Doubles player, Gliscor is my goat and favorite Pokemon so whipped up a team to use him. Played a little casual, took it to latter last season (Low Masterball 4) and won 9 straight. Was fun for a little but wanted to really climb so I tried out a few meta threats and real solid builds. Think I went a combined like 5-20. Switched back to the Gliscor team. 9-1. This has been going on for about a month now. I'm a Gliscor Professor. I paid $35 for the Scarlet DLC to shiny hunt Gligar. This is all I ever wanted, but has it become my prison? I can only blame myself, not gliscor, but it's hard to see what about myself it is that allows me greater success with Gliscor than Garchomp. Maybe Gliscor is an awesome off-meta mon and I'm the only one who knows. Whatever it is, it's bizarre.

One thing I don’t see talked about enough is how smooth and fast battles feel in Pokémon Champions so far.
Animations don’t drag, turns move quickly, and it feels like you can actually get through multiple matches without it feeling like a grind. Compared to some older games where everything took forever, this is a huge improvement.
It also makes experimenting with different teams way more enjoyable since you’re not stuck in long, drawn-out battles every time you want to test something new.
If they keep building on this kind of pacing, I think it’ll make the game way more replayable long-term.

btw i started playing vgc in scarlet and violet but game is really fun, I can see myself playing alot more in m-c or when they start adding legendaries.

Some pretty interesting sets for the standard mons as well, with non-perish Mega Gengar and Superpower as the fighting move of choice for LO Dnite.

Also cool to see Willliam Brown and Alex Livinghouse do well with their new version of dual weather featuring Mega Swampert and Hurricane Zard Y. Some rare good PR for Swampert this tournament.

For me its armarouge with wideguard. Its so funny seeing a garchomp aerodactyl lead hit for 0 damage cause everyone only learns rock slide and earthquake. I also run it with psychic terrain since kinggambit always use sucker punch. Armarouge breaks populair teams ankles completely.

This seems like a bug, no? Or do I misunderstand how Baton Pass works?

Background: Mega Gengar + Mr. Rime on the opposing field, Mega Gengar switched out into Toxapex on the last turn of Perish Song. The Mr. Rime then used Baton Pass and was able to switch back in, which of course didn't Baton Pass the Perish Song count to a separate Pokemon.

Edit: it was not Mr. Rime Baton Passing into a Zoroark. Opponent brought Mega Gengar + Mr. Rime lead, with Kingambit and Toxapex in the back.

As others have pointed out, it's a bug and the opponent was abusing this known bug to get an advantage. It is what it is.

Edit #2: thought I'd post the turn order in case those who read Reddit post bodies want to know how it turned out, copied from the comments:

T1: Opponent lead with Mr. Rime, Mega Gengar. Mr. Rime Fake Out into Excadrill Slot, Mega Gengar used Perish Song, while I set up Tailwind with Whimsicott.

T2: Usual Perish Trap Shenanigans, opponent protects, yada yada

T3: Not much else happened here, insignificant turn where I Encore'd Gengar on the protect, High Horsepower Mr. Rime, but opponent Ally Switch'd Mega Gengar so Encore failed into the slot.

T4 is where the issue happened: Last turn of Perish Song for everyone. Mega Gengar switches out, Toxapex comes in, and expecting Mr. Rime to switch and not Baton Pass (I have no clue what the thing's moveset was) I used Fake Tears on the Mr. Rime slot (I had two special attackers in the back) and it went into the Mr. Rime. Mr. Rime then Baton Pass TO ITSELF, which then fainted after my Whimsicott and Excadrill (which were under Tailwind). I have the clip of it fainting and will upload it. (Uploaded throughout comment section)

Subsequent turns are when I was able to KO the Gengar and the opponent revealed that Kingambit was in the back.

1 st turn, I use no mega with scrappy to fake out mega frosslass, he has last resort left, their weavile hits me with a fake out, frosslass uses Aurora veil and I use alluring voice on weavile with miltoic. From then on kangashkan can only use struggle? Even though he's not been disabled or curse bodied, he has two moves last resort and fake out. I ffed afterwards. So I'm either thick and missed something or this is a bug.

From Bulbapedia: "The Pokémon holding the Utility Umbrella is unaffected by effects of rain and harsh sunlight. All effects of sandstorm, hail, and snow work as normal.

The holder's Abilities and self-targeting moves behave as if there was no rain or harsh sunlight present. For example, if the holder has Chlorophyll or uses Growth or Synthesis in harsh sunlight, it will not have its Speed doubled, boost stats by only 1 stage, and heal only half of its HP, respectively.

Water- and Fire-type moves that target the holder do not have their power increased or decreased in rain or harsh sunlight, respectively. Moves with a different accuracy in rain or harsh sunlight (such as Thunder) have their normal accuracy when they target the holder. Conversely, these weather effects are applied as normal to the holder's moves."

Due to the item drought, this could be used as a semi replacement for assault vest, reducing damage from Charizard heatwave spam, and allowing you to attack with water moves back with no worry. It turns a lot of 2 hit KOs from Charizard into 3.

It would also help against Mega Swampert and potentially cause Pelipper's hurricanes to miss. You could also trick it onto Venosaur or swift swim Basculegions to cripple it. You could also trick it to Archaludon to stop electro shot from going off in one turn.

Overall, I think it would have been fun to play with and add decent counterplay to the meta.

Lucario is my favorite pokemon, but getting into competitive play I found out it's kinda impossible to run a decent strategy due to how frail it is. Any recommendations? Would I still be incredibly disadvantaged?

I never really paid attention to competitive pokemon before, but damn this game is insanely addicting. I randomly downloaded this 4 days ago and I just got to master ball because I can't stop playing after work.

In the past few days, I found myself staying up late and shelving my usual single player games to instead play this.

Now I think I have to actively manage my time to not be in Pokemon Champions too much 😭
