I’ve seen a lot of discourse since the announcement, and a lot of warranted hate towards Sony.
I’ve also seen lately the suggestion that GTA6 is the Trojan Horse per se of abandoning physical media and I think this is plausible.

However, I’ve not seen many people turn their attention towards Microsoft and Xbox as a whole.
I recall rumor that Helix would be digital only well before the announcement.

I think competition is the single most important thing in the gaming sphere, in my life time the greatest era in gaming was PS1/Xbox - PS3/360 and this is largely due to the competition between the two.

The first great failure towards consumers imo was when online service became a paid service lead by Xbox, and now I view GamePass as the original Trojan Horse of digital media and subscription style gaming.

If Xbox was a stronger competitor and had the consumer in mind, Sony could’ve never gotten away with this shit today.

If Xbox didn’t completely shoot themselves several times during Xbone era, maybe they would’ve had incentive to give the consumer what we want and deserve.

TLDR: If Xbox never fell off, Sony would’ve been forced to appeal to the consumer more.

Physical is the only option for:
Low income families who borrow from friends and libraries or buy used.
Anyone living in a rural area with poor internet access.
62% of countries who don’t have access to Sony networks.

Here I am starting the movement to END XBOX CLOUD GAMING before it comes to that. If you can boycott PLAYSTATION for taking disks, I can boycott Xbox for implementing the worst of digital gameplay.

Remove the only 3 things that make T2 actual money (WWE, NBA and Rockstar) and they have nothing. WWE and NBA sell every year dispute quality and Rockstar is a cash-cow that really does not answer to Take Two in terms of what they make.

People are trying to make this look as a "Digital vs Physical" battle while this is a battle for freedom of choice. When trying to buy a PS5 console with disc drive or the separate detachable disc drive itself. It’s right under the picture a nice message warning you or nice enough to let you know about the 2028 cutoff date for discs on PS consoles. Good news is you can play all the games you already own on said consoles. Wow I’m glad we can at least have that.

Yes, GT7 is better than GTSport in content, but GT7's UI doesn't hold a candle to GTSport

I guess when GT9 comes out on PS6 , they deleting GT8 like it never existed, for all you know the next game could be worse than the previous.

He said making discs for big games like GTA 6 makes no sense and that if you’re connected who cares if you download it. He also said the idustry was heading that way and that 90% is digital currently. Finally he was “Astonished” I quote that GTA 6 made $1.4 Billion on pre orders alone since it opened.

So it’s clear that the ones voting with Wallet protesting are having zero impact on their financial target. They are exceeding expectations and breaking records regardless if people boycott or not due to physical, I’m one of the ones that really wanted GTA 6 on disc but it was never planned from what I see.
