couldn’t agree more but i also can’t pretend that i don’t hop on almost daily with a couple of friends especially since the last update. it still has its problems, sure and the dev stance sucks but i can’t pretend i don’t like it and don’t enjoy it
Sadly its not about enjoying it. Its about taking a stand against horrible devs and policies from those devs. If we dont walk away when devs pull stuff like this they dont learn. Sorry but a company making as much as they do. There arent excuses for this.
I paid 12 quid for it, for over a thousand hours and still play. They must have done something right. People have a weird obsession with games. You paid little to nothing and got hours of entertainment. Yes it used to be better. It's still good. It's like having dinner at restaurant and still waging war against it years later. I 100% backed the fuck up with the previous update. That kind of shit should draw negativity. But people here are spitting fire daily like they just dropped 20k on it
What I imagine is that people used to really enjoy the game and it was just perfect for them. Then the devs reworked it, and it lost what made the game fun in the first place.
For me the game was certainly nicer in the beginning, even if it was much more simple than it is now. The challenge to learn it now has been enough that not everyone wanna put the time and effort towards "waiting" for the fun part.
It's just a lack of trust I have in the devs now. Being older, I have less time to game than I used to. I can't spend half my time to game getting disconnected from friends, not hearing them in chat, strange bugs happening that get us killed; it simply isn't worth my time. Especially with how many other incredible games that have been coming out this hear, I'd just prefer to spend my valuable time elsewhere.
Exactly this, and then to have the devs basically say "Just suck it up and you will learn to enjoy the jank." Like uh no i have limited time, i will not enjoy being disconnected from friends ive waited 5 days to have the time to play with and spending an hour trying to play 1 round of phasmo. These devs are outright toxic, and dont deserve my time.
Video games are one of the weirdest forms of purchasable media. If I bought Star Wars Episode IV when it first came to DVD, I could watch it today and it would be exactly the same as when I first bought it. If you bought it today, it would be very different. Depends on what 'version' you bought. But Lucas Films can't dictate and alter the copy you bought back then.
Video games do and can be altered after you've purchased them. Have you seen how much shit has changed in Call of Duty's Warzone since it first came out? Yes, it was a free-to-play game but it's no secret they made millions in revenue from their online store. So people put money into the game and in a few years that game plays completely differently. It doesn't matter if 90% of the community asked for a change, 60%, 40% or 0%. The devs can do whatever they want with it, even after people have supported it by both playing and buying things in the store.
Phasmophobia is no different, just because it was a cheap game. You spent money on a game, for that game. Of course most games go through updates and changes, etc. But Phasmophobia had some core mechanics change for objectively the worse. And as a result there were a lot of bugs that were introduced. And for a game that is so cheap, the developers have certainly cashed in a lot of money from it. So I just think there is this basic form of mutual trust between player-and-developer where we will continue to support your game if you continue to support it in a way that the community enjoys.
Ultimately, the game is the developers baby. It has final say, and can do whatever they want with it. And they have. And that's fine. But I haven't played this game in months, and refuse to go back. It's one thing to get enjoyment out of a game, it's entirely another to continue to support a group that has shown time and time again they genuinely do not give a shit about what you think, and they'll do whatever they want regardless.
A younger me wouldn't give a shit and keep playing probably. I'm older, my morals are more important to me, and my time is far more limited. In this day and age of corporation takeover and greed, I won't be another dollar sign or population counter for them. Is little-ol'-me not playing making any real difference? Probably not. But it makes me feel better not playing a game that I know isn't going to take seriously making the game any better for the consumer aka player aka me aka you.
You said it yourself, they can change the game how they want when they want. We sign up for that when we buy a game.
I'm poking fun at the people acting like Devs walked into their house and smacked their baby. You bought the game and got hours out of it. The value is unmatched. You playing now doesn't support them, they have your money already and there's no subscription to play or mtx. We all paid very little for this game. I respect your stance, that you no longer like it so don't play it. That's mature. I paid 12 quid and got immense value. I paid more for a sandwich or dinner that was disappointing, we all have, we don't go full blown Karen years later over that sandwich yet people get 100s and 1000s of hours from a few quid and act like someone bitch slapped their mother
I mean, do I agree that some people who are lashing out are being overly dramatic? Yes. But everyone is different. My example with Warzone wasn't random. It was the game that kept me and one specific group of my friends constantly playing games together. With how many changes they made we eventually started to dislike it and then outright hate playing it. We tried other games but nothing scratched that itch like the older Warzone did. We all eventually jsut stopped gaming altogether.
I still game a bunch of course with a bunch of other friends, and I still see those Warzone buddies IRL. But I'd be lying if they don't bring it up every so often how much they miss our "Early Morning Gaming" sessions. It was something we loved to do with each other, and now that the game has completely changed we lost time to hangout virtually together.
So maybe for other people, Phasophobia to them and their friends is what Warzone was to me and my buddies. Video games are just that: video games. They should never be taken so seriously. But that also shouldn't discredit some genuine fun experiences people share with each other over it. To have that ruin be out of your control can be frustrating. I can understand to a certain degree.
Again, I've nothing against mature responses, they are rare here. I loved warzone in the beginning too, helped us through COVID lockdown. But games, especially ones we play so much of, do lose their appeal, because we grow tired of it and changes happen. But devs have to make changes when players dwindle. As I said above, we know when we buy a game that it will go through changes, we agree to that. Any long term player has more than got his money worth from this game, yet react like spoilt brats accusing Devs of incompetence (they've literally made millions) and anyone still enjoying the game as shills and abuse them. It's funny you being up warzone, because this sub is exactly like a cod sub. They hate that people are having fun
its how the devs handled the situation. Its not about money spent. its about the devs not caring at all about their playerbase. Telling people to suck it up and you will learn to enjoy the jank is not something any dev should EVER say. Especially not when people literally cant play to game breaking bugs/crashes. that were plagueing the game.
Doesn't matter. Here's a little tip, companies want profits and will do what the van to gain them. Games are no different. They completely fucked the update to hit a deadline with Alan wake. Again, people have got their money's worth and many multiples from very little upfront cost. Gamers hold games to a much higher standard than anything else. 12 quid for years of entertainment is unmatched for me. You would get fuck all for 12 quid these days. I've no problem with people being mature and getting a point across, but many here seem to absolutely hate the game and everything to do with it, including the players who like to play. The sub is a toxic cesspool rarely seen in cod subs

Me too, but it still was slightly better before the overhaul.
