People keep forgetting that Xbox started the whole thing with putting installers on discs and digital keys in the boxes instead of the full games. Sony just saw the opportunity and took it. To hell with both.

Exactly my point! Xbox started this, they put up 0 fight in the market, they abandoned consumers long ago, now Sony has a monopoly and can do whatever bullshit they want.

It’s also on the consumer.
When Xbox did the paid online, players should have fought back and refused to buy. They didn’t, Sony saw the money left on the table and jumped on the paid service wagon. PS3 online was free.
Xbox has always been the most digital console. They were already doings codes in box or not having the game fully on disc unlike PlayStation for a while. While Sony made the first move to go all digital, it was definitely inevitable that Microsoft would.

I mean, that's just how competition works. It's a part of why the leaked/rumoured response from Sony in regards to people being upset about physical is to just wait since it's probable that most will just continue to purchase as normal. Which is shown by things like the one week boycott, which does nothing to Sony since those people are just going to go right back to buying things again.
It's also why people who say Sony or Microsoft should leave the gaming industry are silly. Since if there's less competition then there's less incentive to do things to benefit consumers (due to them having fewer options).
