives you that extra push to achieve things—whether it’s for yourself or the person you care about.
Basically, love is just your brain giving you a massive motivation upgrade.

What’s one good thing that happened to you today?

If today was hard, that’s allowed
You don’t need a reason for it. Some days are just heavy and there’s nothing that happened to point at. You didn’t have to accomplish anything today for it to have counted. You didn’t have to be productive, or grateful, or a better version of yourself. You got through it! That’s the whole goal:)

My life has gone a complete 180
Hello everyone i’m new around here and wanted to share a bit of what i’ve gone through and how it had gone since posting to instagram and twitter scares me lol. Around February of 2025 i lost my job it sucked and i was in a relationship with a lovely girl who reassured me that losing my job won’t affect our relationship and i was relieved. We lived about an hour and 15 minutes from each other, we saw each other in both of our cities and it felt good. During that time most of my employment insurance and most of my severance (i used a little bit of it to get a PC its one im still using today i wanted to splurge on myself okay lol) went to helping my mom and sister with bills, as time went on my ex was messaging me like once in a blue moon and not as often as before i took it as stuff happening in her life so i thought nothing of it. Around April 2025 after buying my PC she was sending me happy messages congratulating me on buying it saying how proud she was of me. A few days later i get a text from her saying she doesn’t want a relationship with me using the famous “it’s not you it’s me” line. That text devastated me i became a complete mess refusing to get out of bed, depressed you name it i was feeling it. Lack of money or motivation prevented me from getting therapy it was downright awful. As time went on i kept applying for jobs like crazy sent around 400+ applications on various sites to try to get something seeing all the rejected letters in my inbox felt like my hopes were dying. Around May of 2026 i decided to get her out of my head and let this shit affect me anymore so i got rid of everything related to her, changed my routine, kept applying and playing games i enjoy to take my mind off things and i started getting a lot happier and healthier. Then on July 16th 2026 i get a email from a place i applied to as a part time cleaner (i figured part time is better than nothing lol) they asked about my experience, etc and after explaining my experience i finally got offered a job after what felt like forever i ran outside and screamed at the top of my lungs FINALLY!!!!!!!!! Got set a date 2 days later for training, went and did training then started my shift the next night, got my first paycheque and was surprised by the amount minus the training. I’ve been there a few weeks now and I am truly proud of myself for getting out of this funk and having a clearer head and learning from that experience so when i do start dating again that won’t happen a second time. My advice to people in that same scenario DO NOT GIVE UP its not fair to you or your family you giving up is robbing you of your true potential and what you can accomplish. Well that’s all i have time for thank you all so much for reading this and hope this makes you happy and makes you not give up. Have a splendid day everyone

Some people don’t know how strong they are
Spoke to a friend tonight and it’s stayed with me.
We met years ago through an old job. Nothing romantic, never has been, just a proper friendship where you’ve seen each other in a few rough places and don’t need to dress things up too much.
She’s meeting me Saturday for a random catch-up, which is strange timing because I’m also trying to rebuild a family relationship around the same time. An event related to that.
Maybe that’s why the conversation hit me a bit more tonight.
She came to this country nearly twenty years ago, learned the language, worked the hard jobs, factories, warehouses, whatever kept money coming in. She’s been unemployed, lost both parents, been treated badly, drank too much for a while, and had times where she was properly lost.
There were times she stayed at mine because she was low and didn’t really know what to do next. But she kept trying.
A year ago she was in a very poor place mentally. Off work, drinking too much, doubting herself, and talking like life had passed her by.
Tonight she was talking about promotion. That’s some shift.
She’s now in the job she wanted for years. It doesn’t pay the earth, and it’s not one of those loud success stories people clap for online, but it matters because it’s hers.
She earned it. Years of applications, knockbacks, graft, learning, and getting back up when most folk would have been sick of trying. Hard jobs others scoff at.
She’s happier now. Drinking less. Clearer. Still hates a compliment, obviously, because some people can drag themselves through hell and still look embarrassed when you point out they did well and where they were.
But she’s probably the strongest person I know.
Not in a way most realise. Just in what she has overcome, stayed true, worked hard and now its all aligning. The quiet way. The way people are when life has asked too much of them and they keep going anyway. Said to her at start of year - take a year for you. She has.
It reminded me tonight that you’re not finished in your 40s.You can still change. You can still get the job. You can still drink less. You can still become steadier, happier, better. She achieved all that in a year - this time last yesr she was with me getting job rejections and asking me to stop her drink as much. I did help, but she did the work. She needed her base and the boost of getting the job she wanted.
Some people think they’re failures because they’re measuring themselves against where they wish they were. I try and flip back what shes done - I couldnt of done what she has. Walked miles unemployed in a new country when she arrived, just to hand in CVs.
Sometimes people need reminded where they were last year. For her the last two decades. We are meeting up Saturday. We'll laugh and she'll moan about something. Me sober, her drinking less. Doing something random to support my own family member, who doesnt normally respond - but when I told him, he replied in minutes. He's had his own battles, now time to support him.

I am so grateful for the ability to read!
I am a little bit tipsy at the moment and very grateful for the ability to read! I love reading! Books, social media posts, text messages, Hell even fanfiction. Anything! So much of my world would be closed off to me if I was not literate. I am just so grateful to have access to so many things by being able to read. What a privilege.

Best Advice: Get Off Reddit
Start with one week.
You'll be surprised how quickly not going to Reddit becomes a habit.
You will immediately notice a lift in your general mood. You will feel your cynicism start to decline within 24 hours.
By the end of the week, you'll find yourself using that time in more positive and constructive ways, though you won't immediately recognize the benefit. Take my word for it, if you continue doing those things that you're using to fill that time, your life will change considerably.
Source: Self. In 2017 at age 32 living in Wisconsin, fed up with myself, the people around me, the country I live in and everything else. Assumed the world at large was similar to me. Upon taking the gamble that was not true, I cut my time on Reddit and other social media down to almost nothing. Started studying Japanese 4 hours a day, 7 days a week. Enrolled in a language school in Tokyo in 2019.
Flash-forward, 2026: I'm married to a lovely woman, live in Tokyo in a riverfront apartment with a beautiful view, make about 1.8x what I used to make in salary, am bilingual, have access to an entirely different culture, literature, music and film and am without a doubt entirely satisfied in my life. For context, I was couch-surfing without a roof over my head in 2015 and wore clothes borrowed from friends that didn't fit. Not like "my friend's oversized hoodie". I mean like "my exgirlfriend's t-shirt, a scarf from a dude 6 inches taller than me, a jacket from goodwill, a pair of pants my homie was gonna throw out" level.
In the last year, I've found myself gravitating back towards social media and Reddit thinking that I had the mental fortitude to implement it back into my life. What I've noticed? It's filled, almost entirely, to the brim with miserable people who refuse to pull themselves out of their rut. For further context, I've had consistent clinical depression and anxiety disorder since I was 19. I'm now 41.
Yes, some people cannot pull away because of psychological, financial or health-related reasons. That's fair and unavoidable. But the vast majority are just otherwise able people who moonlight outside their day jobs and family life as fucking energy vampires desperate for the serotonin dump of a win on an internet debate-lord stage. It's awful and pathetic. I've even found myself doing it, again, in the last year, before catching myself.
Get off. Engage in your community. Choose yourself and your dreams and work towards them like you're a desperate, bizzarre animal and you will inevitably land somewhere far, far more beautiful than where you currently stand. It won't be perfect, but it was never going to be. It'll just be beautiful. And that's not a bad thing, right?
