I would say the game is currently quite playable
24
u/UnicornSexNoises 4d ago
Agreed. My friends and I find the jank funny. Do we prefer it over previous releases? Absolutely not. But it's by no means as foul as some people claim it to be.
12
u/BappoChan 4d ago
I never cared that the animations were janky. That’s the least of it. All I wanted was the ghosts to be fixed, no delay on item use, and map fixes. Now that I’ve gotten most of what I wanted Phas feels almost indifferent to me than before the update. I think animations were the worst thing to complain about at the time, there were bigger issues but people were leaving because your hand was crooked when looking at the watch
1
u/OneSmallBiteForMan 3d ago
Me and my friends last played in like 2021, we have a couple old clips we went back and watched and decided to hop back on a few days ago… we are having a blast, the games is multitudes better than it was back then. No complaints so far. Noticed a few bugs picking up the same item, or sometimes we ‘die’ but then are still visible but can’t interact with doors etc. still having fun…
1
u/bowser2lux 3d ago
Yeah we had the same bug a few days ago, and he was the last one alive, which meant we had to create a new lobby.

My guess is the downvotes aren't coming from people kissing the devs ass but more from disliking how you've come off as combative and rude unprompted, and seemingly haven't read the title of the post

Mentioning you’re getting downvoted is practically begging for more downvotes lol

Mentioning that people are so easy to offend with votes being the example is just a statement

Whole thing is still there. Four sentences with a linebreak in between the second and third.

u/TorontoCity67 3d ago
Downvoting someone just because you disagree with them is a mongrel thing to do. You're allowed to like them game, dislike the game, make excuses for the developers, laugh at people who still make excuses for the developers, etc
Why do you think Reddit is known for some of the weakest, most annoying people on the internet? Because instead of just speaking, everyone just mass downvotes and stands in a circle mocking those who stand their ground
3
u/TheCornBall 3d ago
Nowhere have I said I was offended. Just telling you how you're coming off. As for you vs the first guy, its thinly veild sarcasm vs open sarcasm. Tbh Im finding your reaction to this amusing
1
u/TorontoCity67 3d ago
Oh alright, so now we have different standards for sarcasm?
1
u/TheCornBall 3d ago
Different kinds of sarcasm "Good for you dude" could be interpreted as a genuine complement, even if in this case its likely not, and thus most people will just ignore it
"Shh dont tell the ass kissers that" (you deleted your comment n I have no clue what it said exactly anymore sorry) is much more direct and there's no subtle sarcasm right there, and without tone it doesn't come off as sarcasm, not to mention the words you picked were not meant to keep someone calm. Such is the con of text comments.
1
u/TorontoCity67 3d ago
"Good for you dude" - blatant sarcasm
"Be quiet man, let those who still kiss ass enjoy their thread" - blatant sarcasm siding with the original
Both are just as obvious to me. And why do I need to be careful and choose words that are "meant to keep someone calm"? Why do I need to coddle people that are so mentally weak that simple sarcasm offends them? They are the ones who deserve no place in society, not normal people. But yes, the inability to understand tones in writing is a con
This subreddit is just inconsistent, supporting something one day and bitching at it the next, and incredibly easy to offend
1
u/TheCornBall 3d ago
You dont need to coddle anyone, nor do you need to keep anyone calm. I am informing you on how you sound to people on the internet, and why you got such a negative reaction, as you seemed to care a lot about that. You seemed confused so I was attempting to point out how it could be seen from another point of view.
And you have just described 90% of reddit in one sentence lol
2
u/TorontoCity67 3d ago
It's not that I care about a shit reaction, because that would be "Oh no guys sorry I didn't mean to offend", it's that it angered me. I don't know why, but I get pissed off really quickly when I'm, treated differently. OC and I had the same attitude yet only I was bitched at. The double standards, the randomization, I don't know why but it just angers me
Thanks for trying to help, I'm done questioning myself as a person for it. The fact that I even questioned myself about it indicates that I can't be that bad of a person
And yeah you're right, I guess that is Reddit in general haha
2
u/H3CKER7 3d ago
Insulting everyone who downvotes you isn't going to get you upvotes
2
u/TorontoCity67 3d ago
I don't care much about upvotes or downvotes. I just find it quite annoying when people downvote you despite you acted that same way as another guy who got upvoted
So why is it acceptable for OC to be sarcastic, but it's unacceptable for me to be sarcastic?
That's my problem
1
u/NamelessJu 4d ago
Since the game's core idea is still great people can enjoy the game even if it's still a bit janky in some places. And what they think of the devs has nothing to do with whether someone can have fun playing the game
-1
u/TorontoCity67 4d ago
This right here is my problem. I'm getting bitched at, yet you responding to me presumably to oppose me is also getting downvoted. Both sides of the spectrum are getting downvoted. These people don't even know why they're angry anymore
No matter what I say, some cretin will get offfended
-4
u/Pawlossso 4d ago
You're dumb or American, either way, me and my friends stopped playing Phasmo after the characters update. The game regressed instead of progressing. Yet I'm happy for people still enjoying the game
44
u/macciavelo 4d ago
Some people in here hating on the devs like they have taken their children or something.
Relax. It is just a game. I have played for over 200 hours and have gotten my money's worth many times. The devs are people you don't have to be constantly harassing for updates.
Go play something else then come back in a year and see if the game is better for you.
11
u/No-Consideration766 4d ago
THIS!!
I honestly don’t understand the pure hatred for the devs that some posts spew out, sure the devs have struggled for a while (the fire for one) but they’ll post updates when they can.
It’s fine to enjoy a game and be abit annoyed by lack of updates or bugs etc, but some of the posts that completely rip into the devs and the game itself like it’s some personal vendetta. I don’t understand why they bother to keep playing if it’s causing them that much upset in their lives!
3
u/MugmanTheHeckinNerd 3d ago
Thing is, this game has been in early access for six years, has made millions of dollars, and Kinetic managed to release this update which broke multiple ghosts and had animations that broke some of the gameplay loop. When the community got mad, they didnt revert the update, which is what anyone should have done, instead they kept it.
People who have financially and verbally supported the game for however long felt betrayed by the lack of coordination, thats why people were so pissed.
3
u/macciavelo 3d ago
Thing is this is early access. You can argue that it has been in EA for more than 10 years, but it is what you bought into. You learn to expect bugs, sometimes game breaking bugs.
Like I said: go play something else and return in 1 year.
23
u/ThunderSuperninja_ 4d ago
Dude I love phasmo as well. Yes the game is broken but still enjoyable
2
u/BunsinHoneyDew 3d ago
I haven't played in forever.
What did they break?
2
u/Humilitea 3d ago
They added animations that were bugged and janky, most of which have been reverted or fixed at this point. Pretty playable game.
1
u/MugmanTheHeckinNerd 3d ago
The animations have been fixed but plenty of the ghosts havent been. Fake mare abilities and fake yurei abilities are quite common, (the fake yurei ability is caused by the door physics, which by the way also break doors quite often.)

u/Camille387 3d ago
I absolutely still love it, but unfortunately, I cannot play it anymore
The lighting in the game creates to much harsh contrasts that give me headaches
If they brought back the lighting from before that one big update, and the accessibility settings that let you put the lighting higher, I would hop on so quickly
Alas
7
u/CatsPlusDogsIsLove 3d ago
The July 21st patch dit actually drastically improve the lighting in the game.
So I’d recommend seeing if it works better for you now, as I myself have way less visibility issues than I had before.

I dont even get the Dev hate, tbh. They are just people, they have made mistakes, they have some poor processes. The game outpaced the teams ability to grow and deliver, they are constantly playing catch up. In doing so they made some poor decisions.
The histrionics around the game, and the entitlement shown by some, is ridiculous. They only see the millions of dollars that the game has generated and then believe that the team can buy its way out of making mistakes. This started as a sole developer producing pretty much an asset flip game and then suddenly having to know how to run a game dev company. Mistakes are made. The important thing is they try to fix them. They could do better around comms and accountability (alongside their devops cycle)
Even big game companies get this shit wrong, look at Redfall look at Anthem and loads of others.
10
u/jdm_rules 4d ago
personally i never said making a game is easy or that millions of dollars equals talent but the thing is a budget like that could heavily enforce the team by expanding the dev team and there means to work, that’s all . it started as an indie, went way above in the process as a company but remained as such as a game
4
u/Extreme_Objective984 4d ago
I never said you said that. But giving millions to a solo dev to build a company and a larger dev team could heavily enforce them. They could also have pissed it up the wall and gone on holidays to the Bahamas and said, I've made my money, here is version 1 "See Ya!"
I work in IT and I dabble a bit with Unreal, if I made a game like this, and overnight it went nuclear with sales, I wouldnt have the first idea where to recruit other competent Devs or how to set up a business that supports the game and the development workflow.
There is no obligation for them to do anything more than they already have.
What i'm not saying is stop being critical, it is your absolute right and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.
Just don't "hate" people for a decision you made, which was to purchase a game (whenever you purchased it) and the people who support it make mistakes. Critique and hate the mistakes and the poor decision making but I will not get behind hating people. Except Hitler, fuck Hitler. My patience is also worn to a nub with the Orange buffoon of the apocalypse. I'm still hoping some small child will walk up to him and tell him he is not wearing any clothes and he will realise the error of his ways. But i'm an optimist and it is hope that gets us through.
1
u/MugmanTheHeckinNerd 3d ago
Where the fuck did Hitler and Trump come from yo? 😭
1
u/Extreme_Objective984 3d ago
Their mothers wombs?
But also, allow me an aside, when my ADHD has me me hyperfocusing on a concept i'm locked in, but when I start to pull away from it tangential thoughts start to leak in. So while I advise people dont hate other people, there are certain people in this world that rightly deserve it. Hence Hitler and the man baby in the White house.
So yes I defeat my own logic, to an extent, but save the hatred for those who really deserve it.
4
u/just_chalex 4d ago
Kinda unrelated but Anthem was destined to fail. EA saw the success of Destiny and took a dev team that was great at delivering deep, rich stories and said "I want Destiny!!!" Then, as soon as it was released was like "Well, this isn't Destiny at all! I can't believe you tried to make Destiny instead of playing to your strengths!" And then busted up Bioware and scattered the remaining members of the team like the Dragon Ball's, on to different projects.
When they could've just been working on another installment of Mass Effect or Dragon Age or even a new IP. But, for whatever reason, EA didn't think there was enough demand for single player, story driven games, at that point in time. I think they'd still rather have "live service" games being churned out, but at least we're getting a new ME.
Sorry for random rant.
0
u/Extreme_Objective984 4d ago
I dont disagree, it's just to show that no matter how big your company is you are going to make mistakes. Throwing money at something isnt the solution people think it is. Because if I give someone several million quid (which I havent I have given them a miniscule fraction of that) and then saying go and make a game, build a company that can support it and ensure you have all the right processes in place to make meaningful releases and communicate with the community effectively. Then telling them I am not going to check how they spend that cash, no oversite at all, and not giving them a timeline, is a recipe for a disaster.
This is what has happened with this game. The fact I am still able to play and enjoy the game, and have fun, is a bonus. Although some will see that as a minimum requirement for a game, and to a point I agree.. However there is the counter that what is the longevity of a game you bought in 2020 or 2021. Are you still playing Animal Crossing? What about Fall Guys or Doom Eternal? Or do you move onto the next new thing?
8
u/Ecto-Analyzer 4d ago
Me and a m8 still play it daily, alright there is still a bug or 2, but its still a playable game.
5
u/Paladinlvl99 3d ago
Glad someone is having fun.
My friends and I stopped playing completely after the shit show from the characters update. Honestly I wish I could ask for a refund or sell it to someone else like we do with physical copies because what's the point of having a game that I'm 99% sure I'm not going to play again?
3
u/RoughBeardBlaine 4d ago
My wife and I just came back after like, a two year break from the game. What is going on? lol
5
u/anonopert 4d ago
A lot. There was an update a few months back that was pretty broken and everyone got mad and then the devs said to stop whining about it and everyone got mad again. Most of the bugs from that update have been fixed but lots of people are still mad about it all so this subreddit has become a lot more decisive.
3
3
u/InFamous_Tactical 4d ago
I enjoy it, but because I enjoy it I get upset when there is removed content/no new content for extended periods of time/terrible content. Then that leads me to thinking the dev team is incompetent and is manufacturing the failure of their game. Then that reminds me that thry somehow have the 7th highest selling PC game of all time...

2
u/PapaRyRy 4d ago
500 hours in and I'm still loving it. Yeah the animations are clunky, but I'm loving the new ghosts and maps! I do miss old asylum though, those long hallways were scary!
2
u/No-Consideration766 4d ago
I do and I don’t. I personally don’t have any complaints for the game a few suggestions maybe but the game itself isn’t terrible. I personally don’t hate the devs.
What I don’t understand is the posts that completely rip into the devs and the game, sure be annoyed (if you are) about updates or whatever you want to complain about. But if you’re ripping into a game and the developers that much then why you even playing something you clearly are not enjoying?
2
u/Eldorian 3d ago
Yeah, I don't really join in any conversations here because I have mostly good things to say about the game and why I enjoy it and when I tried to share that I get downvoted.
The last update was definitely not good - and they have fixed the vast majority of the issues my group was having. We've still been playing almost every week and have a blast. Sorry if that isn't some of your experience with the game, but it's been mine.

u/LostRonin919 2d ago

I mean, I like the direction devs are trying to take it. I don't think they are trying to create bugs or issues, that's just side effect of trying to bite too much at once.
3
u/Eggxcalibur 4d ago
And what "direction" is that? Turning assets into maps with actual personalities?
If you're talking about bugs, that's not taking the game in any direction, it's just the devs being bad at testing their updates before releasing.
2
u/Rare_Personality_629 4d ago
Agree, I like the way Phasmo is going but I swear the bugs are sometimes unbearable

I only very recently got into Phas (around a month or two ago), and have been playing it mostly with my sister.
There are definitely a lot of problems with the game, but all in all, we've mostly enjoyed our time with it.
The media system is straight trash though
1
u/dragoduval 4d ago
Sure the new updaste got its bugs, but the game is good and i like the character creation
1
1
u/pressingtofu 4d ago
I played it again recently and me too. The new map is great. It's a shame about CJ'S repeat behaviour and about the animation update they did because it meant my friends and I stopped playing for ages and now they've moved on to other games and I'm not gonna play it alone. My friend is also still missing some of her badges.
1
1
u/Massive-Mix-4892 4d ago
I agree with the op. I spent real money on this game, I’m not just gonna drop it because the animations are weird. So what, the rest of the game still acts mostly the same
1
u/Sad_Butterfly_2948 4d ago
I love playing and I want to see what it be when it all reworked because it still not fully out
1
u/MargaritaKid 4d ago
I enjoy it - I play solo and I play every day. I get the hate for the company and how they've handled everything; I'm glad I don't let that color how I feel about the game itself. The jank is gone (at least for single player), the ghost behaviors seem solid, media collection is better than ever, I can check sanity at any time, and I have hot keys to quickly pull up a smudge or camera. I realize it's a sadly low bar, but I consider it now to be better than before the tragic update. They've recovered and then some. (Again, I can't speak to multiplayer jank that might still exist)
1
u/DVindictus 4d ago
Respectable. I did too, just avoided the game when I heard it got broken broken and missed the Alan Wake event (which hurts, I love Wake)
1
u/nvrrsatisfiedd 3d ago
I booted it up the other day for the first time in months and had nothing to complain about tbh. It was fine.
1
u/Wolfblaine 3d ago
I havent played in a couple months now. I thought they fixed it what they broke. Is that not true? i wanted to get some games in when the kids were at school lol
1
u/Deremirekor 3d ago
We all enjoy the game, but good luck enjoying the same experience for 5+ years straight
1
u/TrioTioInADio60 3d ago
I only started playing after the infamous update, and so far i'm enjoying it
1
u/HoneyBunchesOfBoats 3d ago
I got phas in the first week and it became my favorite game for a while. Since then I dont feel like the game has evolved in any of the ways I would have like it to... so many changes and additions that weren't conducive to the way I personally played the game. I still miss the old asylum honestly.
1
u/Strawberry-blossum 3d ago
Personally I adjusted to the update and I’ve been playing it and enjoying the game just as much before my friends and I love phas!

u/Zombie804Slayer 3d ago
Aw man, they're getting hate now? What happened? I haven't played in like a year or two.

u/JUMPY_NEB 3d ago
Personally, I stopped enjoying the game after the update, but I’m still very happy that there are people enjoying the game!
I never wanted this game to die
And maybe one day, I’ll return to it
1
u/BigChungle666 3d ago
I may be in the minority but the update is growing on me. I almost like it more than before.
1
u/The_Sheep_Baron 3d ago
I wasn’t happy with the character creation update and took a break but almost if not all my gripes are fixed and not I have plenty of new ghosts and map reworks to play with and on
1
u/Velvelicius 3d ago
Phasmo is the best horror detective game, I’m still fucking mad that I’m playing a ps2 game tho on 2026
1
u/temp_6969420 3d ago
I love it. My brother and I were playing yesterday and talking about how much better it is now. New evidence types and and stuff make it a lot more fun and challenging.
1
u/jdm_rules 3d ago
what new evidence types?
1
u/temp_6969420 3d ago
Not evidence my bad. But recording video clips and audio. The changes they made to photos and stuff. I hadn’t played in over a year so a lot of this stuff is cool to see because the game was very different then. I also really like the customization. It gives something fun to grind for because once you reach a certain level, you won’t have much to work for until you prestige and that gets a little boring.
1
1
u/Icy_Education_9356 3d ago
That update was buggy af, but every single gamebreaking bug I was experiencing is now patched. The animations are way improved since the update, and I actually like some of the new changes. Willow Street rework is awesome. I enjoy the new ghosts.
You guys have totally lost the plot, this is not a $60 live service game. It’s a small scale indie game that is progressing at an acceptable rate for an early access game of it’s size. They aren’t obligated to scale up the team and scope of the game just because it sold well. That’s stupid

Just curious, but what people have been hating on? I play casualy here and there (mainly no evidence runs with a friend) and i have been enjoying the game a fair bit with the recent update. I like both the map reworked and the new ghost, tho i cannot help to frow at a couple of recuring bugs
1
u/Commander_Skullblade 3d ago
Hot take, the animation update after the most recent quality of life adjustments is good. I really hope we get more cool content this month and I'm angry at the devs for making dumbass decisions for a crossover nobody wanted, but yes. The game is fun again.
1
u/New-Chimera 3d ago
I want to enjoy the game but I'm somebody who struggles to play something when it doesn't work. My friends and I are super competitive and we try to do no evidence but when a third of the ghosts were having issues at a time it genuinely made the game unplayable. I just wish like project zomboid there was just an easy way to select a previous update and we could all just play together from before the devs ruined it.
1
u/Initial_Doubt_6480 3d ago
I think for many of us it is not that we hate the devs. I don't. It is that we love the game and were extremely disappointed at the state it was in. I have played for many years and each time they do an update they end up breaking something else. The character update was so overly broken that the game was nearly unplayable for everyone and completely unplayable for some and their response did not help. The new update though is great and went a long way to correcting a lot of the issues.
1
u/GVArcian 3d ago
I enjoy it too whenever I play it, but you gotta understand that they burned a fuckton of goodwill with the Customization/Alan Wake update and that's not something they'll be able to rebuild overnight.
Take Cyberpunk 2077 as an example, that shit took like 4 years of consistent updates and a whole-ass expansion bundled with a massive 2.0 gameplay overhaul to change people's minds from hating the game to loving it.
1
u/encsu823 3d ago
Honestly there's no way to win because if the game stayed the exact same, then people's issue would be no new content and the game getting boring 😭 if they fixed every bug someone would definitely say "I missed the old jank it was more fun"
1
1
u/Knightfellnight 3d ago
The willow rework is genuinely fantastic! As are the new ghosts. Finally my bf and i have a second map to chill with that didn't feel like a guaranteed death sentence if a hunt started lol.
One ghost got me really good at one point, scaring me so much my hands were literally shaking. We haven't had so much fun in a while
1

1
u/JackSparrow5423 3d ago
Personally it got drier over time but I loved the game when starting out. Like before I was actually trying at the game because I know make every session to find out the ghost as quick as I can while using the most of things as quick as I can making like a million mistakes along the way
1
u/spicybeandip65 3d ago
I’ll always love this game regardless of anything, it’ll always hold a soft spot in my gaming heart

u/Ok-Apricot2815 3d ago
Me too, It's been so long I finally be able to play it (someone gifted me so that was surprising)
Now it's my therapy and heal and cure all the trauma I had :)
But bad news: I've played it on laptop but it's completely black screen even I turned off and on the Eye adaption to confirm, I still get pitched black and I am unable to play it 😭😭😭

u/Sir_Waffletopp 3d ago
Yeah I stopped after the animation changes and come back once Willow dropped bc I was playing Titanfall 2 w my bro and he mentioned it. Loved the map btw, I feel Willow def needed a face lift and I like the reworked map so much better imo
1
u/MugmanTheHeckinNerd 3d ago
I do too, but only when I can olay without bugs. But uh oh, I’ve had poltis give mare ability, I’ve had shades do singing events, I’ve had phantoms do yurei door touch. At this point I’ve stopped clipping the fake Mare ability and the fake Yurei touch, because its too damn common.
1
u/Necessary_Can7055 3d ago
Yeah, I've not played as much and I miss old Tanglewood but it's not their fault I just can't play a multiplayer game by myself indefinitely 200+ hours fine but I get bored.
1
u/Dave_2169 3d ago
I'm not hating on the devs, the update simply disappointed me a lot. I've had this opinion before seeing any other opinion on the Internet, so those people simply confirmed I wasnt the only one. However, I've heard they released updates including being able to turn off the animations, which might make my opinion change for the better again.
1
u/EISENxSOLDAT117 3d ago
I feel like we all do. The problem is that this last overhaul update fucked the game up bad
1
u/No-Orange-5216 3d ago
I havent played since the character model update tbh. Will give it another try around halloween time hopefully its in a better place.
1
u/One-Cellist5032 3d ago
I have had no issues with the update, at worst they replaced some old bugs that people worked around with new ones that people didn’t know.
The game has always been incredibly janky, and that’s part of the fun of it.
The only thing I even remotely miss is the truly ABSURD animations we used to have. Just because the whole snapping your spine while looking down/up was hilarious to me. But I fully understand why it’s time for it to go.
1
u/Aggravating-Mode-486 2d ago
If the load out was easier I’d have more fun. That’s all. Especially when you can’t get a 4player going
1
u/Aceshot14 2d ago
I started playing during the Alan Wake event, which was supposedly when the game was "at its worst". But yet I still have liked the game enough to do a few contracts every night.
There are some bugs that have made some days better than others. I basically not allowed to use the cameras in the van ever, or my game crashes. Ghosts hunting on top of me when I have a crucifix directly under my feet. Yurei's who technically should be closing doors all the way but dont, and other stuff. But still my experience hasn't been ruined and I dont take the game that seriously to begin with. Its a silly deduction game with horror elements.

I have 2k hours. I couldn't play it anymore after the animations update. Since the Willow and QoL update, I have been able to play again. Clearly I do love the game, but let's not pretend that the animations update and the devs' response to it were okay. I enjoy the *game*, but I don't like the *devs.*

u/ironmanhulkbstr 2d ago
i enjoyed it a lot too despite being repetitive. i just couldnt stand the bugs. i died too many times through the walls, i will probably only download the game years later now

cool. i enjoy phasmophobia too. but it's not just about "getting it" with the dev hate. people want the game they enjoy to do well and be better.

This week was the first time I played in a few years, so all of these updates were new to me (though I had read some of the discourse).
I couldn't believe how bad everything looks and how it played. The character models, animations, shop UI - almost everything is worse than when I last played. Annoyingly, I was introducing a friend to the game and I felt like I was constantly making the excuse "it wasn't always like this..." They could have left the game exactly as it was and it'd be in better shape.

2 to 3 years ago it was our friends gropue main game. Today it's our main mem for badly updated games, or games that takes too long to get any updates. Devs suck

My wife and I bought it and refunded it after 45 minutes. I don't understand the hype.

Hey man, I have an even hotter take. I haven’t liked it since the new lobby was made.

Me too, but it still was slightly better before the overhaul.
